Requisition ID : 42556

Private Markets - Investment Analyst

About Synatom
Synatom, a 100% subsidiary of ENGIE Electrabel, manages the nuclear fuel cycle for Belgian nuclear power plants. This includes procuring uranium and supplying enriched uranium for fuel assembly production.
Synatom is also responsible for establishing and managing Belgium's nuclear dismantling and onsite storage provisions—financial resources set aside to cover the future costs of dismantling nuclear power plants and the onsite storage of nuclear waste. Synatom is amongst the largest institutional investors in Belgium. Assets under management totaled €3.5 billion at the end of 2024 and are projected to grow beyond €7.0 billion by 2030.
Synatom’s investment portfolio is diversified between public markets (e.g., equity and fixed income) and private markets (i.e., private debt, private equity, infrastructure, and real estate). Assets are invested via external investment managers. ESG considerations are embedded in our investment strategy to ensure long-term sustainability.
Synatom’s investment team is responsible for preserving and enhancing the real value of the investment portfolio, considering long-term liabilities, and implementing the company’s investment strategy.

Role overview
This is a unique opportunity to join a young and dynamic team where you can grow your responsibilities over time. You will gain expertise across diverse aspects of private markets investing, be in touch with some of the most sophisticated players in the space and play a role in shaping Synatom’s evolving investment processes.
The successful candidate will join the Investment Team to work closely with the Private Markets Investment Manager supporting the analysis, implementation, and monitoring of private markets investment funds (private equity and private debt). While Synatom currently works with an external consultant for manager sourcing and modeling, the role offers the opportunity to take on more responsibility as private markets tasks are increasingly insourced. The candidate will be expected to grow with the position by taking ownership of some investments and processes.

Key responsibilities
As a Private Markets Investment Analyst, you will :

  • Assist in reviewing and challenging investment opportunities and financial modelling provided by the external consultant.
  • Participate in meetings with fund managers to validate investment theses and engage in post-investment monitoring.
  • Facilitate the closing of the fund investments by preparing legal documents and coordinating with legal and tax advisors to ensure timely closing of fund commitments.
  • Monitor existing investments, enhance investment tracking tools, and contribute to the further insourcing of the investment process.
  • Monitor and react appropriately to funds’ communications (drawdown/distribution notices, quarterly valuations and reports, funds’ correspondence/requests, etc.) and maintain electronic filing of all relevant documents.
  • Process drawdowns/distributions notices and quarterly reports, ensuring data accuracy in internal and external systems.
  • Coordinate with the Operations Team to ensure timely payment of drawdowns and receipt of distributions.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for the Investment Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Contribute to the integration of private markets investments in a new portfolio management system.
  • Support the investment team on broader investment-related topics or projects, including asset-liability management, strategic asset allocation or selection of key providers.

Qualification and skills

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Engineering or Law. CFA, CAIA, or similar certifications or a willingness to pursue one is a plus.
  • At least 2-years of work experience in investment analysis, portfolio management, corporate finance, or consulting. Private markets experience is a plus but not required.
  • Interest in private markets and willingness to learn about other sides of an institutional investment process (asset-liability management, public markets, selection of key providers, software implementation, etc.).
  • Analytical mindset with intellectual curiosity and adaptability.
  • Proactive, eager to learn, and comfortable challenging the status quo.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interest in investments and financial markets.
  • Fluent in English and Dutch or French.
  • High ethical standards and respect for governance principles.
