About the team
 

Our Future Collectivities & Homes team develops high added value activities ranging from scouting innovative solutions and technology concepts to on-the-field technical expertise and solution deployment. 

 

The team shares in-depth knowledge of the different home energy-consuming equipment (from theoretical knowledge of various technologies to their modelling and the testing of the market available products), of ways of controlling them, and of making them interact with each other in a Home Energy Management System.

 

Our main fields of investigation cover, on the one hand, the decarbonation of the end user energy usage (mainly on heating installations), and on the other hand, the diffuse flexibility of residential assets (both for the distribution grid and the energy supplier points of view) by managing loads like electric vehicles, water heaters, batteries and heat pumps.

 

Your responsibilities as a Project Manager Future Home & Collectives include:

  • Project Management: Lead and manage R&D projects from inception to business adoption. Define project scope, objectives, milestones, and deliverables while ensuring adherence to quality and customer needs. Coordinate multi-disciplinary projects and collaborate with experts from various fields, including external solution providers. Engage in direct discussions with the business.
  • Risk Management: Drive risk management strategies by identifying potential roadblocks and implementing mitigation plans to ensure project success.
  • Technical Expertise: Leverage technical expertise to work closely with experts and provide comprehensive, integrated solutions. Experience in transforming research work into commercial services is an asset.
  • Client Relationships and Technical Leadership: Build trusting relationships with clients, from defining their needs to delivering high-value solutions. Lead the technical definition of new projects and adapt to client needs while respecting timelines and budgets.
  • Innovation and Sustainable Development: Initiate new projects, support ideation, and contribute valuable input to the R&D roadmap. Foster an innovative culture within the R&D team by encouraging creativity, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement. Your profile as a Project Manager Future Home & Collectives (M/F/X):

 

  • Education and Experience:
    Master’s degree in Electrical, Electromechanical or Energy Engineering.
    A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management within an R&D or product development environment is essential
  • Project Management Skills: Proven track record of leading complex projects from concept to market launch. Strong understanding of product lifecycle management, innovation processes, and technology development. Experience with agile methodologies and project management tools.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in at least three of the following areas: electricity markets, energy flow simulations, heat pumps, stationary batteries, electric mobility, solar inverters, and communication protocols. Data science skills in energy/power flow modeling, Python coding, mathematical and programming optimization, time-series forecasting, with AI and machine/deep learning as an asset.
  • Soft Skills: Eagerness to learn, teamwork, strong leadership, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Work Environment: Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Hands-on technical expertise to guide and challenge R&D teams effectively.

About the team

 

The Renewables & Urban Business Line of Laborelec provides business-focused research and expertise services to energy operators worldwide in the fields of future home and collectivities, solar, wind, hybrid and flexible assets, e-Mobility, lighting and energy storage.  

 

What you’ll be doing

 

We offer 2 years rotation program, you will have the possibility of being active on operational and R&D projects as an Expert or a Project Manager within our Business Line Renewables & Urban.

Within the R&U business line, different types of projects are managed:

  • desktop studies or pilot project realization to solution development and measurement campaigns in domains related to future home and collectivities, solar, wind, storage, green mobility, energy management and hybridisation of technologies (incl. digital and data management).
  • development of power & energy management systems (EMS), optimizing the operation of the energy system.

 

These projects are typically performed in collaboration with research or industrial partners and operational entities of ENGIE and in combination with Laborelec’s expertises (energy storage, renewable energy technologies, electric mobility smart charging, power network studies & measurements, cyber security, IT solutions, …)

 

The exact program will be defined at the start of your activities depending on your affinities and needs. A personal development program and follow-up will also be in place to support and guide you during your learning process.

Your responsibilities as a Power Transformer Expert

 

We are looking for a Power Transformer Expert with experience working for a transformer manufacturer. The ideal candidate will support customers in writing specifications, conduct design reviews for orders, and oversee production and manufacturing processes. Additionally, the expert will be responsible for conducting technical inspections, following factory tests, and performing root cause analysis (RCA) and failure investigations.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Engage in all aspects of the electricity value chain, from production to industry, and stay updated on new transformer technologies and market trends.
  • Collaborate with universities and research centres locally and abroad.
  • Be open to travel for interventions, inspections, design review meetings, on sites worldwide.
  • Draft specifications for transformers, evaluate supplier offers, conduct design reviews, and follow up on manufacturing and construction at supplier facilities.
  • Perform condition assessments, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, simulations, and material analysis for operating transformers

 

Your profile 

 

  • Hold a title of Master of Science in Industrial Sciences or Master of Science in Engineering, specialized in Electricity or Electro-Mechanics. 
  • Possess proven expertise in Power Transformers and experience in large Power Transformer design. 
  • Demonstrate strong technical and market knowledge to support the recommendations that you will formulate as Transformer Expert 
  • Quickly analyse customer issues, develop tailored commercial proposals, and build trusting client relationships with a customer-oriented mindset. 
  • Communicate fluently in English, and willing to learn Dutch or French.
  • Be able to write technical reports in correct English.

Your responsibilities as an Electrical generator expert

 

We seek a Generator Expert with experience in operation and maintenance, condition monitoring, and maintenance strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in root cause analysis (RCA) and maintenance optimisation for power generator systems. You will join a team of experts based, partly based, in the client offices.

 

You will be required to :

  • Performance & Efficiency: Develop and implement strategies to optimise power generator systems' performance, reliability, and efficiency. Monitor and analyse key performance indicators to identify degradation trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Condition Monitoring & Maintenance Strategies:  Support the client in designing and implementing proactive maintenance strategies to minimise downtime and extend asset life. Establish best practices for preventive and corrective maintenance based on data-driven insight.
  • Technical Studies & Recommendations: Conduct technical studies and provide asset reliability and maintenance recommendations. Develop recommendations for improving generator performance and resolving recurring failures.
  • Client Support: Assist with asset inspections, health index estimations, and guidance during major incidents and repairs.
  • Collaboration & Analysis: With the support of colleagues at the headquarters, support root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for generator failures, performance issues, and unexpected breakdowns. Challenge OEM recommendations by proposing cost-effective, practical solutions.
  • Field Expertise: Assist clients with on-site inspections, health index estimations, and condition assessments. Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations and visit sites with client maintenance crews.

 

Your profile as an Electrical Generators Expert  

 

You may be our future colleague if you have:

 

  • A master's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical or Power Engineering (or equivalent) with a good general understanding of generator assets.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in power generation with a strong focus on generator operation, maintenance, and reliability.
  • Mandatory experience with a major fleet operator in the US/Europe.
  • Hands-on experience in equipment condition monitoring and maintenance and strong technical knowledge of generator systems.
  • Proven track record in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and developing maintenance strategies to improve asset performance.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Fluency in English.

Our dynamic international team of 21 mechanical and vibrations engineers is renowned for its exceptional problem-solving skills in both the power energy sector and general industry. Your responsibilities as Vibrations Project Engineer (F/M/X)

 

To enhance our activities in identifying root causes of problems and conducting design assessments, we are seeking a Vibrations Project Engineer eager to develop his/her career in Condition Monitoring and Vibrations Analysis.

 

In this role, you will monitor the vibration behaviour of turbo generator shaft lines and engage in complex root cause analysis of rotating machinery. Additionally, you will advise our customers on the best condition monitoring strategies for their specific assets.

Your Mission:

  • Conduct detailed vibration analysis reviews of turbo generator shaft lines.
