Power Grid Modeling and Forecasting Advisor
What You Can Expect
As a Power Grid Modeling and Forecasting Advisor, you will report to Congestion Trading Director and will develop long term grid scenarios for the California Independent System Operator (CAISO)/Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) footprint and forecast nodal price curves using production cost modeling tools.
- Develop and execute appropriate scenario studies pertinent to the period of study and systematically analyzing the results
- Execute production cost models - Day-Ahead Locational Market Clearing Prices Analyzer (Dayzer) by systematically analyzing and updating the inputs as appropriate
- Develop systematic and repeatable approach to analyze and form fundamental views with respect to macro-trends
- Analyze and determine drivers of Day Ahead and Real Time congestion market outcomes based on macro-fundamentals (supply, demand, renewables) and micro-fundamentals (specific transmission and generation outage impacts, bids, facility limits)
- Identify model gaps by calibrating the model results to market outcomes and determine appropriate solutions
- Recommend and implement process improvements to the enhance fundamental trading
- Participate in Independent System Operator (ISO) meetings as appropriate and assess commercial impacts
- Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve relevant tools
- Develop and maintain dispatch and flow models, communicating fundamental developments and views to stakeholders
- Build models to track market fundamentals and regularly benchmark against actualizations
What You’ll Bring
- Master’s degree in which you completed courses in relevant disciplines (Engineering/Business/Finance etc.)
- A minimum of seven years professional experience
- A minimum of five years of grid planning or wholesale electricity market experience in CAISO/WECC or relevant ISO
- Strong understanding of power grid optimization, powerflow shift factors, line-outage distribution factors and contingency analysis
- Strong analytical skills
- Clear and effective communicator
- Willingness to engage in dialogue and debate with colleagues
- Proficient in coding such as Structured Query Language (SQL) and Python
- Knowledge of statistical techniques

- This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy

Compensation
Salary Range: $112,000 – $172,500 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
