What You Can Expect

As the Senior Software Developer in Houston, Texas for ENGIE’s North America’s Global Energy Management & Supply (GEMS), you will work alongside a software development team to design and develop web and cloud-based applications using the Microsoft .NET framework and Azure platform and or Oracle PL/SQL. Every day, you will report to the Director of Solution Delivery to assist with meeting goals of the team’s transformation through implementing redesigned systems and processing using the latest digital technology.

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring

 

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or MIS curriculum and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience with C#,.NET, front end frameworks, REST, and automated testing in a professional work setting; in lieu of a four-year degree, you should bring a total of a minimum of nine (9) years of experience in which you have gained an understand of software development where you have designed and developed web and cloud-based applications
  • A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience designing and developing software solutions and database design
  • Proven experience with Oracle PL/SQL
  • Experienced with Microsoft SQL Server and database performance tuning
  • Experienced with ETL tools and processes
  • Understanding of Azure services such as Azure App Services, Azure SQL, and Azure Storage
  • Experienced with Git or other version control systems
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug applications
  • Accept and perform code reviews based on defined coding standards and contributes to coding standards
  • Ability to write complex PL/SQL scripts for data manipulation, data validation, and data management

Compensation

Salary Range: $112,000 – $172,500 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

About the role

The position is key to support ENGIE’s businesses within the UK and Ireland, in the context of existing key businesses and strong growth ambitions. ENGIE is involved in the development and operation of renewable assets (onshore wind, solar PV, biomethane plants), flexibility assets (pumped-hydro storage, gas storage, batteries), is a significant gas and electricity supplier for B2B customers and operates trading activities on wholesale markets, including 24/7 on intraday markets.

 

The purpose of the Head of Regulatory, Public Affairs and ESG/CSR role is to lead the strategic management of regulatory compliance, government relations, and public affairs as well as oversee and coordinate ESG/CSR related activities within ENGIE UK. This position aims to (1) understand key business stakes, then establish and represent the company’s position, as well as (2) monitor and explain relevant regulatory matters within the company (businesses in the UK and corporate).

 

To succeed, the Head of RAPA & ESG/CSR will effect collaboration with relevant authorities in the UK to review and help frame policy decisions, navigate regulatory frameworks, and foster strong relationships with key stakeholders,. The person in the role will also liaise and coordinate with a network of experts within the Group, in particular the Public Affairs Department, which reports to the Group General Secretary. He or she will be involved in existing networks for exchanges between the heads of public and regulatory affairs in the Group's various geographies. Government and Regulatory Body Engagement

Policy Analysis and Insights

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in regulatory affairs, public policy, government relations, or a related field within the energy sector or a closely aligned industry, including work at a strategic level.
  • Bachelor's degree in law, Public Policy, Political Science, Business Administration, Environmental Studies, or a related field. A master degree is highly desirable.
  • Certifications or additional training in energy law, policy analysis, regulatory compliance, or public affairs are highly desirable.

Context:

Within GEMS, the mission of the business platform Short-term Power as-a-Service (SPaaS) is to deliver services and value for clients on the short-term power markets through strong business expertise and a digital experience. The Power Asset Optimization (PAO) desk within SPaaS supports a large range of internal and external customers in Central Western Europe (CWE) by providing power asset optimization services on the day-ahead and intraday markets. PAO aims at delivering spot value for the different power plant technologies in the CWE portfolio while respecting the contractual, regulatory and compliance frameworks in order to avoid any penalties.

We are currently looking for a Power Asset Optimizer for Intraday (PAO ID) in Brussels to strengthen our team. The mission of the optimizer consists of a series of operational activities performed in 24/7 shifts that lock the highest possible value for each asset across the intraday markets available to them. Role:

As a Power Asset Optimizer for Intraday, your role will be to take part in the daily (24/7) asset optimization activity, which includes:

  • Carrying out continuous optimization runs for the portfolio of assets in CWE (including nuclear, coal, gas-fired, CHP, biomass and pump storage plants) and exposing accurately the flexibility from the assets to the traders from the Short-term Trading (STT) team for its trading on the continuous intraday markets.
  • Preparing asset bidding strategies for the portfolio on the intraday auctions (taking place every day at 15h00, 22h00 and 10h00), that arbitrate opportunities between these auctions and the continuous, the ancillary activation and imbalance markets (where applicable).
  • Ensuring a thorough understanding of the P&L of every asset, a comprehensive reporting of the intraday activity and a transparent logging of all relevant transactions in the deal capture systems in use.
  • Contributing to the simplification and digitalization (automation) of the activities of the desk, including the development of algorithmic solutions to prepare bidding strategies in the markets concerned.

 

Qualifications:

Here below is a summary of the qualifications that we’re looking for:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or any other quantitative discipline (economics, computer science, finance, etc.).
  • Willingness to take part in a rotating, on-duty shift system (24/7) requiring work outside standard working hours (i.e. morning, evening and night shifts), during week-ends and bank holidays (with the appropriate compensation).
  • Good understanding of the economics behind power plants, their technologies and how they are exploited in European power markets. As a Market Risk Advisor in Houston, you will work with Commercial and Risk teams to provide analytical, market insight and strategy support focused on evaluating various risk management strategies and optimizing Profit & Loss (P&L) within the risk mandates.

 

Your daily responsibilities will include a combination of regular and ad-hoc tasks including among others risk assessment of origination deals and investments; evaluating regulatory and market changes, updating models and analyses, and responding to requests from Front-Office and other Global Business Units on portfolio and risk impacts.

 

  • Develop, enhance and maintain tools, methodologies and reports that evaluate pricing and risk assessment of various commercial transactions

  • Collaborate and participate in knowledge sharing with various stakeholders and Expertise Centers (e.g. Risk, Expertise Center- Markets, Assets & Supply); support Commercial, Origination  and Business Development activities, offering views on ISO’s market fundamentals (Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Pennsylvania New Jersey Maryland Interconnection (PJM), Southwest Power Pool (SPP), Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), ISO New England (ISO-NE)), Renewable Energy development and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) pricing opportunities, price vs. renewable production dynamics, etc.
  • Use benchmarking data to support valuation and competitive assessments, and create a benchmarking process to evaluate actions undertaken by front-office

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of four-year degree in which you completed courses in an analytical and quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Finance, Economics, Math)

Context:

Power IS covers the IS landscape for all Power short term activities within Gems, ie business activities handled from 1 week before delivery to physical delivery. This encompasses the generation of optimal production plans for the physical assets under Gems responsibility, trading on short term markets to sell the energy produced, physical steering of the assets, and communication with Power grid operators (TSOs) and regulators for nomination and transparency processes.

Power IS teams (~100p between Paris and Brussels) are responsible for the maintenance and evolution of the IS systems needed by business to support these activities.

The newly created team Industrial connectivity is aligned to BP Trading power and BP Spaas for their short term activities, and focuses on Industrial connectivity to physical assets, enabling realtime steering of Power production assets.

Role:

The position reports to the head of Power IS and will cover the following activities:

  • build and maintain the technical services steering Engie’s owned assets with the biggest power production capacity (Thermal plants, Hydro plants, Offshore wind parks) – Scada technology
  • build and maintain the technical services steering the Demand Supply Management (Kiwi technology)
  • steer the connectivity strategy, in particular when it comes to dealing with external partners for assets connectivity (Emsys, Krakenflex).
  • Participate to the contracts establishment with these external partners on the IS area. In run, ensure that the service is correctly delivered by these external partners IS-wise (SLA, security, …)

The scope of these services is NWE as a primary focus (BE/FR/NL/GE), with the ambition to extend to Europe in the future (UK, IT, Spain) with local resources.

What You’ll Bring

  • You should have at least an Associate’s degree in Business Administration or a related discipline, where you studied business principles, management, and marketing, to meet the expectations for this role
  • A minimum of five (5) years of Business Administartion, Retail energy or Direct sales experiecne
  • You have familiarity with direct sales within the retail energy industry
  • You demonstrate persuasive communication, effective negotiation skills, and the ability to interact with executive-level decision-makers
  • You are a self-driven individual capable of quickly learning new products, processes, and systems
  • You demonstrate the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy, allowing for a mix of remote work and in-office presence
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 15% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record for travel and car rentals
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $96,100 – $147,000 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

 

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors. 

 

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an incentive plan.
