Context:

Engie plays a major role in the UK’s green power transition both as a developer of green power projects and de risking new build third party asset. The UK governments ambitious targets to decarbonise the electricity system by the end of the decade have reinforced the importance of GEMS UK’s green power business.

The Valuation & Analysis team (V&A) is looking for a VIE in London whose mission is to support the development of GEMS UK Renewables trading desk. The successful applicant will work on a wide range of projects centred primarily around short term power markets and the delivery of over 1GW of renewable energy. By working with Trading, V&A and IS the applicant will have the opportunity to develop new and improve existing machine learning models and develop and improve renewables production forecasts.

 

Role:

 

  • Production of price and volume forecast models for power markets.
  • Backtest and calibration of trading strategies for renewable and battery assets in the GB power market.

 

Hard skills:

    • Strong data science and programming skills (python)
    • Fluent in English

    • Understanding of the energy business and power markets
    • Experience in ML and forecasting
    • Having experience on AWS is a plus

Context:

In this role, you will report to the Chief Risk Officer, APAC. You will a key member of the APAC Credit Risk team in Singapore to ensure that all trading activities are in line with the credit risk requirements of the GEMS Risk Policy and the approved limit framework:

•          Assessing credit risk and credit worthiness of APAC counterparties

•          Setting, monitoring and enforcing credit risk limits

•          Credit risk reporting & analysis

•          Tailoring globally consistent monitoring and control processes to suit local requirements

Role:

As a Credit Risk Analyst, you will report to the APAC Regional Chief Risk Officer. You will collaborate to the fulfillment of the objectives of the department and may be involved in projects spanning multiple groups across commercial functions and staff.

 

Note: This is a 1 year contract role.

 

The main responsibilities are to:

  • Assess creditworthiness of counterparties in close collaboration with Front Office and other support functions
  • Perform detailed credit analysis of counterparties and assigning internal ratings
  • Present files and credit line requests to regular Credit Risk Committees
  • Participate in counterparty relationship development with Front Office
  • Negotiate credit, collateral, and payment terms in contracts in conjunction with Legal and Front Office, including ISDAs and physical master agreements
  • Monitor credit risk indicators, exposures, limits, and utilization for a portfolio of counterparties.
  • Respond to Front Office queries about potential trade exposures and credit limits availability
  • Monitor news and credit events impacting portfolio of counterparties
  • Understand risk calculation methodology, interface with Risk Methodology team in Europe
  • Analyze major transactions and present material to GEMS and Group level committees
  • Develop credit risk frameworks and methodologies for new products and markets
  • Participate in cross-functional projects

 

Hard skills:

  • Regular production of detailed credit files and assigning internal ratings
  • Deep understanding of energy commodities markets, products, and counterparties 
  • Usage of credit analysis tools (S&P Capital IQ, Moodys, Reuters or Bloomberg)

Ce vei face:

  • Vei oferi Market access celorlate entități din cadrul GEM Power (Downstream, Green Power Desk).
  • Vei identifica oportunități de vânzare a serviciilor existente (PRE, wind management), vei negocia tarife, contracte, vei participa la integrarea clienților în cadrul operațional.
  • Vei participa la activitatea de dezvoltare a produselor noi pentru participanții la piață (CHP management, operare comercială producție, optimizare costuri dezechilibru), vei colabora cu colegii din cadrul Direcției (Green Power Desk sau CTO) pentru implementarea locală a produselor deja dezvoltate în cadrul Grupului.
  • Vei tranzacționa pe piețe conform mandatelor primite de la celelalte entități GEM Power, vei urmări respectarea termenelor și a prețurilor, vei confirma volumele tranzacționate.
  • Vei participa și vei oferi suport la tranzacționarea pe piață Intraday în România și cross-border.
  • Vei oferi suport în dezvoltarea și implementarea strategiei de achiziție de energie electrică și certificate verzi pentru portofoliul ENGIE România S.A.
  • Vei monitoriza schimbările legislative/ strategice cu impact asupra activității de contractare, în vederea identificării oportunităților și a riscurilor și vei identifica măsurile ce trebuie adoptate în vederea alinierii acestora la noul context de piață.

  • Vei răspunde de derularea în bune condiții a contractelor de energie și servicii, urmărind respectarea clauzelor contractuale și a legislației.
  • Vei răspunde de pregătirea prețurilor de tranzacționare pentru cantitățile de energie electrică ce urmează a fi achiziționate/ vândute pe piețele centralizate, respectiv pentru activitatea de import/ export.
  • Vei răspunde de transferul informațiilor tranzacțiilor efectuate pentru înregistrarea în sistemele de raportare ale Grupului.
  • Vei negocia prețuri, condiții de plată, garantare, cât și alte elemente esențiale ale contractelor în acord cu strategia companiei și mandatul acordat.
  • Vei participa la realizarea de amendamente cu privire la legislația în vigoare, cât și cea supusă consultării de către autoritatea de reglementare, precum și de alte instituții abilitate.

Experiență, calificări, cunoștințe și abilități:

  • Studii superioare finalizate cu diplomă de licență (profil tehnic sau economic);

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of the EMS FR team members.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and lead the EMS FR team on a daily basis.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies for the BtC marketer.
  • Build, maintain and improve the processes of portfolio representation and hedging
  • Monitor and explain the P&L of risk management in a continuous improvement approach and integrate its results within France Retail.
  • Analyze potential risks and propose solutions to mitigate them.
  • Collaborate with the various France Retail departments to make sourcing and hedging a competitive advantage for France Retail.
  • Contribute to the harmonization of risk management practices within the GEMS DOWNSTREAM Business Platform.
  • Ensure communication with trading desks and make sure operational processes with trading are safe
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
  • Make sure EMS FR is represented and involved in major France Retail transformation projects

Desired Profile:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in risk management, with proven expertise in the energy sector.
  • Strong technical skills in risk analysis and market finance.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy sector regulations and standards.
  • Excellent managerial and leadership abilities.

What You Can Expect

ENGIE Global Energy Management and Sales (GEMS) is responsible for managing the portfolio of gas, electricity, congestion revenues rights and environmental products for ENGIE, across geographies. More recently, GEMS has extended his scope to also manage all the market risks (energy, congestion, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), ancillaries) generated by the Renewable and Battery Storage Assets owned by ENGIE North America, which includes wind farms and solar farms – the Renewable Portfolio Management team is precisely the group in charge of these activities.

 

  • Join a team of renewable portfolio managers to manage a growing portfolio of wind and solar assets expected to reach 8GW+ of installed capacity in the coming years
  • Develop and execute a strategy for forward hedging of wind and solar assets in conjunction with the other parts of Engie North America which warehouse or originate electricity market risks (Battery Storage, Data Centers, Retail, Trading)
  • Model long term valuations for the co-location of renewable and battery storage assets with data centers and Power to X sites
  • Create optimized trading strategies around co-located sites to mitigate risks and maximize portfolio profitability
  • Articulate and execute hedging strategies deploying different instruments according various  risk profiles, including energy hedges, gas hedges, options, Virtuals, Point-to-Point transactions, Firm Transmission Rights, Transmission Congestion Rights, Congestion Revenue Rights (FTR/TCR/CRRs), and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) financial power transactions
  • Build and deploy strategies for Day-Ahead offers for a large portfolio of wind and solar farms
  • Develop strategies and execute trades  with our Congestion Trading team to assess congestion risks in the respective Independent System Operators (ISOs)
  • Analyze and discuss the commercial terms of existing and upcoming Power Purchase Agreement (PPAs), identifying the underlying risks, and proposing alternative language and/or risk mitigation strategies
  • Analyze and price option strategies designed to reduce tail-end risk exposure to market volatility and inherent asset offtake structures
  • Monitor markets trends, regulatory landscape, current risk levels and exposures, and other relevant sources of impacts
  • Articulate with Risk Group the development and improvement of the risk metrics, and the proper representation of assets and PPAs in our management systems
  • Produce monthly market analysis containing energy balances, the performance of transactions, market trends, and recommended course of action

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in which you completed courses in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or any other related disciplines
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in Competitive Power Markets
  • A minimum of 3 years of power marketing, power trading, asset management, or risk management experience
  • Experience in the market structure, transactions, and protocols of ERCOT/SPP/MISO/PJM markets
  • Excellent data handling, structuring, organizing, processing, and presenting skills (using Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Resourceful, ability to use a variety of tools (price/valuation/database/modeling), data sources, and systems; and inherent curiosity to procure and test new resources
  • Solid finance knowledge (i.e., capable of interpreting Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement and Budgets)
  • Commercial acumen with a good understanding of business principles, contracts, and relationships, including specific experience negotiating power purchase agreements and/or over the counter trades
  • Deadline driven with project management skills for cross-organizational coordination

Compensation

Salary Range: $103,950 – $ 173,250 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
