Global Energy Management & Sales (GEMS) is one of the business units of ENGIE. Its mission is to provide a comprehensive range of services related to energy and risk management, to other business units within ENGIE (notably renewable or flexible energy generation assets), as well as to third party clients (e.g. banks, investment funds, utilities, large industrials, B2B customers, …). Within GEMS, the Commercial Expertise Center (Commercial EC) has the global oversight role supporting the Business Platforms to ensure the highest quality of products, provide a consistent global overview of client commercial performance, create transversality, share expertise and common practices, and assure that GEMS keeps focused on clients and counterparts needs.

Through its organisation, GEMS is able to cover most of the key geographical markets. Within GEMS’ Business Unit, GEM UK manages assets and product portfolios related to power, gas, and emissions in the UK markets, actively supporting the country’s ambitious path to a net zero economy.

In light of recent structural changes, GEMS UK has initiated an ambitious project to expand its UK platform. As part of the growth plans, GEMs UK wishes to hire an Originator to focus on the growth and development of the UK origination market.

 

The UK Originator will be assigned a set of personal objectives including quantitative business development ones, defined and monitored at Business Platform level, and commercial qualitative objectives set and evaluated by the Commercial EC.

 

Key Objectives

  • To develop GEMS UK trading activities by originating high value power, gas, and environmental attributes transactions in the UK market
  •  To expand GEMS UK origination franchise through deal making activities on upstream and downstream renewable PPAs, structured gas and power transactions, and flexible assets including utility scale batteries (BESS)
  •  To contribute to the maximization of the value of the asset portfolio of GEMS UK, including renewables, transport, storage, and contract flexibility
  •  To generate commercial margins and provide a significant contribution to the profitability targets of the business unit
  •  To develop and secure incremental revenue streams from client origination transactions
  •  To find new value opportunities on gas and power assets in changing energy markets
  •  To increase Engie Group expertise and recognition in Energy Management and the Energy Transition area

Responsibilities

  •  Entertain commercial relationship with a portfolio of counterparts with the goal to increase the occurrence of deal making and the profitability of credit lines
  •  Contribute to the expansion of the gas and power structured transaction business on top of GEM UK existing portfolio and capabilities
  •  Work with traders and originators in the team in order to develop, innovate, and define new gas and power products and services in line with customer’s needs, exploring and leveraging new areas of value
  •  Actively contribute to define the growth strategy around renewables, asset management and trading portfolio flexibility products including utility-scale batteries (BESS)
  •  Achieve or exceed Origination P&L targets established by the business unit
  •  New business development (innovation and enforcement)
  • Management of counterparty portfolio
  •  Behaviour within regulation and compliance rules

Key Requirements

 

  •  Solid experience  in a senior portfolio management activity and/or senior structured origination function in the European gas and/or power business
  •  Demonstrated experience in negotiating and transacting gas and power structured products including gas flexibility products, virtual power plants, renewable upstream and downstream PPAs, and BESS structures
  •  Specific knowledge of UK gas and power markets, and environmental attributes
  •  Well connected with various gas and power counterparts (industrials, utilities, banks, trading houses, etc)
  •  Structuring, Sales and Negotiation skills
  •  Analytical and quantitative skills
  •  Good understanding of the drivers of gas and power markets (price, market design, asset characteristics, players)
  •  Ability to work well as part of a team of traders and originators
  • Commercial orientation, Negotiating and communication
  •  Creativity, Structuring
  • Deal making: decision maker, solutions finder, driven by results
  •  Team player (excellent social skills and ability to operate in a demanding environment)

Objective

 

The Senior Technical Project Manager Thermal Projects (STPM TP) leads the technical development of large power projects in Asia, Middle East and Africa region (AMEA). The STPM TP will focus on greenfield gas power projects (OCGT and CCGT) and PPA gas power extensions projects. He may from time to time also be involved in Hydrogen and Battery Energy Storage projects.

The TPM TP reports to the Head of Engineering and Technical Support, Africa, Middle-East and Asia (AMEA).

 

Job responsibility

  • Contributes to project technical definition at an early development stage.
  • Manages the selection of technologies, configuration analysis, production estimates, availability, outages, and evaluation of innovative technology solutions.
  • Manages/Reviews all project related studies during bidding/development phase till hand-over to execution: pre-feasibility studies (if any), feasibility studies (if any), ESIA studies…
  • Leads the qualification, selection and management of technical consultants: Bid Technical Advisor, Owners’ Engineer, Lenders’ Technical Advisors, ESIA Consultant…
  • Leads the technical development and documentation of the contractual agreements during development/bidding and negotiation stage: EPC, PPA, electricity connection agreement, LTPRA, LTSA, O&M Contracts etc...
  • Manages the technical mark up and proposed deviations (if any) of bidding documents.
  • Contributes to the technical qualification of EPC Contractors
  • Manages the main equipment supplier’s selection with the EPC contractor.
  • Animates and manages several technical review meetings with the EPC contractor to optimize the plant design.
  • Proposes and defines technical-commercial optimizations with the contractor(s).
  • Prepares the technical related part of the project execution and operation.
  • Prepares all Construction technical and O&M related documents for the proposal/bid: EPC Term sheet and/or EPC Contract, O&M Term Sheet and/or contract, OM organization chart, including Guarantees and testing procedures, O&M philosophy...
  • Develops and manages the full O&M budget
  • Liaises with the lenders and the Lender's Engineer for the establishment of their due diligence report prior to Financial Close.
  • Manages internal approval process (for Bid submission including Construction, Technical and O&M) until Financial Close.
  • Support the negotiations with the contractors.
  • Punctually provides support to construction and operation activities.
  • Prepares the technical hand-over for execution stage.
  • Ensures experience capitalization and REX integration.
  • Performs Technology watch.
  • Frequent travels.

 

 

Qualification/Experience

 

  • Engineering degree, with a minimum of 15 years of experience.
  • Experience in projects technical development.
  • Experience in bid preparation.
  • Experience in thermal gas projects (preferably CCGT).
  • Experience in using Thermoflow software. 
  • Experience in preparing and negotiating contractual documents: WPA, PPA, PWPA, EPC, EPCM, subcontractors, O&M, LTSA, LTPRA, consultants’ contracts...
  • Experienced in interfacing with BD team, legal team, finance team, construction team, operation team.
  • Experience in battery energy storage system, hydrogen, desalination or solar is a plus.
  • Experience within ENGIE Group is a plus.
  • Organized, rigorous, ability to step back.
  • Inter-functional, intercultural and interpersonal facilitation skills.
  • Ability to listen, lead and convince in a non-hierarchical position.
  • High negotiation capability maintaining a balance between assertiveness and flexibility.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Languages: fluent English. Arab or French is a plus.

Technische opvolging:

  • Je stelt de installatie (transformatoren, turbines, elektrische borden etc) veilig ter voorbereiding van onderhoudswerken.

What You Can Expect

As the Regional Operations Director, US Renewable Generation you will provide management direction to ENGIE North America (ENGIE NA) renewable generation projects. In this role, you will be responsible for management and oversight of assets, including responsibility to ensure safety, superior operational performance, profitability, contract compliance, decision making and problem solving, regulatory compliance, legal interface, guidance and direction to Regional and Site Managers, and monitoring plant activities. You will actively promote a safety-minded working environment and safety programs consistent with the ENGIE NA Health and Safety Principle and ENGIE’s global governance initiatives. On a daily basis you will set objectives for the team in alignment with ENGIE NA strategic plan and maintains a record of their performance through regular evaluations and make recommendations for merit increases and incentive pay. Every day you will monitor the day-to-day operation, maintenance, fiscal, and administrative functions of each operating facility.

 

The Regional Operations Director will optimize plant technical performance through enhancements, upgrades and modifications to physical site equipment. You are expected to improve plant financial performance through modifications to contracts, reflecting changes in market design or operating philosophy as well as apply emerging trends to add value to existing and future ENGIE NA projects. You are responsible for the oversight and direction of plant compliance with company policies and procedures, governmental regulations, Power Purchase contract compliance, operations and maintenance agreements, annual operating plans, and good engineering practices at each facility.

 

  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within boundaries of company policy and procedures
  • Supporting the VP Field Operations in the hiring, termination, and pay schedules for ENGIE NA operating facilities
  • Recommend the hiring, termination, and pay schedules for Regional and Site Mangers positions for approval by the VP Field Operations and COO at ENGIE NA
  • Prepare and submit for review and approval annual and long term strategic plans, budgets and periodic reports for ENGIE NA managed facilities
  • Direct lender-required technical and budget review programs.
  • Identify and direct professional development of subordinates, including identifying needs and supporting plans
  • Comply with all ENGIE NA policies and procedures
  • Interface with commercial organization to enhance communications, outage decision making, dispatch decisions, metric utilization, and plant capability to maximize economic performance and/or optimize the sale of energy output from the facilities
  • Oversee the management of a portfolio of power generation facilities as an independent power producer operating in regulated, merchant, and PPA environments

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • High school diploma/technical degree or equivalent education where you gain knowledge and or experience with leadership, management, communication, organizational, operational and prioritization skills
  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience with demonstrated leadership and management of staff
  • Working knowledge with Development, Operations, Maintenance, Dispatch and Optimization of Wind and Solar Assets
  • In-depth knowledge of battery storage, wind and solar power generating facilities, equipment and technologies
  • Proficiency with personal computer applications, in particular, operational and financial modeling and budgeting

As the on-site Wind Technician II, at the Century Oak Wind Project in Cisco, TXyou will report to the Operations and Maintenance office to meet the Site Operations Manager to receive work orders and discuss project details. Adaptability is crucial as tasks may vary depending on operational needs and requirements. Your primary responsibilities involve troubleshooting, repairing, reconnecting, and inspecting electrical equipment, including substations and overall site performance.  At this site you will be working with high voltage energized equipment and must follow all safety procedures including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) grounding and other safety precautions. Collaborating with service providers and contractors, you will oversee daily work activities, produce various reports, operate site equipment, and coordinate with local utilities and Independent System Operators (ISOs) for switching and curtailments.

 

Ensuring compliance with ENGIE and regulatory agency standards, you'll conduct inspections and recurring checks on site equipment. You'll actively participate in behavior-based safety programs, enforce safety procedures, and conduct orientations and meetings to promote a safe working environment. Alongside routine inspections and serving as the main contact for landowners, you'll manage spare parts inventory, coordinate contractor work, and maintain cleanliness on-site.

 

Gaining and maintaining GWO training is required, as well as participating in turbine climbing activities. You'll provide recommendations for operational and maintenance improvements, offer equipment operation training, and utilize Root Cause Failure Analysis techniques to address failures. You will work on computerized work order systems for purchase requisitions and receiving statuses.  From time to time you will be required to support other wind assets during planned outages and emergencies, potentially requiring overnight stays. Furthermore, you'll be part of an on-call rotation and must reside within 50 miles of the site to respond promptly to outages and emergencies.

Your managerial role extends to leading a team comprising one technician.
