Role:

THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The "Core and Fuel Studies" Group within the “Safety and Modelling Expertise" Competence Centre is in charge of the Tractebel activities related to the fuel cycle, core design, safety evaluation and core exploitation support for nuclear reactors for the Belgian Utility.  It also performs the criticality, shielding and activation assessment of fresh and irradiated fuel.

The group is subdivided into three operational subgroups, each one under the responsibility of a sub-group leader :

i)   Cycles Studies, incorporating Cycle Studies activities and Core physics studies

ii)  Neutronic studies & Tools: incorporating all activities related to Criticality, Shielding, Activation, Residual Heat and Fuel Data Base(s)

In the Cycle Studies sub-group, you will be in charge of core reload design, reload safety verification and core operational support for the Belgian nuclear power plants.  The main tasks are:

  • engineering studies in the domain of core and fuel physics using industry-standard methods and simulation codes
  • definition in-core fuel management strategy and new core loading patterns consistently with the Utility requirements
  • verification of the cycle safety as regards the core neutronics and thermal-hydraulic aspects
  • engineering support to the Utility, in particular participation to the start-up tests, to the core depletion follow-up, ..
  • Writing Engineering / synthesis reports of your analyzes

YOUR PROFILE

  • You are a civil or industrial engineer, specialized in nuclear energy, physics or electromechanics, or B.Sc. in physics.  A practical proficiency in core physics calculations is an asset.
  • You are keen to develop a technical expertise
  • You have a good theoretical background in nuclear systems, core physics phenomena and neutronics.

Your function

 

For the Gas product, you are in charge of Pipeline engineering studies necessary to design, build gas pipelines; gas compression stations and all what is related to the handling of gas in an industrial environment. Your role will address mainly the following tasks:

  • Execute feasibilities studies analysing the optimal routing for a pipeline routing considering all aspects of constrains.
  • Integration of the project constraints in the design of the pipeline system.
  • Act as Technical Integrator of complex projects consolidating engineering studies from various disciplines (process, mechanical, electrical, civil, I&C, HSE, etc.)
  • Deliver pipeline engineering services that meet Tractebel’s, its customers' and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.
  • Perform technical-economic studies including cost estimates
  • Execute detailed design studies for a chose and frozen pipeline.
  • follow up of the contracting process for these services (bid comparison, technical and economic negotiations, contracting)

bearbeitet. Innerhalb der Abteilung unterstützen wir vermehrt Projekte zur Dekarbonisierung von Sektoren/Industrien,
mittels grünen Wasserstoffs und Folgeprodukten, wie grünem Ammoniak/e-fuels/e-methanol. Unsere Leistungen
erbringen wir als Teil der Tractebel-Gruppe im Inland und weltweit. Ihre Aktivitäten umfassen im Wesentlichen:

 

 

  • Erstellung und ingenieurtechnische Umsetzung von Kraftwerksprojekten durch alle Planungsphasen (einschließlich deren Genehmigungsfähigkeit) bis zur Bau- und Inbetriebsetzung

Commissioning - Engineering Advisor

As a Commissioning Engineering advisor in Denver, Co or Houston, TX, you will be responsible for leading and supporting the commissioning activities for utility-scale Wind, Solar and battery storage projects. You will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day commissioning activities with our EPC contractor while on site.

 

Every day, you will be responsible for all aspects of plant commissioning, including equipment and system inspection and checkout, overseeing daily commissioning activities, reviewing start-up schedules, and communicating with the Engineering team, Project Manager and senior management. You will provide engineering and technical support to projects to ensure that projects are completed within regulation and budget. You will assume direct ownership for all components and systems integrity and work with various departments to complete contractual requirements with the highest degree of safety and quality. You will work with the Project Manager and assist in assembling the turn over package for Operations.

 

  • Responsible to prepare ENGIE Commissioning philosophy, plan, schedule, standards, and procedures
  • Develop and refine methodologies, tools, and standards for an evolving commissioning practice to support ENGIE growth plan
  • Work with the Project Manager or their designee to jointly develop the punchlist prior to release of the system/equipment to Commissioning
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications to ensure adequate provisions have been made for precommissioning and commissioning functions
  • Review designs, equipment submittals, Operation & Maintenance manuals, start-up reports, checklists, and training programs for overall compliance with the Owner's requirements and commissioning plans 
  • Review test results and prepare test reports to confirm compliance with technical specifications
  • Provide initial commissioning plan, as well as coordinate precommissioning activities (including factory acceptance tests)
  • Serve as the lead interface between construction, commissioning, and operations, minimizing conflicts and maximizing cooperation during construction completion, commissioning, and performance testing phases
  • Execute Commissioning Procedures directing a Commissioning Team consisting of commissioning engineers, technicians, Operations personnel, other contractors, and vendor support personnel
  • Provide management and leadership to the start-up/testing and commissioning program from initial plan development, construction turnover, testing, start-up, commissioning, and turnover to operations for the defined project scope
  • Oversee the inspection process during commissioning to ensure work is delivered in a timely manner, meeting all customer expectations and specifications
  • Performs detailed system quality control inspections for completeness of installation vs. install manuals, engineering specifications and drawings and maintain detailed punchlist
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve site commissioning issues and concerns that the customer may arise
  • Monitor plant operations and provide guidance to Operations team as necessary
  • Report to the Project Manager on issues regarding commissioning, start-up schedule, and progress
  • Ensure that an organized documentation filing structure for all commissioning reports and documents is in place before starting testing and being maintained daily
  • Ensure that technical deviations are reported with a corresponding non-conformance report (NCR)
  • Direct or assist in developing Project Manpower Estimates and System Commissioning Schedules
  • Develop vendor call-out requirements and schedule for specialized vendor supplied equipment and overall vendor coordination
  • Prepare action plans to address gaps in the commissioning schedule/plan
  • Manage commissioning site visits, evaluation of new and existing sites…Ensure the highest level of environmental health and safety is incorporated in all electrical engineering and design aspects of ENGIE’s renewable energy generation projects

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in which you completed courses in electrical engineering, energy engineering, engineering technology or related field
  • A minimum of 7 years professional engineering experience
  • Clear understanding of OSHA safe workplace practices and procedures
  • Advanced Inverter commissioning, operation, communications, troubleshooting, manufacturer training and/or certification
  • Familiarity with medium voltage ac collection and High Voltage substation designs
  • Good knowledge of Medium Voltage Transformers and other Renewable Energy Balance of System (BOS)Advanced Construction, structural, electrical single-line and three-line drawings markups and red-lines, RFIs
  • Good knowledge of Utility and Interconnection (Substation and POI) Equipment
  • Electrical License and/or Equivalent education
  • Ability to read and interpret system and equipment plans, specifications, manuals
  • Familiarization with ERCOT and other ISOs New Generator Commissioning Requirements.

 

Additional Details

  • This is a field position requiring regular travel to project sites

Compensation

Salary Range: $112,000 – $172,500 USD annually

to join our enthusiastic team in Tihange.

You will address the technical follow-up of the civil works related to the different projects that are ongoing and will be realized in the frame of

  • Long Term Operations – namely the projects associated to the anticipated life time extension of Tihange 3
  • Decommissioning and Dismantling – namely both the new build and modifications associated to the final shutdown of Tihange 1 and 2;
  • Plant Operational Support – namely the civil works assistance we deliver to the operational power plants (e.g. from maintenance works for cooling towers or other important structures, to completely new build structures, as e.g. Spent Fuel Storage Facilities);

You will join the Site Team under the mentorship of the Site Lead.

 

Typical activities include:

  • interfacing between Tractebel’s back office, the Client and Contractors realizing the works;
  • inspecting the Contractors’ execution activities, verifying compliance with execution drawings and documents (erection methodology etc.);
  • verifying and monitoring of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) requirements;
  • management of the technical interfaces between Contractors;
  • management and follow up of main design modifications;
  • participation to regular meetings with the stakeholders: progress, challenges, interfaces, HSE, etc.;
  • drafting work orders and site orders, issuing notes on the execution and shortcomings, and checking the progress reports prepared by the Contractors;
  • continually exchanging information on developments in work, studies, etc.;

 

The successful candidate

  • Holds a Master degree in civil/structural engineering. Relevant professional experience in an engineering environment, including design assignments and erection follow-up, preferably in an industrial environment is an advantage;
