What You Can Expect

The Engineer Intern is a critical role responsible for supporting the development and installation of energy conservation measures and renewable energy at large-scale public sector customers. You will be working in a fast-paced, team-based environment, at the direction of the Project Manager as well as their supervisor. Responsibilities in this role include the design of Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Measures, performing site audits, specifying equipment, and completing savings calculations to support projects in development and construction. Projects include a combination of energy efficiency measures and renewable generation installations, to help local cities, schools, and counties become more sustainable, save money, and improve services to their end-users and the expectation is that one to several projects are supported from early development through post-construction.

 

The intern will support ongoing projects in development or in construction which will include one ore more of the following:

  • Participate in technical design of energy-related customer improvements including such as solar photovoltaic (PV), energy storage, microgrids, energy efficiency, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) upgrades
  • Learn and apply knowledge of Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and Controls, including modeling software
  • Analyze utility data to verify existing customer loads, consider rate change options, and calculate energy and water cost savings
  • Perform renewable energy designs, including solar PV and energy storage system site surveys, and understand metering and measurement tools and data
  • Evaluate various types and locations of renewable energy systems
  • Perform energy conservation measure analysis including a comparison of technologies, savings calculations, scopes of work, and contractor bid costs for HVAC, controls, lighting, and water measures, using tools such as eQuest, Trane Trace, Energy Pro, and Excel spreadsheets, including bin simulations
  • Calculate potential solar generation quantities of various scenarios using PVSyst modeling, Helioscope and Energy Toolbase tools
  • Support the preparation of Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Measures scopes and specifications for subcontractor Request for Proposals
  • Prepare utility and other incentive program applications, permit packages, and customer submittals
  • Assist the Project and Construction Managers on job walks, bid evaluations, contractor negotiations, and during construction meetings
  • Assist with obtaining third-party quotes and subcontractor bids for all scopes, answers third-party questions, and assists with analyzing bids with Project Manager
  • Accurately estimates measure costs to anticipate total project costs
  • Communicate with authority-having-jurisdiction officials to obtain construction permits. Prior projects’ experience with DSA and OSHPD is a plus.
  • Assist during the construction phase of the project by reviewing submittals, change orders, RFI’s, and making recommendations to the Project Manager. Prior experience with Procore Construction Management software is a plus
  • Going to job sites to support construction activities as needed and directed by the ENGIE Construction Manager.

What You’ll Bring

  • Actively pursuing a 4-year degree at an accredited university with a focus in Engineering or any other quantitative degree

Additional Details

  • This is an in-office and in-field position.  Intern is expected to be on-site at the office or at a job site.

What You Can Expect

As the Electrical Instrumentation Technician Senior, you will be responsible for performing selective maintenance on various in-plant and/or satellite plant equipment.  The work will include the proper maintenance and operation of complex electrical systems, computers, controls systems, etc. and equipment that can directly affect the safety and operation of the plant. Every day you will perform routine plant electrical/control maintenance functions including, but not limited to, motors, MCCs, relays, breakers, electrical disconnects of rotating machinery, UPS/battery systems, and all electrical hand tools. Additionally, you will analyze electrical/controls problems and take appropriate action to correct and advise supervisor when outside assistance from vendors, engineering contractors, and/or consultants is necessary. 

 

  • Work with actuators, analyzers, pumps, and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
  • Support and maintain low-voltage control systems
  • Interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control logic diagrams
  • Monitor automated operation and fine-tune system performance as needed
  • Upgrade legacy systems by retrofitting PLCs, HMIs, networks to integrate new functions
  • Identify obsolete components and recommend new products and solutions
  • Continuously expand PLC programming knowledge and analytical skills
  • Utilize a CMMS for writing/completing work orders with notes to document work performed

 

What You’ll Bring 

  • A minimum educational level of a High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience; or training that totals five (5) years, that is directly applicable to this role
  • You have experience applying regulations and guidelines of local, state, and national electrical and safety codes

As the Balance of Plant (BOP) Technician, located in Abbott, TX you will serve as the primary BOP relay technician for the plant installing, maintaining, testing, adjusting, troubleshooting & repairing relay and control equipment in the electrical substation which may include electromechanical, solid-state and microprocessor protective relays, instrument transformers, indication and KWH/KW meters, controls to all substation equipment including breakers, transformers, regulators, capacitors, reactors and all associated equipment, and remote control equipment including various forms of SCADA.

SUMMARY:

This role is responsible for more complex general ledger account responsibilities, this also includes balances in conformity with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).   Encompasses, preparation, review, analysis and reporting of financial information.  

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares and reviews / posts journal entries into financial system as needed.  Ensures appropriate documentation is attached for these entries.
  • Assist in accounting for significant items that impact financial reporting (i.e. revenue recognition, lease accounting, investment fair value accounting, etc.)
  • Advises management of reasons for any unusual trends, forecast/budget variances, difficulties obtaining information or other pending issues.
  • Provides supporting schedules to assist in completing monthly financial statements.
  • Maintains relationship with Financial Planning & Analysis partners
  • Assists with complex accounting assignments including: consolidation issues, M&A activities, implementation of new IFRS standards.
  • Responsible for accuracy of the general ledger by performing monthly account analysis and reconciliations and correcting discoveries for assigned accounts.
  • Continuously assesses internal systems and controls and recommends changes that would allow greater efficiency in monthly processing.
  • Prepares a variety of other financial reports and analysis as required.
  • Key participant in the review of customer contracts to ensure compliance with revenue recognition and other critical accounting standards
  • Prepares updates and maintains policies and procedures.
  • Cross-trains for backup on designated duties of team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification/

Knowledge

 

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in accounting or business from four-year college or university.
  • CPA license strongly preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in accounting practices including an understanding for US GAAP.  Understanding of IFRS a plus.

Experience: 

 

  • 3 to 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Public accounting experience strongly preferred.

With a growing internal and external portfolio over 6 GW under management, this position will require strong expertise working with large utility scale assets and provide the attractive growth opportunities to lead a rapidly expanding team.

 

  • Join a team of renewable portfolio managers to manage a growing portfolio of wind and solar assets expected to reach 8GW+ of installed capacity in the coming years
  • Develop and execute a strategy for forward hedging of wind and solar assets in conjunction with the other parts of ENGIE North America which warehouse or originate electricity market risks (Battery Storage, Data Centers, Retail, Trading)
  • Model long term valuations for the co-location of renewable and battery storage assets with data centers and Power to X sites
  • Create optimized trading strategies around co-located sites to mitigate risks and maximize portfolio profitability

  • Build and deploy strategies for Day-Ahead offers for a large portfolio of wind and solar farms
  • Develop strategies and execute trades  with our Congestion Trading team to assess congestion risks in the respective Independent System Operators (ISOs)
  • Engage ENGIE’s external partners to advance new product business initiatives
  • Analyze and discuss the commercial terms of existing and upcoming Power Purchase Agreement (PPAs), identifying the underlying risks, and proposing alternative language and/or risk mitigation strategies
