Job Overview

The Credit Risk and Strategy Manager is fundamental to the successful implementation of the Customer Finance Strategy with regards to efficient execution of portfolio credit risk mitigation initiatives, credit origination oversight, projects, data analysis and its incorporation into strategic insights. The role is responsible to the formulation and execution of credit risk mitigation actions, using data analytics to provide management with strategic information relevant to credit risk management as well as providing overall supervision of the credit origination function and the management of projects within the Customer Finance space. The role reports into the EEA Zambia Head of Customer Finance, S/he will work cross-functionally with the Commercial, Operations and Product, and Global teams.

 

Job Description

 

Portfolio Management

  • Closely collaborate with the Commercial Strategy manager on delivery of common outcomes for Commercial and Customer Finance.
  • Responsible for Credit origination function to ensure efficient and effecting credit assessment activities are delivered in a manner that mitigates heightened credit risk.
  • Constant portfolio deep-dives to obtained credit risk insights in order to implement timely credit risk management interventions.
  • Supervision of Data Analytics function to ensure that credit portfolio management information for decision making is provided consistently.
  • Collaborate and support in the design, implement and review Collections campaigns aimed us ensuring collection targets are met.
  • Actively identify immediate & long-term portfolio risks and coordinate timely solution-based actions to closure.
  • Portfolio Performance dashboard design, creation, and monitoring to ensure up to date information to all key stakeholders.
  • Curate, implement & track defensive portfolio monitoring mechanisms, including early warning mechanisms and contingency plans to manage losses proactively.
  • Proposals on new indicators to help steer customer repayment behavior.

 

Projects and Data

  • Responsible for leading operational projects within and beyond CF and supporting key team members in strategic decision-making.
  • Sign off on project assignments and follow up with project team members to ensure that all project deliverables are met on time, within brief, and on budget.
  • Support project team with external negotiations where needed to drive strategic initiatives.
  • Keep stakeholders informed about status of projects and deliverables.
  • Align all Analytics & Collections strategies to Global CRMF and Country Credit policy.
  • Coordination of Credit Governance forums and information for members.
  • Oversight for the production, quality control and distribution of data and information to various stakeholders.

 

Tools and Technology

  • Champion the use of systems to aid continuous credit risk management across the business.
  • Coordinate the creation of credit portfolio information dashboards, forecasts and models.

 

Team Management

  • Supervise and oversee the work of the Credit Assessment and Customer Finance Data Analytics teams.
  • Indirectly oversee the activities of collaborating Customer Finance functions in order to maintain strategic awareness.

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum University degree in Economics, Banking, Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • 4+ years’ work credit portfolio management, data & analytics, credit support or similar, particularly in sectors like Retail financial services or any related field.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary, diverse teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with high degree of clarity in communication.
  • Proficiency in one or more local languages spoken by our customers is a big plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
  • Business acumen and commercial mind-set
  • Ability to use analytical and problem-solving skills in a customer-focused context and English.

Context:

The GEMS APAC team is based in Singapore and offers risk management solutions to both internal and external clients in the APAC region. We specialize in providing optimization, hedging, market operations, and analytics services to support our clients.

Within the Risk Expertise Center of GEMS, the Market Risk main missions are:

  • Definition and translation of risk appetite into well designed set of limits in the Risk mandates;
  • Proactive and constructive challenge of Front Office  hedging strategies ensuring we reach an optimal risk/reward ratio in line with risk appetite;
  • Review risk profile and profitability of special deals requesting an Origination Committee validation
  • Alert on limit breaches and monitor effective and timely implementation of hedging decisions including providing concrete advice for remediation

Role:

In this role, you will report to the APAC Chief Risk Officer. You will be part of the APAC Market Risk team based in Singapore to ensure that all trading activities are in line with the market risk requirements of GEMS Risk Policy and the approved limits framework:

  • Analysis of market, liquidity, model, and physical risks
  • Setting and enforcing market risk limits
  • Market risk reporting & analysis
  • Control of P&L provisions, curve marking and parameter check for commodity curves
  • Tailoring globally consistent monitoring and control processes to suit local requirements

 

The role is primarily focused on developing the market risk management framework for Green Power origination and trading, covering forward physical, short-term, spot auction and intraday balancing. Processes are fully integrated with the market risk management activities performed by the existing market risk team established in Europe, Singapore and Japan.

 

The main responsibilities are to:

  • Monitor, control commodities positions and challenge trading strategies
  • Develop market risk framework for new business activities
  • Evaluate new transactions and business lines requiring specific market risk validation
  • Prepare limit modification requests from Front Office
  • Produce risk indicators and reports across multiple ETRM systems
  • Validate curves and parameters used in the commodity valuations
  • Simulate risk consumption for hypothetical or potential transactions
  • Assess and adjust reserves to be charged against new transactions. 
  • Maintain and improve Market Risk tools and reporting templates

 

In relation to the Green Power market risk management framework development

  • Calibrate and monitor GEMS Green Power + BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) Risk Mandates and metrics
  • Prepare the Market Risk reviews of Green Power PPA or BESS Origination Committee files
  • Support the ETRM implementation for Green Power & BESS
  • Support R-GBU, such as Review of the R-GBU portfolio representation and monitor its risks

  • Experience in Green Power market risk management is a key differentiator
  • Functional knowledge of Python

Languages:

  • Excellent communication skills in English both verbal and written

ENGIE Global Energy Management and Sales (GEMS) is responsible for managing the portfolio of gas, electricity, congestion revenues rights and environmental products for ENGIE, across geographies. More recently, GEMS has extended his scope to also manage all the market risks (energy, congestion, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), ancillaries) generated by the Renewable and Battery Storage Assets owned by ENGIE North America, which includes wind farms and solar farms – the Renewable Portfolio Management team is precisely the group in charge of these activities.

 

As a Renewable Portfolio Management Senior Commercial Advisor, you will develop and deploy commercial trading and hedging strategies to maximize the profitability of renewable assets and co-located loads while managing market risks within acceptable risk limits. With a growing internal and external portfolio over 6 GW under management, this position will require strong expertise working with large utility scale assets and provide the attractive growth opportunities to lead a rapidly expanding team.

 

  • Join a team of renewable portfolio managers to manage a growing portfolio of wind and solar assets expected to reach 8GW+ of installed capacity in the coming years
  • Develop and execute a strategy for forward hedging of wind and solar assets in conjunction with the other parts of ENGIE North America which warehouse or originate electricity market risks (Battery Storage, Data Centers, Retail, Trading)
  • Model long term valuations for the co-location of renewable and battery storage assets with data centers and Power to X sites
  • Create optimized trading strategies around co-located sites to mitigate risks and maximize portfolio profitability
  • Articulate and execute hedging strategies deploying different instruments according various  risk profiles, including energy hedges, gas hedges, options, Virtuals, Point-to-Point transactions, Firm Transmission Rights, Transmission Congestion Rights, Congestion Revenue Rights (FTR/TCR/CRRs), and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) financial power transactions
  • Build and deploy strategies for Day-Ahead offers for a large portfolio of wind and solar farms
  • Develop strategies and execute trades  with our Congestion Trading team to assess congestion risks in the respective Independent System Operators (ISOs)
  • Engage ENGIE’s external partners to advance new product business initiatives
  • Analyze and discuss the commercial terms of existing and upcoming Power Purchase Agreement (PPAs), identifying the underlying risks, and proposing alternative language and/or risk mitigation strategies
  • Analyze and price option strategies designed to reduce tail-end risk exposure to market volatility and inherent asset offtake structures
  • Monitor markets trends, regulatory landscape, current risk levels and exposures, and other relevant sources of impacts

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in which you completed courses in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or any other related disciplines

What You Can Expect

As a Power Grid Modeling and Forecasting Senior Analyst in Houston, you will report to Power Congestion Trading Director, you will develop long term grid scenarios and forecast nodal price curves using production cost modeling tools.

 

  • Execute production cost models by systematically analyzing and updating the inputs as appropriate
  • Propose, prepare and execute appropriate scenario studies pertinent to the period of study and systematically analyzing the results under the guidance of the Advisor
  • Develop systematic and repeatable approach to analyze and form fundamental views with respect to macro-trends
  • Analyze and determine drivers of Day Ahead and Real Time congestion market outcomes based on macro-fundamentals (supply, demand, renewables) and micro-fundamentals (specific transmission and generation outage impacts, bids, facility limits)
  • Identify model gaps by calibrating the model results to market outcomes and determine appropriate solutions
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to the enhance fundamental trading
  • Participate in Independent System Operator (ISO) meetings as appropriate and assess commercial impacts
  • Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve relevant tools
  • Develop and maintain dispatch and flow models, communicating fundamental developments and views to stakeholders
  • Build models to track market fundamentals and regularly benchmark against actualizations

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of a four-year degree in which you completed courses  in Engineering, Business and Finance or relevant disciplines
  • Two recent years of grid planning or wholesale electricity market experience in a relevant ISO
  • A minimum five years of work experience in the energy or finance industry
  • Strong understanding of power grid optimization, powerflow shift factors, line-outage distribution factors and contingency analysis
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Clear and effective communicator
  • Willingness to engage in dialogue and debate with colleagues
  • Proficient in coding such as SQL/ Python
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy; 4 days (Monday through Thursday) working in the office  
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $86,100 – $150,675 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

What You Can Expect

As a Market Risk Analyst, under the supervision of the ENGIE Energy Marketing North America (EEMNA) Market Risk Manager, you will prepare and communicate the EEMNA's commodity position, Profit & Loss (P&L), and all the risk metrics, enforce risk mandates, and model complex structure deals.

 

You will help review, verify and explain all the official daily risk metrics such as P&L, Value at Risk (V@R), Drawdown, stress test, and Greek limits, and other risk metrics. Help review/verify/explain all the official daily risk metrics such as V@R, drawdown, stress test, Greek limits, and other risk metrics. Identify risk, help develop and monitor risk mitigation strategies. Lead the modeling efforts for structure deal valuation and risk qualification in Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM). Provide supports of market risk management services to ENGIE North America.

 

  • Help to define, implement, and enforce the Annual Risk Mandate
  • Monitor Delta/Vega position against the limit daily
  • Monitor daily: V@R, Stress test, Drawdown, Intermittency Risk etc.
  • Provide market risk services to ENGIE North America (ENA) Renewable and Supply business specified in Service Level Agreement (SLA)’s and other service agreements (position and limit monitoring)
  • Work closely with traders on hedging/trading strategies, risk monitoring, and risk reporting
  • Participate in the New Product Agreement (NPA) process to assess all the potential Front to back requirements for market risk with any new commodity, product, market, instrument, structured deal, or model
  • Support the internal and external audits related to the risk metrics and valuations of structured transactions
  • Monitor and report on the risk decreasing and risk increasing activities mandated by the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR)
  • Coordinate with other risk functions and prepare monthly EEMNA Risk Committee slides.
  • Model complex structure transactions (eg. Power Purchase Agreement - PPA and Battery Energy Storage System - BESS revenue swap) in ETRM and enhance valuation as necessary by working closely with commercial functions and other risk functions
  • Perform risk data reporting for renewable business to Chief Risk Officer (CRO), EEMNA, Local Energy Management Committee (LEMC), and Global Energy Management (GEM)
  • Work closely with renewable business unit on forecast production volume update in ETRM
  • Act as project coordinator on IT development related to market risk and structure deal modeling

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in which you completed courses in Economics applied to Finance, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A strong understanding of
    • Energy Commodity Trading Environment and Financial Market/Theory.
    • Statistics and probability theory applied to finance
    • V@R methodology such as Monte-Carlo, parametric, and historical
    • Handling/querying large datasets or databases using SQL, VBA, and POWER BI, Oracle
  • Act as a vital team member and work with all EEMNA/ENA staff and across department employees
  • Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Be self-motivated and detail-oriented

 

 

Additional Details

  • The temporary work term will be from January 2025 to December 2025, full-time or part-time work schedule working between 20 - 40 hours per week

Salary Range: $21.00 – $45.23 USD hourly
