What You Can Expect

As our Project Development Advisor for ENGIE Distributed Solar and Storage (DSS), you will play a crucial role in supporting site origination and development of distributed solar and solar + storage projects across North America. In this role, you will engage in various tasks related to land acquisition, permitting, environmental review, and other key aspects of project development, aligning with ENGIE's renewable energy goals and growth strategy. You will demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor. This position is based in Chicago, IL and reports to the Director of Project Development.

 

 

Project Leadership: Oversee development stages of greenfield and acquired projects, handling everything from land acquisition to design, while also managing interactions with stakeholders and attending key community and policy events

 

Business Development Support: Aid in identifying new opportunities in target states, support M&A activities, and ensure smooth transaction closures aligned with internal and stakeholder requirements

 

Team and Process Management: Lead and train the Project Development team, assign tasks, and coordinate with third-party consultants. Ensure adherence to ENGIE's internal procedures and approval processes

 

Strategic Presentations: Prepare and present detailed reviews of projects and market strategies to both DSS and global management teams

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Environmental Sciences, Economics or related field

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in energy, customer/developer-facing experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years of renewable project development experience, including managing projects at various stages of the development lifecycle
  • You are conscientious and detail-oriented with unimpeachable integrity, demonstrating a team-first attitude while skillfully handling commercial disagreements with poise and professionalism across internal and external stakeholders
  • You possess a high degree of creative problem-solving acumen, particularly in renewables transactions and project development, complemented by a general understanding of renewable energy market trends and the impacts on solar project development. Experience with distributed/community solar programs is advantageous
  • You are results-oriented and motivated, capable of working independently within a large matrixed organization. You thrive in rapidly changing environments and are adept at managing multiple high-stakes transactions simultaneously
  • You are proficient in MS Excel, Word, CRM tools and PowerPoint, with superior verbal and written communication skills, enabling you to effectively present to a diverse range of audiences

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 25% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips

Compensation

Salary Range: $112,000 – $165,000 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

Purpose / Mission

The HR Director at ENGIE Energy Access (EEA) is a high impact leadership position that will deliver EEA wide HR projects, support country HR Leads in finalizing projects and provide senior level HR business partnership. The right candidate is business savvy, with high expertise in the people and hard skills required for a highly functioning HR function.

This candidate will provide hands-on support to deliver on projects themselves and support the wider HR team in delivering on their projects. The successful candidate will have proven experience in leading disparate teams in multiple locations, providing mature support while leading by example. The job holder will also be responsible for leading the dissemination of company values to the entire team while working to restore confidence in the HR function. The future incumbent will be able to deploy and successfully steer implementation and execution of the ENGIE HR strategy, policies and processes, and so be a professional member of the ENGIE HR line.

Scope of Work

  • Drive employee engagement across the organization by creating active feedback channels, ensuring regular engagement surveys are conducted, supervising the team to implement meaningful action planning based on the findings.

  • Lead the dissemination of findings from the engagement surveys and drive communication to the wider team on the survey results and the proposed action plans.

  • Support cultural transformation through deployment of Group programs (Be.U@ENGIE , DEI Roadmap, Engie Ways of Working, Engie Ways of Leading) across EEA. 

 

Talent Management and Leadership Development:

  • Design & implement the talent development strategy to deliver professional development and growth opportunities across all EEA employee types, including skills development, learning and development programming, career pathing, and succession planning for key leadership roles

  • Build and implement leadership development and coaching programming

  • Design and Implement meaningful performance management across the organization to ensure that we have a good understanding of our talent, can effectively identify and reward top talent, and address cases of underperformance

  • Design recruitment, succession planning, and mobility programs to ensure business continuity and that we have the right skills and people to achieve business goals

  • Connect with Flexible Generation & Retail & Group processes (ex: People & Position Review process)

 

Data and Tools:

  • Implement follow-up on any Group HRIS & related processes (ex: Sezame)

  • Propose and implement additional HR tools supporting our activities and not covered by Engie’s solutions (Leaves, expenses management)

  • Create an HR repository of data that is and remains the single source of truth for HR matters

 

HR Business Partnership:

  • Improve HR’s and standing with the rest of the business, providing clear guidance and direction on all HR matters in support of the business.

  • Provide HR business partnering support to the Leadership Team and Country Teams

  • Manage and mitigate senior level ethics risks N-1 and N-2 level

 

Country Team HR Support:

  • Lead, mentor, guide and develop in country HR leadership to deliver key business objectives

  • Work with country HR Leads to ensure that our internal policies support our people-forward approach while being compliant to labour laws across different markets.

  • Define and roll out unified EEA HR Policies and an EEA employee Handbook that provide guidelines to HR practitioners across EEA.

  • Provide nuanced HR support to all markets as required.

 

Knowledge and skills 

Experience:

  • 10+ years working experience in talent management and development

  • 10+ years experience in operational HR functions

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in both “hard” and “soft” HR specifically job grading, remuneration package design, payroll management, etc.

  • Successful experience as Talent Director or similar role with at least regional or global oversight

  • An understanding of multinational companies or vertically integrated institutions operating in multiple markets

  • Experience in company integration (preferred)

  • Working experience in Africa and Europe

  • Living/ practical experience in at least one country in Africa or similar market with Bottom of the Pyramid customers

  • Experience with Hay Job Grading or similar job grading methodology

  • Leadership and project management experience: we are looking for entrepreneurial candidates who have started or contributed significantly to a particular project, team, or new company and we especially value candidates who have seen projects through from start to finish, from design to scale up phase

 

Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree or Masters.

Technology:

The position will have primary focus on both the preparation and management of contract bidding, and associated pre-construction phase activities, while also directing Contract negotiations and making recommendation to the ENGIE Leadership team for contract awards. Following successful placement of contracts, the Director of Preconstruction will take accountability for the handover and effective legacy support to the Director of Delivery ensuring ultimately the delivery of safe, timely, cost effective and class leading renewable energy projects. 

 

  • Successful execution of this position requires clear and consistent coordination of multiple project stakeholders including developers, contractors, vendors, owners, and financing partners. The Director of Pre-Construction must have exceptional project management skills and possess the ability to successfully lead a project team through challenging problems.  The Director of Pre-Construction will also manage a team of six direct reports.
  • Project management services, coordination, and support for large and complex wind, solar, and storage projects during the pre-construction phase of the project
  • Liaise with project development teams to support and coordinate earlier project engagement and coordination efforts to support ease of transition into delivery phase
  • Support and provide delivery expertise and oversight around engineering design and permitting efforts
  • Direct, control and manage adequate resourcing plans to support the delivery of all preconstruction deliveries for renewable energy projects as required

  • Develop the Request for Proposal (RFP) packages relying on discussions and documentation from the Project Team members to provide a complete package meeting that includes the project schedule and incorporating stakeholder requirements
  • Administer the contract bidding process for contracts as bidder single point of contact using coordination meetings, site visits and issuing RFP addenda as required. Prepare bid tabulations incorporating Project Team member’s reviews to make final bidder recommendation
  • Notify the selected bidder and unsuccessful bidders providing bid feedback as appropriate. Support the negotiations with the selected bidder and release the other bidders
  • Administer and control the negotiations with the selected bidder using a documented process and good judgment to resolve Scope and Terms and Conditions differences
  • Prepare final contract, award letter and Notice to Proceed as appropriate
  • Review supplier/contract project invoicing for contract compliance
