We are currently looking for a Quants Data Scientist for our GEMS Iberia team in Madrid.

 

Scope of the job
•    Support business development team with valuation of new products
•    Support commercial teams with pricing tools. 
•    Support portfolio managers with representation of risk factors and hedging strategies
•    Optimisation under constraints of physical assets: batteries, hydro, CCGTs, wind, PV…
•    Pricing exotic derivatives in imperfect markets. 
•    Create decision support tools (prototype) with adequate documentation and version control.  
•    Support short term and trading teams in gas and power price modelling
•    Create a network of collaboration with other quant and data scientist teams in Engie GEMS. 
 

Profile requirements

Relevant studies (minum MSc):
•    Financial mathematics, Operations research, Computer science, Statistics and Mathematics
•    Deep learning and advanced analytics
•    Any other study (ie. Engineers) complemented with very strong mathematics education or professional experience.
 
Relevant Experience: 
•    Worked in energy Markets, or relevant experience with other commodities. 
•    Post-doc in energy markets or other with applicability to this job. 
•    Supported trading teams in the past. 
 
Skills:
•    Basic market analysis
•    Good presentation skills, for non-quantitative audience. Clear and effective communication both written and verbal; ability to explain and convey messages about complex issues and models.
•    Critical thinking to interpret, evaluate, and communicate complex information.
•    Good coding skills: Python. Other: R, Julia

What You Can Expect

As the IT Director for Pre- Trade Applications in Houston, Texas for ENGIE’s global Energy Management & Sales you will collaborate with IT leadership in managing all the applications dedicated to enabling the Trading teams to make decisions for power & gas commodity trading and facilitate algorithmic trading. You will be required to deliver and manage critical pre-trade applications and related projects utilizing IT standards and best practices with your team to support the business, deliver results, and apply effective IT project management methodology at the Leadership Team level.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, mathematics or related technical field
  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in a trading environment
  • Expertise in MS Azure including Azure services & AWS architectures
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python / C# / SQL
  • Expertise in Financial Markets with knowledge of the Energy Industry being beneficial to the role
  • Proven experience directly managing the aspects of the IT strategy including implementation of solutions to support Trading Automation and Algorithmic Trading leveraging MS Azure and AWS technologies
  • Strong aptitude and ability to coordinate and track developments with the application teams for data integration, such as ETRM systems, ISO Market Systems, SCADA, fundamentals, and data warehouses
  • Previous experience assisting traders with building pricing models
  • Be a trusted advisor for business and technology teams as a go-to for all technology related matters, supported by your team of experts
  • Previous experience managing budgets and resources for teams and initiatives
  • Leadership experience supervising IT staff supporting front office task
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and project management standards to contribute to best practices

Compensation

Salary Range: $146,300 – $224,135 USD annually

 

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Context:

The GEM Finance division is hiring a Business Controller who will work on the perimeter of the Business Platform “BP Clients” in Brussels. He will join a bi-localized team - the FinOps BP Clients team – composed of Business Controllers covering the Group’s key account activities in Europe.

The Finance and Operations (FinOps) “BP Clients” team has the responsibility to monitor the P&L of the “BP Clients” Business Platform – part of GEMS entity – and ensure a correct reporting of its results end of month.

Part of GEMS, the BP Client’s role is to guarantee the physical sourcing in gas and electricity of ENGIE’s key accounts. It has also a major component of market access activities which are reported linked or not to our key account activities.

This open position primarily focuses on both power and Gas related activities in Netherlands, including:
the purchase and sale of electricity contracts and the management of power imbalances.

Sourcing of gas for key accounts
Purchase of hedging products (forward contracts, options, weather derivatives) relating to the gas supply activity
Green product management
CFFO analysis (consolidation and production)

In this position, there is a strong emphasis on financial analysis, process improvement, and automation, which are essential for optimizing our operational efficiency enhance efficiency and accuracy in our operations.

Role:

The role encompasses two distinct responsibilities:

  • A role of "Business Controller", focusing on monthly financial closures, budget exercises, results consolidation, process optimization, and cash flow analysis and optimization.
  • A role of "Middle-Officer", focusing on the monitoring of the Front-Office generated PnL .

You will be actively contributing to the Daily reporting of the PnL:

  • Explain and validate the PnL with the Front-Office on a daily basis,
  • Provide a bridge to Accounting figures

You will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • In charge of calculating the Turnover Accruals with validation the Customer Journey Team and work on the automatization of this process.
  • Calculate the Imbalances (at a 15min granularity) for all not invoiced months and working with Digital Team to have an automated process.
  • Validate the Imbalance calculations performed by ATS.

You will be actively contributing to the Monthly closing of accounts:

  • Control of postings sent to SAP by you or the accounting teams.
  • Reconciliation, investigation and correction of interco and inter-oc breaks
  • Control of consistency between economic P&L and accounting P&L: building of eco-accounting bridge and investigation of unexplained deltas with support of the country referent.
  • Provide report to administration and auditors
  • Report and follow closing issues while providing transversal solution and optimized tools.
  • Work closely with Belgium and French controllers to build-up back-up solution and standard processes
  • Follow-up of the cash position (BFR) and analysis
  • Validate the consistency of the figures through the business understanding

Preparation of Monthly Business Reviews:

  • Provide timely, accurate, validated and relevant information and business reporting
  • Analysis of YTD results, N-1 results, Month to Month variations and Best Estimates through several Key Financial Indicators (S-P, Cash Flows, WCR) with the contribution of Front-Office and our Digital tools (PBI)
  • Provide value-added analysis on the Margin PnL Breakdown (using PBI)
  • Be accountable of the quality of the data in SAP and in the different PBIs related to your scope as well as the Deal to SAP process including new contract setup.

Mid-Term Plan process conduction: validation and challenge of business assumptions.

Digitalization and change management:

  • Support the uniformization of BP Clients closing
  • Propose enhancement of process and automation of tools where relevant

Deal to invoice support:

  • Support the invoicing team while creating and following the new contracts in the system

Development support for new activities

Reply to all ad-hoc request related to your scope of activity

The methodology and collaboration:

The methodology of work that Finops BP Clients follows is called Continuous Improvement. In that sense, you are expected for each problem, to do a rootcause analysis, define corrective actions and follow-up their implementations.

To fulfill your missions, you will work in close collaboration with Front-Office teams and have regular contacts with Back-Office, Accountings, and Risks teams. You will notably have to:

  • Handle accounting topics relating to products used for market finance such as hedges, options, etc.
  • Understand the energy supply chain of gas and Green certificates
  • Work on trading oriented system (Orchestrade)
  • Deeply work on the SAP setup or in any update on the deal-to-invoice chain

Context:

You will join the Trading Surveillance team within the Risk Expertise Center.

This transversal team is composed of 8 analysts monitoring GEMS trading activity worldwide (except the US-based one) on all traded commodities. The team is in charge of designing, developing, operating trading surveillance solutions on a daily basis and managing processes to comply with the regulations concerning market abuse and algorithmic trading, in collaboration with other functions (mainly Legal, Compliance, Front-Office).

 

This is a Singapore-based position, with some very punctual travels to other GEMS offices (mostly Tokyo, Melbourne, Paris/Brussels). However, you will be covering all GEMS activities, with a focus on Asia-Pacific activities.

 

 

 

 

Role:

 

  • Develop the global trading surveillance system that allows to integrate data (orders, trades, events, etc) on all trading platforms where GEMS operates and recognize, prevent and report suspicion of market manipulation. Create prototype alerts then industrialize them in the core big data surveillance tool with the support of a dedicated IS team.

 

  • Investigate/Escalate automated daily alerts and perform spot checks. Challenge front officers on their trading practices (Internal Request For Information or investigations).

 

  • Contribute to the awareness and guidelines on best practices considering regulatory developments and business changes, in close collaboration with Front-Officers, Legal and Compliance

 

  • Analyze and validate algorithmic trading tools and strategies and elaborate securities in relation with IS and business teams.

 

•   Collaborate with Legal/Compliance teams to bring analysis in case of external inquiries.

  • Prend en charge l’organisation du volet social et juridique de projets (nature des actions à déployer, calendrier…), en adéquation avec les obligations légales et les enjeux organisationnels et business posés,

Organisation, animation et coordination des relations sociales :

 

  • Propose le calendrier social annuel (planification des Instances de Représentation du Personnel, négociations sociales, projets d’entités, …), 
  • Programme et pilote la tenue des Instances de Représentation du Personnel (Comité Social et Économique, CSCCT…), en lien avec les différentes parties prenantes (managers, représentants de la direction, représentants du personnel, organisations syndicales, DRH, filière Santé et Sécurité…), 
  • Conduit les négociations sociales (accords d’entreprise,) en garantissant l’équilibre entre les besoins de l’entreprise et de ses salariés, et participe au suivi de la mise en œuvre des accords conclus, 
  • Contribue à la veille sociale de la BE/BU (climat social, …), assure le reporting Groupe sur les actualités sociales et contribue aux différents comités internes et externes de la fonction,

Context

 

Climate targets are becoming a very important point on the energy transition roadmap of our corporate clients, with many claims being made by 2030.

Within GEMS, the Carbon Desk and APAC Green Solutions Desk aim to develop joint upstream origination capabilities to originate high quality carbon offsets for our global portfolio and manage dynamically our positions to ensure carbon assets turnover.

The role will involve a double reporting line, to the head of carbon desk in Europe and to the head of APAC Green desk in Singapore.

 

 

 

 

Role & responsibilities

 

  • Develop relationships with reputable project developers in the APAC region
  • Structure & negotiate long term VERPA with innovative structures adding embedded optionalities in the portfolio in order to grow our network of developers and partners
  • Perform project due diligence to evaluate project risks and identify potential mitigants
  • Follow risk and governance framework to get deals validated and reach PnL targets
  • Collaborate with Trading and Downstream origination teams to develop & pitch structured product offers for their clients
  • Work with downstream origination team to analyze client needs, gather market intelligence and identify industry trends
  • Conduct thorough market research and analysis to inform trading strategies and decisions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key market stakeholders, including carbon exchanges, project developers, and brokers.

  • Strong knowledge of the carbon products and markets (project based carbon standards, technologies and project development processes and global carbon reporting standards (GHG protocol, ..)

Integrating the quantitative analyst team is a huge opportunity for you to work on financial modeling and IT development:

PRICING MODEL VALIDATION

 

  • Be in direct contact with traders, and pricing model designers to understand derivatives, and stochastic pricing models ;
