What You Can Expect

As the Process Safety Advisor, located in Houston, TX, you will contribute to the development and implementation of a Health and Safety (H&S) Management System. This system will incorporate standards of excellence, programs, policies, procedures, and processes (4Ps) for ENGIE's North America Flexible Generation (FlexGen). Your role will emphasize supporting the FlexGen Business Development, Project Delivery, and Operations teams in all facets of Process Safety Management.

 

Reporting to the Director of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) your primary duties encompass:

  • Ensure that Process Safety Principles and best practices are implemented early in the design phase of each project
  • Define process safety deliverables required for the scope of the project and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare the safety related scope of work for the engineering contractors for the feasibility engineering
  • Oversee process safety studies (generally Safety Concept and Consequence Modeling)
  • Proactively participate in studies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, SIL) and project technical reviews, monitor, follow up on, and assess agreed recommendations to ensure full implementation
  • Interpret all regulatory requirements and ensure that the appropriate studies are identified and developed during the project phases in a timely manner
  • Liaise with the client / partner in terms of permitting support and interfaces in relation with safety aspects
  • Undertake risk assessment to determine whether safeguards are adequate to mitigate hazards (SIL, LOPA, Fault Tree etc.)
  • Prepare and evaluate the HSE prequalification questionnaires and to support the bid assessment processes
  • Prepare the safety aspects of Request For Quotes (RFP)
  • Track progress on projects ensuring that deliverables are undertaken in a timely manner and at the required quality
  • Interpret and make recommendations based on findings of Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), Fire and Explosion studies or similar to ensure that the findings can meet the requirement by the regulatory authorities of the country
  • Ensure that a risk based approach is undertaken to the development of the project
  • Produce/validate studies performed prior to submission to authorities for the permitting process

 

 

  • Project Transversal support (Post FID)
  • Oversight of the EPC Contractors / Owner engineers
  • Liaison with the partners / clients / external stakeholders
  • Prepare, direct or participate in HSE process and safety studies + risk assessments undertaken for commissioning, start up and operation of the projects
  • Support for the Operations and safety Manual
  • Management of safety related training
  • Preparation of Emergency Response Plans

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in design, process safety, construction and/or operations in a corporate environment or affiliate within the energy or process industry
  • Possesses a strong to excellent understanding of operational safety
  • You have a wide experience in HSE, Process safety and Risk Management / Strategy, developing HSE culture, safety technical engineering, construction, operations and decommissioning, Quality Management and ISO accreditation
  • Demonstrate effective understanding and application of Safety Regulations and Requirements appropriate to the industry and geographical areas, with a willingness to broaden your knowledge and scope on an additional technology such as Battery storage
  • Demonstrate understanding and application of process safety principles in reducing asset and public risk
  • Demonstrate understanding and experience of incident investigation and implementation of lessons learnt, ideally have an understanding of TapRoot RCA philosophies
  • Demonstrates direct influence on process safety culture and possesses analytical thinking skills

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 50% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Occasional travel outside the US may be required

Compensation

Salary Range: $96,100 – $147,660 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

As the Senior Battery Engineer you will be responsible for leading battery energy storage system (BESS) project design development and the associated project execution engineering support functions. The goals of this position are to continue the development of energy storage power plant design standards, ensure current projects in construction and the development pipeline meet technical and business requirements while maintaining our long-term ownership focus.   • Every day, you will ensure the highest level of environmental health and safety (EHS) is incorporated in all electrical engineering and design aspects of BESS projects. You will also serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for energy storage design & engineering
  • Develop and enhance BESS technical specifications for battery enclosures, storage inverters, auxiliary power equipment, and BESS supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system
  • Leading BESS fire protection and safety code compliance reviews Review project specific power purchase agreement (PPA) requirements and develop engineering procurement construction (EPC) technical exhibits
  • Support BESS construction and commissioning to address engineering issues
  • Responsible for selection of electrical engineering consultants when needed to support BESS projects and manage their activities to ensure consistent criteria, cost effective designs and timely delivery
  • Work as the main liaison internally between different stakeholders/ business units- engineering, project development, procurement, to ensure seamless execution of projects
  • Establish and maintain the engineering requirements for all future BESS projects
  • Work collaboratively with the development and procurement teams in sizing and optimizing energy storage systems and augmentation

Within the Project Delivery team, your office serves as the central hub for ensuring process and deliverable consistency across all projects. You will oversee a project support staff focused on enhancing efficiency, upholding standards, implementing essential tools, and fostering continuous improvement. Your role is an integral component of our Project Delivery organization, charged with promoting best practices, standardizing tools, facilitating support resources, and disseminating lessons learned to boost productivity and elevate the quality of our projects.

 

  • Reporting to the Vice President, Project Delivery, your primary duties encompass:
  • Leads a core project support staff consisting of the project software administrator (Procore), scheduling experts, analysts and/or assistant project managers
  • Manages the day-to-day activities and workload of the PMO staff in support of battery energy storage projects and the Project Delivery team’s objectives
  • Coordinates and liaises with ENGIE’s and the Business Unit’s Industrial Project Oversight, Investment Oversight, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, and other functional teams
  • Hires, trains, and develops the PMO staff; develops staffing plans to support the PMO and Project Delivery team objectives
  • Designs and manages a rotational training program to support battery energy storage projects and project manager/staff development within the business unit
  • Develops and improves, with input from the greater Project Delivery and business unit teams, process to support “industrialization” of project delivery and management, including development and maintenance of the associated process diagrams
  • Develops, implements, and monitors critical Project Delivery KPIs using dashboards and analysis of data maintained in our management information systems including Procore, Coups, and SAP
  • Develops, maintains, and improves template documents used to manage projects such as Project Management Plans, Risk Registers, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, Project Schedules, WBS structures, and periodic reports with the support of ENGIE group policies, procedures, guidance, and existing templates
  • Supports ENGIE’s One Safety Culture by ensuring all ENGIE safety requirements are properly included in project template documents and processes; leads and exhibits a high level of safety awareness and concern
  • Carries out other duties as assigned

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering or related technical discipline required
  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in physical/construction project management
  • Experience with hydrogen production by electrolysis, natural gas processing, and/or other chemical process related projects
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills with a proven ability to manage and lead multi-discipline teams
  • The ability to be flexible and adjust to changing business and project conditions, develop and present alternative solutions to problems, and recommend a course of action to achieve Project Delivery and PMO objectives

As the Director of Interconnection will be responsible for managing the interconnection and grid integration process to support the company's overall development and operational goals across the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). Focus will be on the Company’s existing ~10 GW pipeline of utility scale stand-alone energy storage projects in ERCOT, as well as new project analysis. You will be responsible for transmission-related topics including tariffs, planning, technical evaluation, contract negotiations and the overall interconnection process through the full life cycle of development and construction of projects.

 

Every day in this role you will be responsible for managing the interconnection process and monitor key milestones throughout the lifecycle of the project from early-stage development to commercial operation.

 

  • Coordinate, review and interpret interconnection and transmission studies performed by utilities and outside consultants
  • Function as main liaison with project developers, and third-party consultants, on matters relating to interconnection to provide technical insight and business solutions to reduce interconnection cost and remove obstacles to project development
  • Perform/manage analysis to predict interconnection capacity, deliverability, and other key parameters to support project development and have experience with load flow modeling and analyses
  • Conduct due-diligence review for potential interconnection and transmission risks related to potential projects, portfolio acquisitions, and commercial transactions; provide recommendations to the acquisition team
  • Perform transmission assessments and policy reviews to forecast future system conditions and determine commercial viability to support development and construction activities
  • Negotiation of contractual agreements with utilities
  • Collaborate with engineering team in optimizing project’s engineering design in support of grid integration requirements 
  • Represent the Company to establish and maintain productive relationships with key utility and MISO personnel, industry groups, regulators and other stakeholders on issues related to transmission and interconnection
  • Monitor regional transmission planning process and interconnection policy changes; participate as stakeholder in transmission and market-related regulatory activities as necessary with collaboration with the Company’s regulatory and development teams
  • Review utility transmission planning reports and present findings to the Company
  • Provide technical support for project development and acquisition activities in the evaluation of transmission system and planning issues
  • Actively monitor the progress of required system upgrades and identify creative mitigation solutions to support development of projects

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Ensure the reliable operation of ENGIE renewable assets, to include maintaining continual communication with on-site personnel and Asset Managers
  • Implement and coordinate ENGIE asset outages as needed to support preventive and corrective maintenance
