What You Can Expect

The Development Associate position will support the Project Development Team with a broad range of pre-construction development activities related to ENGIE’s portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects across the United States and Canada.

 

  • The Development Associate will work closely with land and greenfield teams, interconnection experts, as well as pre-construction, engineering and project delivery departments, and other aspects of wind, solar and storage project development to actively drive utility scale development activities from feasibility to construction.
  • Manage all aspects of environmental site assessment, permitting, transmission/interconnection, land acquisition, and design activities in close collaboration with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in the functional groups
  • Engage consultants, review their findings, and ensure implementation of project goals
  • Manage agency, Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) submittals, permit application preparations, interactions on local and state level, and attend public permitting hearings
  • Develop project model underwriting assumptions in alignment with investment criteria and off-take origination efforts. Support energy offtake, financing, and project Merger and Acquisition (M&A) discussions and document preparation. Prepare investment presentation materials for ENGIE investment committees and review project pro forma financial models to understand how returns are impacted
  • Engage with landowners and stakeholders to keep them informed throughout the development process, including attending community engagement events
  • Maintain database tracking project progress
  • Remain abreast of tax incentives, renewable energy opportunities in the United States and the national industry trends impacting the future of renewable development opportunities and their competitiveness as they relate to customers 

 

 

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental, Business Administration or Economics 
  • Minimum two (2) years related experience, in renewable energy development or other fields of project development with the ability to navigate permitting processes and community involvement
  • Skilled in project management with the ability to multi-task and prioritize critical path tasks
  • Results oriented professional with the ability to work well with geographic, cross functional internal teams, public officials/agencies, and land owners, in a fast paced environment who is a self starter, with excellent collaboration skills, capable of working constructively and maintaining good relationships with public officials, agencies, and land owners

Compensation

Salary Range: $74,500 – $114,195 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

We are currently building out our Project Development Team's pipeline of candidates across the United States for furture projects. As a Project Development Associate you will be responsible for the development of utility scale battery storage projects across CAISO, MISO, and/or ERCOT.

 

Every day in this role you will be supporting development efforts on portions of the Company’s ~9 GW of existing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in electricity markets (CAISO, ERCOT, MISO), greenfield development, and project acquisition in energy storage and renewable energy development. You will communicate complex development situations to leadership and internal groups, and work through development issues from the start of development through construction. You will travel as needed for siting, development, and commercial activities to keep development on track.

 

  • Responsible for supporting permitting, site control, interconnection matters, power marketing, design/EPC, financing, and other matters critical to the development of energy storage projects 
  • Analyze and manage information flow relevant to project development from internal subject matter experts and external consultants/vendors
  • Ownership of project inputs/assumptions and coordinating updates with respective internal groups
  • Manage project level progress, risks, opportunities, and economics while providing thoughtful analysis and risk evaluation
  • Prioritize allocation of resources based on a deep understanding of schedule dependencies and financial impacts
  • Stay up-to-date with the current state of the energy storage market, including regulatory and competitive matters, to help the business make informed development decisions
  • Track project progress through key development milestones, managing schedules and budgets, and coordinating across disciplines within the Company 
  • Support and manage due diligence activities for acquisitions
  • Support negotiation of lease/purchase options and agreements for site control
  • Coordinate engineering activities in pursuit of permits and as required for interconnection matters
  • Work closely with engineering team in support of design and EPC process

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in which you have learned business administration, sales, marketing, engineering, finance, regulator, planning, project management skills
  • A minimum of 2 years of energy sector work experience required with a minimum 1 year of experience in energy storage or renewable energy development, with experience in project management, permitting, offtake negotiation interconnection, planning, real estate, and other matters critical to development 
  • Demonstrated success and experience developing utility scale energy storage and/or renewable energy projects with the ability to evaluate development status and efficiently inform critical decision making with management
  • Detailed understanding of the CAISO, ERCOT, and/or MISO market with particular focus on interconnection, regulatory and offtake matters. Familiarity with relevant state, county and city codes, procedures and regulations required by local planning and building departments
  • Experience preparing, negotiating, and closing commercial agreements including development agreements, site control agreements, consulting and service agreements, interconnection, and power sales agreements, etc.
  • Ability to manage a large workload across a large portfolio, while prioritizing tasks and effectively managing competing deadlines

We are currently looking to pipeline Project Management Director level candidates for future projects, you will lead the development on of Green Hydrogen projects in the North America from feasibility to start of construction.   • Lead the definition of the project’s procurement and contracting strategy, and management of the project’s procurement activities (tender documents, tendering, negotiation, contracting and invoicing)
  • Lead the definition of contracting and execution strategy, TIC estimates and master scheduling, negotiation of Engineering Procurement Construction (M) and engineering/consulting contracts; support negotiations of the Supply, Offtake or other type of contracts
  • Prepare and coordinate the technical hand-over to the Project Delivery team at project final investment decision  
  • Structure and budget the operation and maintenance of the project, inclusive of staffing and mobilization plan, interfaces with Operations & Maintenance vendor, Operations & Maintenance  agreements, KPIs, pricing structure and carry out other duties as assigned

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering

What You Can Expect

The Project Management Senior Advisor will be a part of ENGIE’s Central Capital Projects Team based at Georgetown University’s campus. This position is responsible for the planning, development and execution of large and critical capital improvement projects related to the utility infrastructure systems at Georgetown University. These systems encompass the production and distribution of chilled water, heating hot water, and steam, along with the electricity and natural gas networks. The Senior Advisor will have overall responsibility, risk-management, and accountability of the large project.


 

Daily, you will manage the project team including internal staff and external consultants with the functions required to deliver a large industrial project on time, on budget, and without health, safety, environmental, and public relations issues. You will lead construction contractors, qualified equipment vendors, suppliers, and design/engineering firms to ensure successful completion of the project as well as overseeing the design and construction contracts of heating and cooling distributions replacement, and in-building equipment retrofit with assistance from legal counsel and contracts administrators. You’ll follow and improve ENGIE’s project management and reporting processes through all phases of project development and execution. You will liaise and coordinate all design, construction and commissioning activities with related ENGIE and Georgetown University staff. Other duties include managing scope, schedule, budget forecasts, resource requirements, risk registers, and other components of the project. You are flexible and adjust to changing business and project conditions. You develop and present alternative solutions to problems, and recommend a course of action to maintain project scope, schedule, and budget. You measure project performance relying on KPI’s for engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and start-up and report monthly, identifying variances and taking corrective actions to achieve project objectives. You will hire consultants, external contractors, and internal employees to successfully complete this project and provide regular reports to ENGIE management and summary reports to Georgetown University. You provide lateral and direct management to ENGIE employees supporting the projects; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with all state, local, and university entities.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree in which you have gained a foundation of Project Management skills, business communication, and effective leadership.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of proven experience in project management of large campus utility infrastructure projects or similar industrial construction projects
  • Expert level acumen in financial and contractual aspects of capital projects in addition to technical and organizational structures
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and are able to engage professionally with all stakeholders including Georgetown University faculty and students as well as staff, contractors and government agencies
  • Highly adept at multi-tasking and utilizing problem solving and critical thinking skills to manage project risks

The position will have primary focus on both the preparation and management of contract bidding, and associated pre-construction phase activities, while also directing Contract negotiations and making recommendation to the ENGIE Leadership team for contract awards. Following successful placement of contracts, the Director of Preconstruction will take accountability for the handover and effective legacy support to the Director of Delivery ensuring ultimately the delivery of safe, timely, cost effective and class leading renewable energy projects. 

 

  • Successful execution of this position requires clear and consistent coordination of multiple project stakeholders including developers, contractors, vendors, owners, and financing partners. The Director of Pre-Construction must have exceptional project management skills and possess the ability to successfully lead a project team through challenging problems.  The Director of Pre-Construction will also manage a team of six direct reports.
  • Project management services, coordination, and support for large and complex wind, solar, and storage projects during the pre-construction phase of the project
  • Liaise with project development teams to support and coordinate earlier project engagement and coordination efforts to support ease of transition into delivery phase
  • Support and provide delivery expertise and oversight around engineering design and permitting efforts
  • Direct, control and manage adequate resourcing plans to support the delivery of all preconstruction deliveries for renewable energy projects as required

  • Direct and manage commercial aspects of all project related contract negotiations

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically 30% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips

Compensation

Salary Range: $112,000 – $172,500 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan.
