What You Can Expect

As our Utility Electrician II, at The Ohio State University, with the supervision of the High Voltage Manager & Supervisor, you will be responsible for performing duties as a highly skilled electrician in the installation, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of low, medium, and high voltage to 138,000-volt class electrical generation and distribution systems and equipment. You will report to the High Voltage Supervisor.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • You will have high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience; computer literacy

  • You have a minimum 10 years work experience as a commercial/ industrial electrician, including 6 years experience in installation and maintenance of 600V class electrical systems; Or 6 years experience in 15000-volt systems; 3 years of experience & ability to install and maintain troubleshoot/repair 5000 & 15000-volt class electrical systems
  • You have knowledge of basic principles of electricity and related terminology; an ability to read technical manuals, schematic wiring diagrams and volt-ohm-amp testers       
  • You will assist Utility Electrician III or High Voltage Electrician with operation, installation, removal, cleaning, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of 15,000 and 138,000-volt class equipment consisting of underground cable vaults, cable duels, cable racks, cables, splices, terminations, equipment grounding, surge arresters, switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, motors; assist with distribution system switching
  • You may serve as crew leader; instruct lower staff on work to be performed; assist in training other personnel
  • You will direct and inspect contractor work in the installation of permanent and temporary power sources, inspects and monitors new electrical construction work for design standard and electrical safety requirements; direct and perform preventive maintenance and overhaul of electrical equipment in utility plants
  • You will perform equipment lockout/tagout; uses test equipment (multi-amp, strobe lights, probe, megaohm meter, hi-pot) to remedy and prevent problems
  • You will overhaul motors and replace bearings; operate cranes and/or lift vehicles to move electrical equipment; maintain substation battery banks, wiring systems, annunciator panels,  3-phase meters and circuit protective relays
  • You will read blueprints, electrical diagrams, technical manuals; update drawings and schematics, and design equipment (e.g. transformer table, battery rack, star cart, etc.) to perform tasks; maintains records and reports, performs other related duties.
  • You will plan jobs, order materials, inspect and diagnosis cable and equipment faults; troubleshoot electrical units by reviewing blueprints and schematics in order to develop a remedy; work on and troubleshoot any ENGIE operated utility systems including plants and distribution
  • Other duties as assigned by management related to safe plant operations, maintenance, reliability, and training while fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; will drive company vehicle onsite

Compensation

Salary Range:  $38.50- $40.37 USD hourly

  • Je voert een divers pakket aan praktische taken uit die verband houden met het behandelen van radioactief afval afkomstig uit de centrales: betonneren en laden van afval, lossen van vloeistoffilters vanuit loodkasteel, ionenharsen van de waterzuivering behandelen, voorbereiding en sortering van divers afval voor verdere verwerking in het afvalproces en het dagelijkse beheer van het collimagazijn

What You Can Expect

As a Utility Plant Operator III (UPO III) at our University of Iowa location, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating power generation equipment that powers campus facilities, including the University Hospital. This equipment includes turbine generators, boilers, pumps, air compressors, conveying systems, fans, electric motors, ash conveying systems, control valves, and mobile equipment.

 

Each day begins with a handoff from the previous shift to understand the current operating status of the plant and tasks to be completed. The primary task of a UPO III involves the safe operation of the plant's turbines. You will conduct hourly rounds, monitoring pressures, checking for leaks or abnormalities, and starting and stopping turbines as needed. Additional responsibilities include monitoring pressure reducing valves, completing logs at the end of the shift, and performing weekly preventive maintenance (PM) during day shifts. We currently operate three steam generators and four natural gas-powered generators. Communication of pertinent information among shift members, production support personnel, maintenance, and management is facilitated through Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Maximo (our Computerized Maintenance Management System).

 

The UPO III may also provide relief and support in other job classifications, including Maintenance and Fuel Unloading. Other duties include performing regular testing and treatment of boiler water as directed and checking offsite equipment such as the Hospital boiler and West Campus boiler.

This position follows a rotating shift schedule, rotating between days and nights every two weeks. You will work seven scheduled days every fourteen days (Dupont rotating schedule), including nights, holidays, and weekends. Availability for vacation coverage, emergency relief, and overtime as required by the plant management team is essential.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • Four (4) years of experience in which you gained expertise operating boilers, pumps, fans, conveyors, or similar equipment in an industrial, process plant, or ship or shore-based power plant setting
  • Two (2) years of experience operating solid fuel and/or gas/oil-fired water tube boilers, turbine generators, and related plant equipment

As the ROCC Operator I located in Houston, TX, you will be working under the supervision of the ROCC Supervisor and in collaboration with Engineering, IT and Operations stakeholders, to monitor and coordinate the Real Time operation of ENGIE’s 4.5 GW of renewable fleet of utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage assets across North America from the 24/7/365 Renewable Operations Control Center to ensure stable and reliable operation of generation facilities.

 

Every shift, you will complete daily monitoring duties, to include maintenance of a thorough operations log and completion of shift checklists, track progress using CROW software, and work through a customized orientation packet designed for onboarding ROCC operators at ENGIE.

 

  • Ensure the reliable operation of ENGIE renewable assets, to include maintaining continual communication with on-site personnel and Asset Managers
  • Implement and coordinate ENGIE asset outages as needed to support preventive and corrective maintenance
  • During abnormal system operating conditions or when sites have individual problems, evaluate the situation, direct and coordinate the solution in collaboration with on-site personnel and ROCC supervision

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • You have an associate’s degree in engineering or a relevant trade qualification (e.g. power system technician, protection, and control technologist)
  • You are willing to obtain a PJM Generation Dispatcher certification within 12 months of start date
  • You are eager to gain knowledge in wind and solar generation
  • You are familiar with power system equipment and technology
  • You are willing to gain knowledge on NERC Standards, both O&P and CIP, as they apply to Real Time operations and a medium-impact control center environment

  • You can communicate and coordinate with other BES entities  Transmission Operators, Independent System Operators, and Reliability Coordinators
  • You can execute switch orders prepared by Engineering and issuing work clearances to field maintenance crews
  • You can dispatch field maintenance crews to investigate abnormal conditions, and log actions, communications, and abnormal conditions for future review

What you'll do: 

  • Responsible for the safe, proper and efficient operation of all machinery and related equipment (boilers, pumps, air compressors, conveying systems, fans, electric motors, ash conveying system, control valves, etc.) as directed by the Shift Supervisor

  • Responsible to report and keep the appropriate personnel informed by communicating verbally and in writing all pertinent information amongst the shift, between shifts, production support personnel and management personnel

What you bring: 

  • High School Degree or GED equivalent required advanced technical training or education preferred

  • Three (3) years industrial plant, process plant or power plant experience operating boilers, pumps, fans, conveyors and/or other similar equipment required 

  • One (1) year experience operating solid fuel and/or gas/oil fired water tube boilers, turbine generators and related plant equipment required

  • Licenses similar to the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) are preferred, example:  State of Minnesota Second Class Engineer license

ENGIE North America is seeking an Electrician I.  This position will be  servicing the electrical distribution network at the University of Iowa campus.  This role requires the highest regard for safety. Under general supervision, applies knowledge, skills and abilities at the journey level to install, operate, troubleshoot, maintain and repair electric utility substation, distribution and production plant electrical equipment operating at less than 600 volts.

 This role reports to the Electrical Distribution Manager and is located on the University of Iowa campus.

What you’ll do: 

  • Install, operate, troubleshoot, maintain and repair electric utility systems; including low voltage power distribution systems, switchgear, protection and control systems, lighting, ventilation and pumping systems, battery systems, instrumentation, motor starters and controls and conduit, cable and wiring systems operating at less than 600 volts
  • Determines jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required, procures materials, coordinates outages, completes work, places systems back into service
  • Interprets and maintains wiring diagrams, schematics, updates system logs, drawings and documentation on utility systems
  • Works around and with medium voltage (600 volts to 15kV) utility systems under the direction of High Voltage Electricians

 

What you bring:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman Electrician license.
  • Journey level electrician with experience in the trade preferred, particularly with utility systems in a utility, power plant or industrial environment
  • Valid State issued Driver’s License, Commercial driver’s license is desirable
  • Ability to arrive at the facility within one hour when on call
  • Knowledge of electric utility systems and equipment
  • Knowledge of tools and methods necessary to troubleshoot and maintain electrical utility equipment
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the electrical trade
  • Knowledge of the trade occupational hazards and safety precautions while working in confined spaces, aerial or elevated locations, extreme temperatures, excavations, and other environmental caused conditions
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, utility standards, and safety programs as governed by rules, regulations and guidelines of local, state, and national electrical and safety codes, equipment manufacturers and others
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, control system drawings and repair manuals
  • Ability to perform basic math computations
  • Ability to maintain records and system documentation
  • Ability to analyze system problems, recommend and implement system changes
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with other department personnel, vendors and suppliers, students, staff, and the general public
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
