What You Can Expect

As a Power Grid Modeling and Forecasting Analyst in Houston, you will report to Power Congestion Trading Director, you will develop long term grid scenarios and forecast nodal price curves using production cost modeling tools.

 

  • Execute production cost models by systematically analyzing and updating the inputs as appropriate
  • Propose, prepare and execute appropriate scenario studies pertinent to the period of study and systematically analyzing the results under the guidance of the Advisor
  • Develop systematic and repeatable approach to analyze and form fundamental views with respect to macro-trends
  • Analyze and determine drivers of Day Ahead and Real Time congestion market outcomes based on macro-fundamentals (supply, demand, renewables) and micro-fundamentals (specific transmission and generation outage impacts, bids, facility limits)
  • Identify model gaps by calibrating the model results to market outcomes and determine appropriate solutions
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to the enhance fundamental trading
  • Participate in Independent System Operator (ISO) meetings as appropriate and assess commercial impacts
  • Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve relevant tools
  • Develop and maintain dispatch and flow models, communicating fundamental developments and views to stakeholders
  • Build models to track market fundamentals and regularly benchmark against actualizations

Compensation

Salary Range: $67,500 – $108,554 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE Global Energy Management and Sales (GEMS) is responsible for managing the portfolio of gas, electricity, congestion revenues rights and environmental products for ENGIE, across geographies. More recently, GEMS has extended his scope to also manage all the market risks (energy, congestion, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), ancillaries) generated by the Renewable and Battery Storage Assets owned by ENGIE North America, which includes wind farms, solar farms, and storage units. The Power Portfolio Management team is precisely the group in charge of these activities.

 

The Battery Storage Portfolio Management group is the commercial operations management team responsible for energy storage optimization, analytics, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) modeling & financial management of the energy storage portfolio within the Engie Global Energy Management & Supply group. We are looking for an optimization engineer with a software development background to join our Energy Storage team.

 

As applications of energy storage resources continue to proliferate and evolve, our formulation of storage economics & objectives needs continual refinement to reflect this evolution. As the Senior Optimization & Analytics Advisor, you will report to Head of Battery Storage Modelling and you will formulate these new objectives, develop optimization methods, and collaborate with the team to maximize BESS revenue streams. You will also take the lead in the formulation of the priorities for the software development team dedicated to the Battery Portfolio Management group. 

 

You will be responsible for design, development & implementation of automated software solutions for monetizing energy storage & other market participation models by leveraging their knowledge and experience in mathematical programming, predictive analytics, power systems engineering along with the capability to software engineer the solution to leverage software platform technologies including cloud computing, distributed computing, numerical solver methods, and data storage infrastructures.

 

You will be interacting with asset managers, traders, facility operators, and risk managers to develop financial and operational algorithms/models that support trading & asset optimization decisions. You will work closely with GEMS IT development team to leverage your experience in data science and our expertise in electricity market fundamentals to optimize trade support products, perform performance benchmarking and stress testing of designed products, and ensure compliance of products to market rules and transactional requirements.

 

  • Develop algorithmic product solutions for physical & virtual assets Implement production grade mathematical code with performance benchmarking and unit testing to verify and validate outcomes
  • Determine key performance indicators for algorithmic products and contributes to monitoring and iterative product improvement
  • Implement optimization models for short-term operation and long-term valuation of battery storage resources
  • Work closely with IT development team to determine the data storage/access design best fit battery trade/operation
  • Prepare functional specification document to IT development team to industrialize proof of concept programs by Battery Storage Portfolio Management group
  • Provide constructive insights as product owner during the technical solution selection of the GEMS battery software platform
  • Prepare code documentation, technical reports, quantitative analyses, and presentation material for internal and external use
  • Implement forecasting and optimization models for operation and valuation of renewable resources and battery storage
  • Support collaborations in cross-functional workstreams

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in which you completed courses in Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent combined education and work experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience developing analytics and/or optimization workflows
  • Experience with optimization modeling packages & commercial solvers such as PYOMO, CVXPY, or solver APIs (e.g. Gurobi, Cplex, Xpress)

  • Lead Bid Processes: Evaluate requests for bids, lead bid strategy, and manage a team for bid preparation, competitive analysis, and participation in procurement processes. Prepare proposals and presentation materials for customers and buyers
  • Negotiate and Close Deals: Seek opportunities for bilateral transactions, negotiate terms and conditions of power sale agreements, and drive transactions toward closure. Lead internal approvals throughout the bid process, including presenting to the renewables leadership committee

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration Finance, Economics, Science, Engineering, or related field of study where you have learned contracts, negotiations, business administration, or similar based program
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in energy industry; preferably in renewable energy with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in power origination

As the High Voltage Senior Technician based in Houston, TX, you will maintain and support the electrical system performance of our fleet of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the United States. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring ENGIE’s high-voltage systems operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with industry-leading standards. You will maintain and repair ENGIE’s fleet of BESS Substations and BESS Balance of Plant (BOP) electrical systems, ensuring their compliance with the International Electrical Testing Association Maintenance Testing Specifications (NETA-MTS), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and North American Electric Reliability Corporation Protection and Control (NERC PRC-005C) standards. You will also verify the commissioning of these systems in alignment with International Electrical Testing Association Acceptance Testing Specifications (NETA-ATS), manufacture specifications, and regulatory requirements.

 

Reporting to the High Voltage Program Manager, your primary responsibilities encompass:

  • Maintain and repair high-voltage equipment, including transformers, breakers, switchgear, cables, and associated BESS systems, ensuring adherence to company maintenance procedures, industry standards, and safety guidelines
  • Verify the commissioning of high-voltage systems in alignment with NETA-ATS standards, collaborating with third-party contractors and external teams during the construction and commissioning phases of new projects
  • Troubleshoot and resolve faults in high-voltage electrical systems, applying innovative solutions to solve complex problems and minimize downtime
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure maintenance and commissioning tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and within established timelines
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and commissioning activities, generate detailed reports for internal stakeholders, and update computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) as required
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, including NFPA 70E, OSHA standards, IEEE safety guidelines, and NETA safety procedures, fostering a culture of safety excellence

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Proficiency in testing and maintenance of critical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switchgear, capacitors, voltage regulators, and various substation components
  • Experienced in the commissioning and integration of SCADA systems, with basic PLC troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to perform cable repairs and welding; advantageous for maintaining high-voltage systems
  • Knowledge of UPS systems, including substation batteries and chargers
  • Proficient in LOTO procedures, arc flash protection, and adherence to NFPA 70E safety standards
