What You Can Expect
ENGIE North America is searching for a Utility Performance Engineering Intern. This role is based on campus at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA. Engie currently collects real-time data from thousands of process points from the utility and building automation systems on the University of Iowa campus. This information is vital to maintaining the efficient operation of the University’s utilities.
Daily, you will use real-time and historical data to drive efficiency improvements and cost savings for the campus utility system which provides steam, electricity, chilled water, water and sewer services. Most of this data is collected using the PI System software which connects to control systems at the campus Power Plant, Chilled Water Plants, Water Plant and Electrical Distribution Systems as well as real-time metering for steam, electricity, chilled water and water meters at approximately 90 buildings. This data is used to populate real-time graphical displays as well as being stored long-term for analyses and reporting.
Reporting to the Utility Performance Engineer, This position will split time working in the Power Plant and at the Energy Control Center located in The University Services Building (USB).
Hours are flexible but this person should average 10-15 hours/week during the hours of 7 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday.
- Build replicas of automation displays linked to live data using PI Vision software. Add and update tag in the PI System. Design reports using PI Datalink add-in to Excel
- Assist with any other data entry or reporting as necessary
- Assist in the preparation of performance improvement reports, testing plans, and procedure updates
- Assist Operations, Engineering, or Management with gathering data and putting together trends to support studies, projects, or operational needs
- Other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring
- You must be currently enrolled at the University of Iowa in Engineering or Computer Science programs or pathways
- You have completed course work in thermodynamics and other energy related courses
- You have experience performing basic energy calculations and analyses
- You have a willingness and ability to learn the basics of utility plant systems
- Experience using PI Vision and PI Datalink
- Willingness and ability to learn PI AF System, PI System Explorer software and the PI Builder add-in to Excel

- Ability to communicate effectively: digitally, written, verbally and in writing
- Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to use personal computer, calculator, and work with standard software applications

- A small percentage of the work will be performed out in the plant which can be a hot, dirty, and noisy environment
Compensation
Hourly Range: $20.00 – $32.00 USD hourly
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
