About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join our team at Condate Biogas in South Molton, Devon. This role involves working alongside the Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager to ensure plant uptime and efficiency. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive electrical maintenance of the anaerobic digestion facility, including installing and maintaining electrical components such as generators, inverters, and control systems.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical components, including generators, inverters, and control systems.
  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance of the plant, including working on pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, pipework, and electrical equipment.
  • Diagnosing and resolving electrical issues and system failures.
  • Conducting routine inspections to identify and rectify potential issues.
  • Stocktaking of electrical spares and equipment, ensuring all items are recorded and accounted for on the company systems.
  • Collaborating with other team members and contractors to ensure adherence to health and safety protocols and efficient operations.
  • Keeping accurate records of all maintenance activities.
  • Assisting in other mechanical or operational areas as required, including driving a telehandler.

 

Knowledge and Skills/Experience:

  • Extensive electrical experience in an industrial or renewable energy sector, or previous experience in a continuous process environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and components.
  • Proven ability to interpret and understand wiring diagrams and drawings.
  • Proven experience with fault finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in completing spreadsheets and reports.
  • Good numerical, analytical, and diagnostic skills.

 

Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering (e.g., apprenticeship, City & Guilds/NVQ/HNC/HND).
  • Full UK driving licence.

2. BACKGROUND

The position is key to support ENGIE’s businesses within South Africa, in the context of existing key businesses and strong growth ambitions. ENGIE is involved in the development and operation of renewable assets (onshore wind, solar PV, and concentrated solar power), and flexibility assets (OCGTs, Renewable Hydrogen and Battery Energy Storage).

 

 

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

ENGIE’s presence in South Africa is already strong and is set to grow. To grow the business means that the company needs a strong government relations manager to steer and navigate an integrated stakeholder approach aligned to the business focus, delivery and ambitions.

 

The purpose of the Regulatory and Public Affairs Manager role is to develop and lead the integrated strategic approach of government relations for ENGIE South Africa. This position aims to (1) understand key business stakes, then establish and represent the company’s position, as well as (2) monitor and explain relevant regulatory matters within the company (businesses in South Africa and corporate). To succeed, the incumbent will affect collaboration with relevant authorities in the South Africa to review and help frame policy decisions, navigate regulatory frameworks, and foster strong relationships with key stakeholders. The person in the role will also liaise and coordinate with a network of experts within the Group, in particular the Public Affairs Department, which reports to the Group General Secretary. He or she will be involved in existing networks for exchanges between the heads of public and regulatory affairs in the Group's various geographies. The role will comply with all applicable laws and ENGIE’s Ethical rules and policies.

 

Government and Regulatory Body Engagement:

  • Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with government agencies, policymakers, and regulatory bodies at various levels to investigate, understand and help frame policy formulation, and encourage regulatory environments that accelerate the energy transition towards a carbon neutral economy.
  • Represent ENGIE South Africa in industry forums, advocating for ENGIE’s businesses across South Africa.

Policy Analysis and Stakeholder Insights:

  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret legislative changes, regulatory trends, and policy developments affecting ENGIE’s businesses.
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior management based on in-depth policy analysis, anticipating potential impacts on business operations. Prepare position papers on key topics.

Government Relations and Advocacy:

  • Interpret national policy changes and developments to inform business strategy.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive government affairs strategy to enhance ENGIE’s reputation and visibility in the energy transition space, linked to the group and country strategy.
  • Communicate and advocate for the ENGIE strategy in South Africa.  
  • Leverage the local, national, and group mechanisms to bolster government advocacy and relations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to effectively communicate the company's vision, initiatives, and contributions to sustainable energy solutions.
  • Drive advocacy campaigns, leveraging thought leadership and partnerships with communications to improve public understanding of and support for energy transition initiatives.
  • Ensure company-wide understanding of the political and regulatory environment and support cross-functional teams.
  • Provide a comprehensive view of the ENGIE South Africa stakeholder landscape for the leadership team.
  • When needed, arrange key meetings with ENGIE stakeholders and key government stakeholders.
  • Manage the relationship with key foreign government stakeholders and agencies on behalf of ENGIE.

Risk Management and Compliance Alignment:

  • Assess regulatory risks, based on political developments and coordinate proactive measures to mitigate potential impacts on business operations and project timelines.
  • Implement systems and processes for ongoing regulatory monitoring, reporting, and compliance assurance, with legal.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Foster collaboration across departments including legal, finance, operations, communications, ESG and business development and GBUs to align public and regulatory strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Collaborate between the broader Regulatory and Public Affairs team within the group and other countries to adopt the best practice and bolster the South African approach.

ESG Collaboration and Support:

  • Provide strategic support to the ESG team, in incorporating relevant regulatory changes the overall ESG strategy and approach for ENGIE South Africa.
  • Support the ESG team in their engagement with local government stakeholders.
  • Contributing to societal reporting, managing stakeholder relations, and integrating government stakeholder criteria into investment decision-making.

5. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Business Administration, Environmental Studies, Law, Public Policy or NQF equivalent. A master degree is highly desirable.

Language

  • Fluent in English (verbal and written skills)
  • Other languages would be a benefit
  • Excellent writing, spelling, editing and proofreading skills

 

Experience and Qualifications Required:

The job holder will have:

  • Proven experience (typically around 8-10 years) in government relations, stakeholder management, regulatory affairs, public policy, or a related field within the energy sector or a closely aligned industry, including work at a strategic level.

Purpose of the Job: 

RENEWABLE GASES EUROPE (RGE) is ENGIE’s business entity responsible for the development of renewable and low carbon gases1 production in Europe. Since 2015, ENGIE has been developing biomethane production activity. At the beginning of 2023, its portfolio includes 26 plants in operation, of which 19 are self-operated, with a total production capacity of 550 GWh/y @100% and a development pipeline of 1.4 TWh/y. 

ENGIE is determined to become a leading player in 1G2 biomethane in Europe. The ambition is to grow rapidly to reach 10 TWh/y of biomethane production capacity by 2030. 

In Europe, outside France, biomethane production projects are already under development in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Italy. Spain, Portugal and Romania are other countries of interest. The strategy is to develop projects, greenfield and through M&A, to inject biomethane into the gas grid or to produce bioLNG.  

Under the responsibility of the Head of Engineering, the Engineering Manager reports functionally to the Engineering Director. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

The Engineering Manager has two main roles: 

  • They are the main interface between RGE engineering team and projects’ engineering contractors. 
  • They supervise and manage engineering contractors during the project lifetime, 
  • They ensure the production of engineering deliverables follows RGE standards and are produced on time according to the project schedule, and on budget. 
  • They review, comments (and/or coordinates reviews/comments within RGE engineering team), contractors’ design deliverables, he controls the contractor’s document quality. 
  • They support the construction team during construction as main technical interface between RGE construction team and the engineering contractor 
  • They ensure capitalization of lessons learned and continuous improvement of engineering standards and practices 
  • They are responsible for prefeasibility studies and diagnostics for upgrades and retrofit projects 
  • They collect the list of existing engineering document and identify missing information/documents required to carry out the project 
  • They control or defines a list of diagnostic to be done to control site/equipment existing conditions to perform the works (electricity, underground conditions, civil, static equipment, rotating equipment, piping, instrumentation and control, safety etc 
  • If necessary, they could be in charge of proposing temporary work to maintain site activity in accordance with operation team.  
  • They define the list of engineering deliverables to be produced for the works in accordance with the RGE engineering team. 
  • They review and comment engineering deliverables. 
  • They proofread and comment supplier offers 
  • Apart from the Engineering team, the Engineering Manager will interact with, among others: 

Management of RGE 

  • RGE teams Europe: Project Management, Industrialization, Business Development, Operation, Procurement 
  • Suppliers and contractors

Qualifications & Experience:

  • M.S. degree in engineering or equivalent 
  • Relevant experience in construction site field experience.

SWPC issued a Conditional Award to Engie for the Jubail 3B SWRO Project.  The plant is a fully contracted IWP producing 125 MIDD of potable water on coast of Persian Gulf, including a 570 000 m3 potable water storage facility and 59 km 380 kV transmission lines and substation.  Engie will construct a highly efficient and low carbon footprint plant design that fully utilizes the latest RO technology.

 

The Jubail 3B SWRO project is part of a major investment in additional SWRO facilities in KSA and is a major part of the expansion and diversification of the Kingdom.  The project site is located approx. 20Km South from the industrial city of Jubail, which has modern facilities. ENGIE operates various IPPs and IWPPs in this part of the kingdom, as Marafiq plant at 30 km and Fadhili Cogeneration plant at 70 km.

 

It is expected the CEO will be based in the Eastern Province of KSA.   It is also expected that there will be regular travel within KSA and occasional travel to Dubai or elsewhere in GCC.   The location may allow a commuting with Bahrain, under certain conditions and subject to further discussions.

 

Objective

 

The CEO is responsible for:

 

  • Managing the Company including personnel recruitment, procedures and facilities in agreement with the Board of Directors and the long-term business plan.
  • Representing the Company and conduct relationships of the Company with the authorities, regulatory agencies, lenders, banks and professional organizations.
  • Following up proper execution of the commercial and financial contracts and bringing in solutions to any argument or problem that may arise, in coordination with the Board of Directors.
  • Arranging that necessary permits and consents are obtained and maintained.
  • Making sure that the Company is made aware of applicable changes in law and regulations.
  • Promote a safe company culture.

As a Chief Operating Officer of Energy Solutions (ES), you are responsible for the effective implementation and continuous improvement of all processes related to the execution of contractual commitments across all activities within Spain. In this role, you ensure operational excellence by defining standards, industrializing processes, and establishing efficiency plans. GOVERNANCE AND REPORTING LINES  

- You report to the Managing Director of ES Spain, with dotted line to the Chief Operations Officer of Energy Solutions GBU 

- You oversee 5 domains (some of them in collaboration with corporate teams): Health & Safety, Operational Excellence, Plan Efficiencies and Cost Savings, Process improvement and Transformation Plan. 

 

MAIN MISSIONS 

1. Steer Health and Safety ambitions, regarding both personnel (internal and contractors) and industrial safety. 

2. Define ES GBU Management System (manual, processes, reference documents).  

3. Effectively implement all relevant GBU standard processes, KPIs and digital tools and applications in the fields of engineering and construction, asset management (maintenance, energy performance), labor and field service management, energy management and procurement.  

4. Measure operational performance by activity, benchmark and propose improvement actions and report to the General Management and the Operations Line. 

5. Set objectives, support, control and assess the action of the 5 lines under your scope for ES related topics (H&S, Operational Excellence, Plan Efficiencies and Cost Savings, Process improvement and Transformation Plan). 

6. Lead the operations related topics within the QBR Operations deck, attend to the QBR and comment main KPI, challenges and zooms on key projects / programs.  

7. As a member of the development and investment committees, secure the instruction of H&S, design & build future operations aspects of each project and contribute to the decision. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS  

- You have relevant experience in the energy and/or services business as well as people intensive business type with at least 10 years in a senior operational management function (P&L). Experience in an international Group is a strong advantage.  

- You have a university degree or equivalent in management, engineering or applied economics  

- Ability to work in complex and matrix organization.  

- Ability to perform in uncertain environments and lead multiple and potentially contradictory priorities.  

- You have been successful in developing activities, creating trust with clients (industrial as well as public authorities), and with operational transformations. 

- You are pragmatic, people oriented and have strong personal leadership.

Job  Purpose/Mission 

ENGIE Energy Access (EEA) is looking for an experienced and mission-driven leader to for our operations in Benin. You should be hungry to make an ambitious pitch for a scaled and sustainable model for our successful solar home system (SHS) and nascent mini-grid products in the Benin market. You have the skills and passion to take an already high-performing team to new heights, and to solidify our market-leader status as we break into new verticals and optimize our business model over the coming years.

As the Country Director in Benin, you are ultimately accountable in country for all aspects of EEA Benin’s work including SHS and mini-grids. You will own the opportunity of leading and growing a high-performing team of over 200 (including a young and vibrant leadership team) and further scaling and diversifying our business by building out the operations for optimal geographical coverage of Benin, consolidating and leading our mini-grid business, developing government relationships, and ensuring the business’s long-term strategic and financial sustainability.

 

Responsibilities:
Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Develop and implement the multi-year strategic vision and annual country business plan, aligned to the overall EEA strategic plan for both Solar Home Systems and Mini-grids.
  • Drive business model innovations/evolutions that result in improved customer engagement, better repayment, and reduced bad debt for both SHS and mini-grid businesses.
  • Iterate and create a country-centric business model that has the ability to acquire hundreds of thousands of customers on an annual basis while driving to YoY profitability growth.
  • Gather insights to inform scalable, profitable, and sustainable commercialization strategies in subsequent years.
  • Participate in business development projects by contributing all necessary data and validating assumptions.

  • Provide oversight in financial management matters of the country operations, ensuring compliance with the overall company’s procedures and external best practice as well as donor and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and effectively execute the country resource allocation plan, using insights and a focus on opportunities, priorities, and capabilities for business growth.
  • Monitor cash flow to ensure effective cash management.
  • Oversee all operations in Benin including construction of mini-grid sites, development of SHS distribution networks, inventory management, etc. to ensure successful completion of projects, protect health and safety, and reduce loss.   
  • Monitor operational risks through the management of a comprehensive risk framework to assess risks and devise risk mitigation plans.

  • Champion and maintain a culture of Health, Safety, and Security compliance, ensuring accountability throughout the organization for the safety of our staff and contractors.
