What You Can Expect

ENGIE North America is searching for a Utility Performance Engineering Intern. This role is based on campus at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.  Engie currently collects real-time data from thousands of process points from the utility and building automation systems on the University of Iowa campus. This information is vital to maintaining the efficient operation of the University’s utilities.

 

Daily, you will use real-time and historical data to drive efficiency improvements and cost savings for the campus utility system which provides steam, electricity, chilled water, water and sewer services. Most of this data is collected using the PI System software which connects to control systems at the campus Power Plant, Chilled Water Plants, Water Plant and Electrical Distribution Systems as well as real-time metering for steam, electricity, chilled water and water meters at approximately 90 buildings. This data is used to populate real-time graphical displays as well as being stored long-term for analyses and reporting. 

 

Reporting to the Utility Performance Engineer, This position will split time working in the Power Plant and at the Energy Control Center located in The University Services Building (USB).

 

Hours are flexible but this person should average 10-15 hours/week during the hours of 7 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday.

  • Build replicas of automation displays linked to live data using PI Vision software.  Add and update tag in the PI System. Design reports using PI Datalink add-in to Excel
  • Assist with any other data entry or reporting as necessary 
  • Assist in the preparation of performance improvement reports, testing plans, and procedure updates 
  • Assist Operations, Engineering, or Management with gathering data and putting together trends to support studies, projects, or operational needs
  • Other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring

  • You must be currently enrolled at the University of Iowa in Engineering or Computer Science programs or pathways
  • You have completed course work in thermodynamics and other energy related courses
  • You have experience performing basic energy calculations and analyses
  • You have a willingness and ability to learn the basics of utility plant systems  
  • Experience using PI Vision and PI Datalink
  • Willingness and ability to learn PI AF System, PI System Explorer software and the PI Builder add-in to Excel

Compensation

What You Can Expect

Our Site Administrator I will be working with ENGIE’s Water Plant Operations and Maintenance Team and will report to the Water Plant Manager. This position is located at the University Of Iowa Campus in Iowa City, IA. 

 

The schedule offered is 7:00am – 3:30pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday-Friday.

 

  • Every day you will be working with our water distribution, and plant personnel.  You will be responsible for generating purchase orders to vendors, and assisting with the expediating, delivery and close out of purchase orders. You will be using a computerized maintenance system (CMMS) to assign materials to work orders. Other frequent tasks include assisting with onboarding/ offboarding employees, scheduling training, and maintaining certifications for staff, purchasing of uniforms.   
  • You will maintain and monitor inventory, process invoices and purchase orders. You will be assisting the Plant Manager with cost and procurement controls, budget preparation and review, resolution of billing, vendor management, reports and correspondence preparation. You will also serve as a member of the local safety committee. 
  • Additional tasks include, Production of documents and reports as requested by operational leaders.  Completing data entry for customer billing, and supervising Interns data entry assignments. Maintaining routine plant operating logs and reports.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum education of  a High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of administrative or other relevant experience involving, purchasing, inventory or data entry
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative and secretarial functions
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Application suite
  • Ability to create clear and concise correspondence suitable for customers, Senior Leadership and other stakeholders
  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance System (CMMS). we use Maximo
  • Ability to use analytical judgment to plan and perform diversified work, making decisions within prescribed limitations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and take direction from others.
  • Compliance with training / regulatory requirements

Every day you will participate in engineering design review for utility-scale renewable energy projects (wind, solar, and energy storage). You will attend multi-discipline team meetings to further your understanding of different engineering disciplines and attend site visits to support design reviews, construction review and commissioning activities as needed. You will also learn about different technical aspects of a project (Protection Relays, SCADA, Substations, Transmission, Underground Collection).

What You Can Expect

The Grid-Scale Renewables GIS team is responsible for spatial data management, visualization, and analysis in support of ENGIE North America’s utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage platform. The Application Development Intern will play a critical role in the renewables development process by supporting our existing backend applications and helping to develop new tools for the team. As the Application Development Intern, you can expect to gain applied database management experience, exposure to and familiarity with an advanced ESRI Enterprise environment, and an understanding of wind, solar, and battery storage project development.

 

 

  • SQL server data management and analysis using TSQL and Python
  • ArcGIS Enterprise content management using Python script
  • Develop custom solutions for desktop and web platforms using JavaScript, Python, and/or C#
  • Optimize and enhance existing applications to improve system performance and capacity
  • Support existing web mapping platform, including development web applications, construction trackers, and interactive dashboards

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Must be at least a junior or senior working toward an undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering or related field

  • Strong technical background with analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle – designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining tools and applications
  • Ability and interest in learning new technologies and adapting quickly to new requirements
  • Proficiency in Python or C#
  • Proficiency in relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server and with Windows operating system
  • Nice to have: Software Version Control (Git, Bitbucket, TFS), Web Development (JavaScript, React, HTML, CSS, Dojo)
  • GIS background and experience with GIS systems (ESRI products) a plus
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must have the ability to think analytically, present ideas professionally, and work in project teams
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy

 

 

Additional Details

  • The internship work term will be from January 2025 to May 2025
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy

Compensation

Hourly Range:  $24.00 - $28.00 USD hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Intern to join our accounting team. The internship work term will be from January 2025 – May 2025, full-time/par-time work schedule working up to 40 hours per week.

 

As the intern in Houston, you will assist in the mapping process and gain hands-on experience in month-end closing activities and key accounting principles. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start their career in accounting and finance.

 

  • Support the accounting team in month-end closing activities, including reconciliations and journal entries
  • Assist in the mapping process to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Learn and apply key accounting principles and practices
  • Help assist in prepare financial statements and reports
  • Participate in audits and ensure compliance with internal controls
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary information for analysis
  • Review Balance sheet reconciliation and prepare summary of risk
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager

As our Intern in Integration & Transformation Project Management, you will gain experience in supporting various projects, including post-acquisition integrations of companies acquired by ENGIE North America, divestitures, and internal transformation initiatives. This internship opportunity is based in Houston, TX, and spans three months, from January 2025 to May 2025. You will report to the Head of Integration & Transformation.
