This internship opportunity is based in Houston, TX, and spans three months, from January 2025 to May 2025. You will report to the Director, Revenue Assurance.

  • Analyze how departmental KPI reporting and operational controls impact Engie’s Retail C&I customers
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, providing timely resolutions for customer concerns, billing problems, and data requests

What You Can Expect

The Commissioning Engineer is part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on delivering all aspects of facility start-up, commissioning, testing, and handover to operations for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The Engineer interacts with, oversees, and leads a multidisciplinary team made up of ENGIE personnel, Engineering/Procurement/Construction (EPC) Contractor personnel, Major Equipment Vendor Technical Field Advisors, Consulting Engineers, and other specialist resources in accordance with all applicable contracts, permits, and other project requirements.   • Oversee all commissioning activities to transition BESS facilities from construction to safe, stable, and reliable operations
  • Develop and execute a Commissioning Plan, ensuring activities are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget and schedule
  • Examine project permits, agreements, licenses, registrations, and contracts to identify necessary data collection and activities for commissioning
  • Analyze QA/QC documentation during construction to adjust the Commissioning Plan and address issues with stakeholders
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure proper project closeout, address issues/claims, and lead continuous improvement activities related to start-up, commissioning, and testing

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in management, engineering, science, or technology related field
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience related to the development, design and/or construction of complex energy projects
  • Experience in leading, managing, and/or directing multi-discipline teams and external partners

What You Can Expect

As the IT / Control System Infrastructure Engineer located in Washington, DC you will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of SCADA software systems used for monitoring and controlling industrial processes.  This role is critical for ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and safety of our operations. 

 

The position will also involve creating and maintaining documentation to ensure adherence to  industry standard SCADA software standards and cybersecurity controls, aligning with all levels of the Purdue Security Model. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to comply with all government regulations, including FERC/NERC CIP, as well as guidelines imposed by other governing bodies relevant to the specific plant facility.

 

No two days are the same in this role. As the IT / Control Systems & Infrastructure Engineer, you will be immersed in a dynamic plant environment, working hands-on with plant personnel, including engineers, OT instrumentation technicians, and network engineers, to support and optimize our control and network systems. From developing and implementing SCADA systems to troubleshooting and enhancing OT network infrastructure, you will be at the center of operational excellence.

 

Reporting to the System Operation Director, your primary duties encompass:

 

  • Designing, developing, deploying, and providing ongoing maintenance for SCADA software systems utilized within plant instrumentation and control systems (Example of SCADA application knowledge includes; Rockwell FactoryTalk, Aveva PI, GE iFix & Simplicity)
  • Must be able to support plant personnel with industrial processes, including sensors, transmitters, controllers, and final control elements and their interconnection to the specific level of the Perdue model
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including software specifications, user manuals, and system configurations
  • Ability to assist with the installing, configuring, and commissioning instrumentation systems onsite
  • Provide ongoing maintenance and support for SCADA systems, ensuring uptime and reliability
  • Performing troubleshooting, diagnostics, and maintenance activities to ensure optimal performance and reliability of SCADA systems and other key OT hardware devices, where applicable
  • Work closely with plant personnel to understand operational needs and provide technical support
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure strict compliance with security standards and protocols
  • Collaborating with other engineering disciplines (such as electrical and mechanical) to integrate instrumentation systems into larger projects
  • Conducting performance testing, calibration, and validation of SCADA systems within the instrumentation and OT environments to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards
  • Providing technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams on instrumentation systems, when necessary
  • Keeping abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in instrumentation engineering
  • Collaborate with Plant SCADA Instrumentation Technicians, Plant Maintenance personnel, and Regulatory Compliance agencies to establish and implement best practices, as well as company IT and OT standards, for the configuration, security, and maintenance of plant Industrial Control Systems (ICS).

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related technical field where you have gained an understanding in information technology and plant controlled environments
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in SCADA and IT systems operations.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with Operational Technology (OT)/Industrial Control Systems (ICS)
  • Strong knowledge and experience in managing and supporting Microsoft Windows OS technology,
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization technology, specifically VMWare ESXi and Nutanix AHV.
  • Proficiency in OS and application patching capabilities; Ivanti System Operations skill is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in major operating systems, Microsoft Office, virtualization, backup and recovery software, disk backup, and network monitoring software.
  • Proficiency and working knowledge of SCADA system platforms;  Rockwell Factory Talk, Aveva PI, GE iFix & Simplicity
  • Understanding and compliance with NERC CIP standards, processes, and controls; participation in SCADA Network security assessments and audits.
  • Understanding of SCADA system communication and protocols to secure the network without impacting reliability is beneficial; Modbus; BACnet; TCP/IP.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals of varied technical skill levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments promptly with high accuracy.
  • Effective project management and time management skills to meet strict regulatory deadlines.

As the on-site Wind Technician II, at the Limestone Wind Site in Dawson, TX, you will operate and maintain the site by optimizing wind generation availability and performance through established procedures with the highest regard for health, safety and environment compliance. Adaptability is crucial as tasks may vary depending on operational needs and requirements. Your primary responsibilities involve troubleshooting, repairing, reconnecting, and inspecting electrical equipment, including substations and overall site performance.  At this site you will be working with high voltage energized equipment and must follow all safety procedures including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) grounding and other safety precautions. Collaborating with service providers and contractors, you will oversee daily work activities, produce various reports, operate site equipment, and coordinate with local utilities and Independent System Operators (ISOs) for switching and curtailments. 

 

Ensuring compliance with ENGIE and regulatory agency standards, you'll conduct inspections and recurring checks on site equipment. You'll actively participate in behavior-based safety programs, enforce safety procedures, and conduct orientations and meetings to promote a safe working environment. Alongside routine inspections and serving as the main contact for landowners, you'll manage spare parts inventory, coordinate contractor work, and maintain cleanliness on-site. Gaining and maintaining GWO training is required, as well as participating in turbine climbing activities. You'll provide recommendations for operational and maintenance improvements, offer equipment operation training, and utilize Root Cause Failure Analysis techniques to address failures. You will work on computerized work order systems for purchase requisitions and receiving statuses.  From time to time you will be required to support other wind assets during planned outages and emergencies, potentially requiring overnight stays. Furthermore, you'll be part of an on-call rotation and must reside within 50 miles of the site to respond promptly to outages and emergencies.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum two (2) years diploma in a technical program or equivalent experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience and knowledge of Wind generation, Power Plant, or Substation Maintenance where you have working knowledge of industrial electrical or substation equipment including breaker, disconnects, transformers, contactors
  • Must have or be willing to obtain certification as substation technician within twelve (12) months of hire date

Every day in this role you will be responsible for managing and supporting permitting, site control, interconnection matters, power marketing, design/ Engineering, Procurement, Construction “EPC”, financing and other matters critical to the development of energy storage projects throughout CAISO.

 

  • Manage/analyze information flow relevant to project development from internal subject matter experts and external consultants/vendors
  • Ownership of project inputs/assumptions and coordinating updates with respective internal groups
  • Manage project level progress, risks, opportunities, and economics while providing thoughtful analysis and risk evaluation
  • Drive decisions and prioritize allocation of resources based on a deep understanding of schedule dependencies and financial impacts
  • Maintain a understanding of the overall state of the energy storage market in CAISO, including regulatory and competitive matters, to inform development decisions
  • Track project progress through key development milestones, managing schedules and budgets, and coordinating across disciplines within the Company
  • Manage and/or support due diligence activities for acquisitions
  • Manage negotiation of lease/purchase options and agreements for site control
  • Coordinate engineering activities in pursuit of permits and as required for interconnection matters
  • Work closely with engineering team in support of design and EPC process

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Construction, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Environmental, Science, Management, or another Analytical field required
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ of work experience of which a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in CAISO or other Independent System Operator “ISO” with energy storage or renewable energy development
  • Demonstrated success and experience developing utility scale energy storage and/or renewable energy projects, within CAISO or other ISO
  • Familiarity with relevant state, county and city codes, procedures and regulations required by local planning and building departments
  • Experience preparing, negotiating, and closing commercial agreements including development agreements, site control agreements, consulting and service agreements, interconnection, and power sales agreements
  • Understanding of the CAISO market or other ISO with particular focus on interconnection, regulatory and offtake matters
  • Ability to evaluate development status and efficiently inform critical decision making with management

 

Additional Details

Must be available to travel domestically up to 30% of the time with the need for some overnight trips

Compensation

Salary Range: $134,400.00 – $207,000 USD, annually

The Role:

This position is responsible for performing complex research and resolution on client/vendor accounts; including identifying, prioritizing, and mitigating risks, and communicating and escalating risks and issues. This position will be responsible for working with utility companies directly and client indirectly.

Able to independently perform components of the Data Specialist 1 & 2 roles · Independently build Excel and Access based files to convert data files to Engie formats. · Prepare and upload data files using Access and Excel · Use RPA to run automation to web scrape retrieving bills. · Some manual data entry for summary and international invoices · Ensure that follow-up, email, and correspondence are completed in a timely manner. · Ability to understand and work with FTP sites · Work with vendors and IT partners to onboard and maintain vendor EDI feeds. o The ability to understand and communicate SAC codes o Understanding of Engie’s mapping requirements(templates) to ensure data accuracy. · Work with Vendors on escalated program wide issues. · Ability to utilize SQL and Power BI · Set up and maintain template mappings for all product lines and advanced services such as renewables.

You will be monitoring SCADA screens and learning how the plant is supposed to operate, as well as troubleshooting equipment.  You’ll conduct walk-throughs of the plant checking on equipment and logging test results and findings collected.

 

We are very flexible during the school year you can come in and train during any of our operating shifts, gaining hours and operational experience.  You will work rotating shifts on assigned weekends ( we operate three shifts).
