About the team

You will be part of the Risk Analytics team (8 people) responsible for Market & Counterparty Risk monitoring and advisory of the GEMS (Global Energy Management & Sales) Business Unit of ENGIE and its regulated entity EGM (Engie Global Markets).

As stewards of risk governance, we design and maintain robust frameworks for market risk measurement, limit setting, and control, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

 

Collaborating closely with trading desks, operating in a global environment in the fast-changing Commodity World, we foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across regions and business lines. This enhances risk awareness and decision-making with our priority objective being to uphold the integrity of GEMS & EGM risk management framework.

 

Our expertise in market risk management extends to the development, enhancement and validation of risk models, systems, and processes. We drive continuous improvement and innovation, partnering closely with Quant Risk & Front Office as well as IT teams.

Rôle

We are looking for a motivated intern to join our Market Risk team to work on market data validation as well as the development of interactive web reporting tools using Dash technology. This internship will provide hands-on experience in data analysis, anomaly detection, and web-based visualization.

 

Market Data Validation

Market data validation is the process of ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of financial and commodity market data used for risk management, pricing, and decision-making. This involves detecting anomalies, missing values, outliers, and inconsistencies in time series data, which can arise due to technical issues, data provider errors, or market disruptions. For a risk management function, validated market data is essential because inaccurate or inconsistent data can lead to incorrect risk metrics, mispricing of assets, and flawed financial decisions. Effective market data validation helps prevent erroneous risk assessments, ensures regulatory compliance, and enhances the robustness of risk models.

 

Your responsibilities

 

  • develop algorithms and use various techniques from traditional statistical methods to machine learning or signal processing techniques
  • design a systematic scoring mechanism to evaluate the quality of curve marking on a daily basis. This approach provides a transparent and data-driven method for prioritizing curve reviews, flagging potential inaccuracies, and ensuring that risk metrics are based on high-quality market data
  • Improve risk dashboards that support decision-making and enhance transparency, based on Dash. This dashboard will provide management with a visually compelling and highly interactive interface to monitor the evolution of risk metrics

 

 Hard Skills

 

  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in Dash and Pandas.
  •  Knowledge of time series analysis and anomaly detection techniques.
  • Understanding of financial markets and market data structures is a plus.

 

Soft Skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teams of diverse profiles

Education and professionnal background : 

  •  Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Finance, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field

 

Languages

  • activity in the area of ​​active participation of RES assets in balancing the power system (system services markets, energy storage services, DSR, capacity markets),
  • monitoring of ​​development of energy storage facilities (BESS) and their commercial applications,
  • concluding electricity sale/purchase transactions on the wholesale market (mainly TGE Intraday and spot market),
  • management of the electricity position, with particular emphasis on the portfolio of renewable energy sources (RES),
  • close cooperation with other departments and locally and on central Group level (Brussels, Paris),

  • regular analysis and improving the quality of forecasts in the short-term horizon,

Profile:

  • university degree, preferred fields: technical, economics, mathematics,
  • minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a similar position,
  • knowledge of electricity market mechanisms in Poland and Europe,
  • TGE broker license is considered as strong asset,
  • pragmatic, economic, and logical approach combined with problem-solving skills,
  • knowledge of the fundamentals in the power markets,
  • good knowledge of IT/IS applications and tools, especially practical ability to apply new IT solutions in portfolio management and trading,

Context: 

The Credit Energy Management Europe team is part of the Global Energy Management & Sales (GEMS) entity. The team is responsible for managing credit risks associated with energy transactions across Europe. The VIE will support the team in absorbing the workload due to the recent reorganization of the EC Risk team.

Role:

  • Assist in the management of credit risks for energy transactions.
  • Support the team in daily operations and reporting.
  • Conduct credit analysis and prepare credit reports.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure effective credit risk management.
  • Participate in meetings and provide insights on credit risk matters.

Context:

The Expertise Center Global Market Analysis (EC GMA) is responsible for delivering fundamental analysis and economic research on Energy markets to support the trading and portfolio management. At the intersection of quantitative analysis and data science, the team is composed of multidisciplinary experts combining an in-depth understanding of the Energy Markets with strong quantitative analysis skills who provide key analyses and insights in a dynamic and fast-paced trading environment.

 

Role:

The VIE position will be within the delivery center GMA, the IT team dedicated to the EC GMA. The team is responsible for various analytical tools and applications among which:

- a data management application: ingestion, storage, supervision and restitution of time series;

- an application for sharing and visualizing market data and analysis reports produced by GMA;

- an application for providing power market price forecasts and analytics.

The successful candidate will join the team as a python developer. He/she will have to ensure the corrective maintenance of the existent applications and design/implement new solutions according to the business needs of the everchanging environment of the power market.

 

The mission comprises the following activities:

- management of the development cycle, infrastructure and production releases (DevOps);

Context & Role:
The primary purpose of this role is to perform MtM and P&L reporting and reconciling activity within the FINOPS team and automation of various reporting/FINOPS tools. The role will involve performing varied aspects of reporting (e.g. MtM reports for monthly closing, daily/weekly/monthly P&L reporting, reconciliation of P&L between various systems) and developing automated tools and dashboards.

As a Financial Analyst, your main missions would be:

• Preparing MtM Valuations and support Accounting teams in explaining P&L movements
• Prepare reconciliations between economic and accounting P&Ls
• Learn the key functions performed by Back Offices in the energy management sector.
• Develop quantitative and qualitative tools and models to help with financial analysis and business control.
• Automate manual processes / develop tools for reporting financial and operational performance for various audiences (including the FINOPS team, management team).

Context:

The Expertise Center (EC) Quantitative Research and Modeling (QRM) within GEMS is a team of 30 quantitative analysts. Its mission is to provide advanced quantitative expertise to all Business Platforms (BP) of GEMS.

The quantitative analyst would be part of the “Gas & Oil” quant team (approx. 10 people) but fully dedicated to Gas Supply & Trading (GST) Business Platform (BP). Within this BP, the midstream and upstream gas trading desks are risk managing complex assets in the financial markets, on behalf of internal and external clients.

 


 Role:

The Quantitative Analyst will be focused on the activities of Gas Supply and Trading desks.
The Quantitative Analyst is responsible for developing and maintaining the models that guide our financial and physical trading, portfolio management and risk assessment activities. 

This role is an opportunity to directly apply advanced modelling techniques as part of a highly quantitative team, with extensive experience on derivatives pricing, risk management and trading.

 The team will rely on him/her to be a real value added to the team, as a support on diverse modelling challenges. He/she will contribute to the whole valuation and risk management chain of a derivatives portfolio.

 

The Quantitative Analyst, will be responsible for the following:

  • Generate end to end model development and design from data preparation to the build & implementation, validation and calibration of derivatives pricing models
  • Theoretical development of appropriate pricing formulas of each derivative traded
    • Conceptual soundness of the modelling framework
    • Consistency with market practice
    • Proofs and mathematical evidence of formulas
    • Documentation of the methodology
  • Implementation of the pricing and risk management engines into an official pricing library
    • Insure the performance of the algorithms used
    • Insure the quality of the code produced
    • Test every new functionality
    • Respect coding conventions and best practices
  • Analysis of the portfolios, perform stress tests and relevant risk analysis

 

  • He/She will be in direct contact with Traders, understand their business needs, provide them with quantitative support in their day-to-day activities, define model needs, translate them into development features
  • He/She will collaborate with other Quants, to exchange about models, new ideas, in order to leverage on the knowledge from peers

 

Hard skills:

  •  Strong mathematical skills, expert in Quantitative Finance
  •  Good understanding of the trading and portfolio management business
  •  Proficient object-oriented programming skills (C#, Python) in order to develop autonomously prototypes & models
