Context:
Within GEMS, the business platform Gas Assets & Developments Europe (BP GASDEVE) represents a front to back staff of 50+ people located in Paris, Bucharest, Madrid, Berlin and Zug.
Our collective mission is to “drive a growing valuable gas midstream activity into a low carbon energy world” through 4 main objectives :
- Supply Europe with the needed natural gas
- Provide flexibility to European gas and power Markets
- Develop illiquid gas markets beyond established mature markets
- Develop new gases (biomethane, hydrogen, CO2,…) needed for the energy transition and their markets in Europe
On this last point, BP GASDEVE is developing in particular a new CO2 business in Europe to manage the physical carbon dioxide molecule, by
- designing and providing new CO2 management services to industrial players and infrastructures to offtake captured carbon dioxide, transport and permanently sequestrate it,
- enabling the implementation in Europe of new physical Carbon Capture & Sequestration chains (CCS) from specific industrial basins to onshore and offshore locations
To achieve this ambitions, GASDEVE needs an CO2 Business support Intern.
Role:
Overall, the CO2 Business support Intern will be responsible for supporting the team to develop CCS chains to decarbonize industrial activities, in discussion with industrial customers, transport infrastructure developers and storage developers.
To accomplish his/her missions, the CO2 Business support Intern will have the opportunity to work with internal GEMS and ENGIE experts, as well as interact with external market players, customers and partners.
As a dedicated project, the CO2 Business support Intern may be entrusted with:
- Developing a pilot CCS chain business case for biogenic CO2 cargoes to be collected, transported and sequestered in Europe.
- Developing a tool for quick estimation of transport chain costs for transporting cryogenic CO2 by rail, based on a quick techno-economic assessment of available technologies and commercial costs.
The work entrusted to the CO2 Business support Intern may also involve the following complementary tasks in support of the GEMS Low Carbon Gas cluster:
- Prepare briefing materials for discussions with prospective customers and business partners.
- Prepare analyses and synthesis in the form of notes and presentations, to support discussions with GEMS’ management team.
- Provide regular market watch and analysis.
- Keep the customer prospection pipeline up to date as well as identify new opportunities.
- Participate actively in the work and life of the GEMS Low Carbon Gas cluster
Hard skills:
Must have:
- You have strong analytical skills, structured mindset and pay attention to details.
- You have strong communication & presentation skills, and the capacity to take a step back to simplify things with pragmatism.
- You can work and deliver documents elaborated in Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
Good to have:
- You can be proactive in understanding European and countries’ regulations, e.g. on EU ETS, CCS, carbon certificates.
- You have educational background and/or experience in the industrial sector (hard-to-abate industries), the energy sector or in the CCS sector.
- You have technical background on Fossil & Renewable Energy.
Soft skills:
Must have:
- You are well organized and diligent in on-time calendar execution, with high quality standards and the agility to inherit & prioritize urgencies.
- You have a pro-active and curious attitude, with good autonomy and an entrepreneurial mindset. You can take initiative.
- You are a team-player with the capacity to work in a multi-cultural environment, and an active listing posture.
- You are an excellent communicator in written and verbal form

- You have a strong interest in (improving) the social and environmental performance of energy related activities.
Education and professional background:
University degree in Business or in Engineering
Languages:
Fluent in written and spoken French and English. Other languages are considered as a plus.
