About the role

The purpose of the role is to develop, negotiate and implement contracts to purchase electricity and gas exported to the Grid by generators, together with embedded benefits and any associated green certificates.

 

ENGIE are recruiting for an Energy and Renewables Originator based in Leeds. This is a Permanent role, working full time Monday to Friday. On offer is a competitive salary, bonus and benefits package.


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the delivery of budget export margins on an individual basis within the Power Purchase team; sign New Business and renew existing business.

  • Business Development – Establish contact and build relationship with potential new business partners including banks, financiers, consultants, lawyers or direct customers.
  • Account Management - maintain and develop relationships with existing customers. Organise and attend events and meetings.
  • Build Portfolio – Origination of Power, Gas and Renewable Certificates. Propose PPA deals to internal stakeholders to attain sanction according to internal processes. Follow internal governance (including writing investment proposals) and present proposals to UK and European board level.
  • Contract Development and Legal Review - Liaise with ENGIE Legal department to tailor customer-specific contracts and review existing terms and conditions to maintain ENGIE’s commercial interests.
  • Investment Appraisal – build financial models to forecast expected margins and spend levels for proposed contracts.
  • Process Improvement – Ensure internal processes are efficient and fit for purpose.
  • Product Development - Provide intelligence for and assist the Product Development Team in researching and developing a range of market-leading Export Products, PPAs and Corporate PPAs.
  • Risk Management – Adhere to, and assist with the creation of, Risk Policy. Adherence to internal processes and risk frameworks.

Key Requirements

  • Experience in Sales and/or deal negotiation
  • Experience in Energy industry · Experience of contract development
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a complex environment
  • Degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, preferable
  • Ability to negotiate complex long-term contracts, often within multiparty scenarios.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of UK Energy wholesale and Retail markets.
  • Excellent knowledge of all applicable current and future legislation impacting the renewable energy market.
  • Appreciation of key drivers and contract requirements for renewable generation developers, lawyers, banks and equity investors.
  • Ability to identify and reconcile business and customer needs in order to build bespoke products and develop current PPA product suit
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to present high value contract opportunities to the Senior Management team.

What You Can Expect

As a Senior Quantitative Analyst, you will report to Head of Asset Portfolio Management & Structuring, you will leverage ENGIE’s large-scale Renewable and Battery Storage Portfolio to commercialize industry-leading Clean Power Product structures. You will play a pivotal role in developing next-generation models and strategies to facilitate first-of-a-kind market products. Working within the Renewable and Battery Storage Portfolio Management Team, you will apply knowledge of both traditional and exotic market products, coupled with a quantitative approach to modeling risk, that supports new transactions.

 

You will develop, maintain, and standardize models utilized to assess future value and risk associated with transactions conducted with the intent to maximize ENGIE portfolio value and minimize risk. You will utilize understanding of power markets, risk, renewables, and battery storage to formulate strategies by which to manage future risk introduced by new transactions and/or changing market conditions. Example functions include:

 

  • Developing statistical models that value current and future renewable and battery storage generation sold to downstream large energy consumers
  • Structuring exotic commercial products tailored to client’s sustainability needs and within desired risk limits
  • Standardized hedging and trading strategies intended to mitigate risk associated with complex bundled energy products
  • Pricing customized renewable off-take deals

 

In support of the aforementioned functions, you should also be able to assist in developing, maintaining, and streamlining fundamental and statistical models to assess market risk in Texas (ERCOT), Mid-Continent (SPP & MISO) , and Eastern (PJM) Power Markets. Example activities include:

 

  • Developing models to price bundled energy products in power markets
  • Establishing a fundamentally-backed perspective on future capacity and congestion markets across Wholesale Power Markets
  • Perform fundamental analysis in both Power and Gas Markets to understand the dynamics in demand, supply and infrastructure

 

You are also expected to support traders and originators during negotiations. Supporting responsibilities include:

 

  • Providing updates to pricing upon request, providing supplemental analysis and assisting in the negotiations of structured transactions
  • Proposing risk management strategies for the existing ENGIE portfolio with the intent of maximizing portfolio value and minimizing risk

 

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor of Science in which you completed coursed in Engineering/Math/Physics/Economics/Finance/Statistics or other related disciplines
  • 5 years’ experience in related field
  • Strong background in probability and statistics, with comprehensive understanding risk
  • Ability to develop code-based models (python preferred) with understanding of cloud hosted environments (GCS, AWS, Azure) an added benefit
  • Knowledge in US Natural Gas and Power Markets. In-depth understanding of structured energy commodity transactions, particularly in the renewable energy
  • Ability to interpret complexity in contracts, tariffs, regulations, market rules.
  • Ability to grasp the concepts of power plant operations and understand their implication in commercial transactions. Role will have a heavy focus on renewables and battery technology
  • Ability to convey and communicate findings in a clear and concise manner
  • Entrepreneurial and self-motivated spirit with creative and inquisitive mindset.

Compensation

Salary Range: $86,100 – $132,020 USD annually

We are seeking a proficient Debt Recoveries Associate to oversee the collection of overdue payments in accordance with both internal and external legal procedures.  The job holder will work to deliver a seamless and efficient process for all stakeholders involved.  

 

This is a Hybrid role assigned to our Leeds office where the successful candidate would be based two days a week.  On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package and the chance to make a difference in the energy transition.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with customers to either collect full payment, or establish a payment plan in line with internal procedures. 
  • Efficiently move accounts through the disconnections process using our ‘Blackthorne’ platform
  • Collaborate with internal and external agents to reduce aged debt and ensure smooth operations.
  • Prepare and monitor payment plan requests, manage the warrant process, and handle all necessary paperwork in line with internal processes.
  • Ensure disconnection notes are added to tickets and manage warrants on day of disconnection.

Context:

 

The Expertise Center Global Market Analysis (GMA) is looking for a Senior Expert Power Market Analyst.

He/She will report to the leader of market analysis for mid term power markets.

The market analyst teams develop consistent market views (gas, power, oil, emissions, weather) to explain market moves and forecast future evolution ; build and run forecasting & simulation models ; propose, enhance and follow trading strategies ; pro-actively seek innovative solutions to improve sales, traders and business developers performance as well as to support senior managers in their decision making process ; provide market analysis reports and services to a defined set of internal and external clients ; provide strategic insights on new businesses linked to energy transition ; represent GEMS in external forum or conferences in relation with energy market knowledge, meteorology or hydrology ; producing economic and financial analysis for origination, negotiation, valuation and management of assets.

 

Role:

 

The Senior Expert Power Market Analyst will focus on the development of multi scenario fundamental power price forecast over 5 to 10 years. This project is of high importance for GEMS and Engie to improve asset & portfolio valuation, risk management and investment decision making.

He/she will work closely with the GMA Power Market Analysis teams and the Meteo Analysis team to coordinate the work and build on their expertise. He will also drive the collaboration with Engie Impact Advisory teams who contribute to the project. He/she will contribute to GMA internal fundamental modeling platform.

 

The senior expert analyst is accountable for the analysis performed by GMA teams for the asset and portfolio valuations. He/she is the point of contact with the NWE Power Cluster, Risk, AIFA and the new S&EM Portfolio entity.

 

The senior expert analyst will work closely with all market analysis leaders to share transversal activities and competences in the expertise center teams.

He/she will be in close contact with the Regulation teams in charge of defining and defending GEMS/Engie positions for future market design and regulation.

 

 

Hard skills:

  • Master degree or PhD in relevant area (engineering, mathematics, physics, etc)
  • 10 years experience in power market analysis
  • Peopleand project management competences (vision, roadmap & priorities, people development, organization, team spirit, collaboration etc)
  • In depth knowledge of energy markets
  • Strong analytical skills, programming skills (Python), ability to build models and apply data science & machine learning to operational topics
  • Experience in investment decision making and strategy, ability to translate market analyses into propositions/Strategies and to communicate them clearly

 

Soft skills:

  • Clear and effective communication both written and verbal
  • Ability to explain and convey messages about complex issues and models
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environment
  • Team spirit, Reactivity, creativity, initiative, autonomy, ability to cope with tight deadlines

 

Education and professional background:

  • Master degree or PhD in relevant area (engineering, mathematics, physics, etc)
  • 10 years experience in power market analysis

 

Languages:

Fluent in English
