Grid Expert - ELECTRICAL-Solar , Pune 

 

ORGANIZATION

 

He / She reports to the Head of Engineering. His/Her responsibilities cover all the activities of ENGIE in India and in each and every country where projects are developed and built.

 

Be the Subject Matter Expert for the business regarding grid connection of medium, high and Extra high voltage systems as well as medium-voltage lines, keeping abreast of policy changes and their applicability.

 

The position is based in Pune and business trips may be envisaged in India & overseas.

 

MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The missions & responsibilities of the Electrical Grid Expert are :

 

➢Review of Grid management ,PSS, GSS and Balance of Plant (BoP) design, drawing and document submissions from EPC contractors against industry best practice, law, international and local standards, in addition to Engie' contractual and interfacing requirements from the perspective of grid connection compliance with advanced grid solutions;

 

➢In charge of all aspects and documentation of the contractual negotiations during Business Development of all Technical-related agreements/bids etc.

 

➢Ensure grid connection deliverables required to be submitted by Engie are provided in a timely, safe, and high-quality manner;

 

➢Undertake and support the procurement, design, installation, commissioning, and testing of wind farm grid monitoring equipment, and control systems;

 

➢Review tender specifications during the bid and align as per the requirement;

 

➢Pro-actively and autonomously support large-scale solar PV projects/Wind project through development and construction with respect to all grid related matters;

 

➢Review the Grid Codes for different operating entities/owners across the world and develop a product compliance matrix;

 

➢Develop a technical understanding of the electrical characteristics of the Solar, Wind & Storage Solutions power electronics products and their integration into electrical grids;

 

➢Support continuous development of transmission and distribution connected products based on evolving codes, standards and regulations through participation in industry standards groups and leading innovative approaches to power equipment design;

 

➢Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles

 

➢Knowledge of various IS, IEC, IEEE and grid codes etc standards related to the Engineering deliverables.

 

➢Review and support power system studies to define the plant generator performance standards and to develop the plant control system functional design specification and reactive plant requirements;

 

➢Liaise with various stakeholders to technically optimize the grid connection arrangement to achieve the most efficient solution.

 

➢Support in the commissioning of the equipment and coordination of the work of the network operator during processing;

 

➢Establish relationships with grid stakeholders, public and private local grid network operators;

 

➢Preparation and review of Solar PV Layouts/ SLD (PSS, GSS & BoP), engineering calculations like earthing, cable sizing, battery sizing etc, trench layouts, review of OEM vendors drawings (GTP, GA & QAP),SCADA documents etc.

 

➢Work closely with the procurement and construction team in line with the procurement strategies and construction strategies.

 

➢Prepare BOQ & comparison for the Project (Pre-Bid/Post-Bid) coordinating with BD, O&M & other departments input.

 

➢Factory Visit for evaluating different OEM’s for major equipment’s of PSS, GSS and BoP.

 

➢Site Visit for the upcoming and ongoing projects;

 

➢Preparation of SOPs and Checklists for the methodology followed for various processes

 

➢Support of Construction Managers of Project Companies or Plant Managers of O&M Companies, for punctual problems during construction, commissioning phase and during operations.

 

➢Actively liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure grid connection issues are resolved on time.

 

➢Perform technology watch and share knowledge within the ETSG team.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

 

Pre-requisites:

 

➢Master/Bachelor degree in engineering BE/BTech or equivalent (Full time) AICTE recognised University.
➢Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in the power generation sector (Ideally in Renewable/Solar & Wind sector) with specific knowledge, expertise and experience in Oversee grid operations , deep understanding of grid infrastructure, energy distribution developing or designing / review of GSS, PSS and BoP in solar PV projects (Experience in Wind project would be added advantage) including the ability to:
•Conduct technology configurations
•Determine construction strategies and operating philosophies
•Must have extensive experience with PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, DigSILENT:.
•General understanding/awareness of country/region technical regulations and standards
•Evaluate conceptual designs and knowledge

➢Have a significant background in undertaking grid connection studies using PSCAD, PSSE, and be able to interpret, comprehend, and communicate the simulation study performance and apply this to demonstrate compliance with the relevant performance standards and as applicable to the real-world performance

 

➢Handling multidisciplinary projects are considered strong assets;

 

➢A basic understanding of EHV/HV/MV/LV (DC & AC) electrical systems, including international practices on grid connection for centralized energy projects, as well as electrical system integration & optimization for industrial customers.

 

➢Knowledge and experience working on competitive tenders in different regions (National & International) would be advantageous.

The missions and responsibilities of the Assistant Manager-Civil are:

Key Deliverables:

Purpose of the Job:

 

Set up and animate the Construction Management System in accordance with company policy. Management of complete Construction on site and ensure incident free construction / operations on site, timely completion and ensuring quality at all levels in the project.

 

Reporting lines

This position reports to Head - Construction Projects / COO for all day to day activities pertaining to specific site/s. 

 

Key Accountabilities

 

Overall responsibility for successfully delivering Solar PV/Wind/Hybrid projects to include all Field Engineering, Local Procurement, Construction, Commissioning phases and Handover of the Project.

 

Provide timely and accurate project performance on site and status reporting.

 

Enforce compliance with all contractual requirements.

 

Enforce compliance with all Federal, State and Local codes, regulations and requirements;

 

Responsible for the application and enforcement on site of the Health, Safety and Environmental policy.

Detailed responsibilities

 

Perform preliminary site survey, on site data collection, evaluation of occupation plan and preliminary identification of potential issues to be considered during the construction (site access, climatic conditions, construction authorizations, etc.).

 

Co-ordinate with EPC Project Manager for all matters pertaining to the site under execution.

 

Assist in the negotiations and review of all suppliers and subcontractors contractual and technical obligations with the support of the procurement team.

 

Prepare the Site Execution planning.

 

Identify and Manage risks and opportunities.

 

Prepare and apply for the construction authorizations (administrative declarations, road access authorizations, etc.

 

Define the project organization in line with the Project Execution / Quality Assurance Plan and participate in the selection of key personnel.

 

Construction management and decide how the site construction activities will be managed and controlled.

 

Manage all local issues in a safe manner while maintaining the reputation of the company.

Alert the management of any deviation.

 

Enforce execution of the Overall Quality Control Plan (including SAT, Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning activities) until COD of the Project, and share progress with the Quality Control department.

 

Coordinate the pre-commissioning and commissioning of the asset with the various Equipment suppliers, contractors and Grid Operators to the satisfaction of Lenders and Equity Technical advisors and as per minimum guaranteed performance level in the contract, with the involvement of the Quality Control department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The development of utility-scale energy projects and subsequent participation in government and corporate tenders in Engie Southern Africa is led by a Business Development Department and supported by the Engineering Department. The general role of a Technical Project Lead (TPL) is to:

  • Define and Lead the technical aspects of projects in Pre-Development (Feasibility), Development (Bid/Tender) and Final Development Stage (Financial Close) stage, including interfacing with internal stakeholders, engineering consultants, technology providers, suppliers and contractors with the aim of:
    • maturing technical solutions through each phase

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The development of utility-scale energy projects and subsequent participation in government and corporate tenders in Engie Southern Africa is led by a Business Development Department and supported by the Engineering Department. The general role of a Technical Project Manager (TPM) is to:

  • Define and Lead the technical aspects of projects in Pre-Development (Feasibility), Development (Bid/Tender) and Final Development Stage (Financial Close) stage, including interfacing with internal stakeholders, engineering consultants, technology providers, suppliers and contractors with the aim of:
    • maturing technical solutions through each phase
    • improving bid competitiveness
    • and ensuring technical governance and sustainability criteria are respected (quality, health & safety, efficiency, environmental compliance) for the construction, operation and maintenance of the asset. 
  • Be responsible for choice of technologies, technical configuration and for setting relevant performance, statutory, safety and quality requirements.
  • Be responsible for the prescription, procurement specification, adjudication and management of technical services and products.
  • Be responsible for drafting and negotiating owner techno-commercial specifications, including the incorporation of the latest group experience and technical guidelines.
  • Be in charge of all technical-related agreements during the development phase, including documentation drafting and contractual negotiation (e.g. EPC, PPA, OMA, LTSA, OE, LTA, IE etc).
  • Define procurement strategies and construction strategies in collaboration with the Business Development Department, Procurement Department and Construction Department.
  • Prepare Capex and Opex costs including market consultation and integrating feedback from Group assets and Group specialists.
  • Prepare the Operations phase philosophy and technical related documents (OM organization chart, O&M references, O&M Philosophy, etc.).
  • Assess and evaluate technical risks and advise and/or draft professional reports during the various stages of the project approval process.
  • Perform technology watch and share knowledge within the Engineering team.
  • Hand-over technical aspects and documents to the Project and Operations companies, and Provide ad-hoc support and advisory to operational assets and construction projects.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Education

  • Engineering Qualification: BSc, BEng or BTech
  • Additional relevant qualifications would be advantageous
  • Professional registration would be advantageous  

 

Language

  • Fluent in English (verbal and written skills)

 

Core Experience & Skills

  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in the power generation sector, specifically able to demonstrate experience and engineering expertise across 2 or more power generation technologies, including:
    • Solar PV, Onshore Wind, BESS, Thermal, CSP  
    • Ability to provide senior guidance and mentorship to Engineering team members
    • Ability to support manager in implementing strategy, process and governance within Engineering
    • Ability to provide advisory, technical expertise and management across the value chain of a power generation project.
  • A good understanding of the techno-economic life cycle and risk profile of a power project and knowledge in financial indicators for project follow-up
  • A comprehensive understanding of power plant development, the IPP model and the associated Project Finance technical requirements and interfaces.
  • Experience in scoping the technical works, reviewing & evaluating technical proposals, setting & assessing the performance of the works, and providing lifecycle advisory, guidance and recommendations.
  • Experience in leading and project/contract managing technical workstreams and internal/external stakeholders to drive the overall project objectives. 
  • Experience in translating technical requirements into commercial & contractual concepts in collaboration with the BD, Legal and Finance teams.

Advantageous Experience & Skills

  • Experience across multiple power generation technologies
  • Experience across multiple project phases (development, construction, commissioning, operations. decommissioning)
  • Experience with various project types and structures (greenfield, brownfield, acquisitions, divestments, project finance, equity finance, government and corporate PPAs).
  • Knowledge of energy market players (Suppliers, Contractors, Consultants, Competitors) and industry practice would be advantageous

              Pre-development phase

  • Identify predevelopment opportunities and enable an early position for the group.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Degree

  • University Degree in Engineering, Finance or Economics;
  •  International MBA is a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years’ relevant working experience in the Energy sector;
  • More than 3 years of BD experience;
  • Experience in South Africa’s Private PPA programmes;
  • Good understanding of the typical bid requirements for the renewable energy industry;
  • Preference in experience in bringing projects to financial close with a specific focus on PPA negotiations and project finance exposure.

Language

  • Fluent in English, knowledge of other language(s) is a plus;

Specific Knowledge / skills

  • Detailed knowledge of energy markets in South Africa;
  • Renewable Power technologies including Solar , wind and Batteries;
  • Contract negotiation skills (EPC, PPA, SHA, Financing, …);
  • Knowledge of project finance mechanics and risk allocation.
