Context:
The Expertise Center Global Market Analysis (GMA) and the Business Platform Power Trading Origination & Structuring PTSO are looking for a leader of the Power Regulation and Market Design team (PRMD).
He/She will report to the leader of the EC GMA and to the leader of the BP PTSO.
The electricity system has been drastically changing over the last years: more and more intermittent renewable generation, new market players, evolving role of system operators… At the same time, the European electricity markets are integrating at a fast pace, driven by European legislative initiatives. Achieving a European, truly efficient electricity market is a real challenge and covers the correct implementation of Market Network Codes, existing and new electricity regulations and directives. The recent energy crisis also illustrated the importance of having a sound electricity market design, which will allow market players to deliver the renewable and low-carbon investments needed to achieve the decarbonization targets and consumers to benefit from these investments while actively participating in the market.
The Power Regulation and Market Design team, within the EC GMA, manages the European regulation of the electricity markets, as well as GHG related regulations, impacting GEMS activities and, in particular, the asset portfolio optimization, the trading activities, the downstream activities and the decarbonization strategies. The Power Regulation team is responsible for establishing the GEMS position, champion it internally and externally, and persuade external stakeholders in order to promote optimal market functioning.
Role:
As head of Regulation & Market design, you are active over the entire regulatory chain with your team: analyze new/updated regulatory texts; propose positions as well as lobby plans towards GEMS management and ENGIE Regulatory Community; you effectively implement agreed lobby actions (e.g. via participation in relevant working groups/associations and meetings with stakeholders); etc.
The PRMD team covers upcoming (decided or considered) changes to the electricity market design; compliance to the current market rules is not part of the RMD team, but situated elsewhere in the organization.
The PRMD leader is accountable for the work of the team. He/she develops a roadmap based on business needs and priorities. He/she oversees people development, objective setting and performance review.
The leader will work closely with gases RMD advisors and market analysts of the EC GMA to assess the impact of different regulations or market design on the markets and Engie business.
The RMD team is a small team, working with trust, collaboration and team spirit. Each advisor is working in full transparency and close cooperation with other members, but also with other regulatory teams across Engie organization. Flexibility is a key asset to quickly onboard new elements or priorities and support fellow team members in ongoing files.
