Context:

 

The Gas Delivery and Physical business Platform is responsible within GEM for scheduling, dispatching and balancing ENGIE and affiliates gas portfolios round the clock, seven days a week. With the strong expansion of Europe’s spot gas market, new opportunities and challenges have arisen for the department. To extract the highest value from this evolution and in line with the ROAD gas project, Short Term Gas has decided to move towards a fully service-oriented model.

 

Gas Delivery and Operation participate to Short Term activities together with Asset Management and Delivery Oversights. These two teams manage the delivery of gas and the asset optimization on the European network.

In your team your main tasks will be the following:

 

  • Conduct of physical operations (balancing, nominations, control & follow-up of matching reports) arising from gas trading activities
  • Acquiring and developing an in-depth knowledge and expertise in gas markets operating rules
  • Putting in place and updating internal processes and systems to support new businesses and adapt to markets rules changes
  • Participate to Short term trading activities and asset optimization (shift trading)
  • Work in shift 3*8 (morning, evening and night)

As an integral member of the Supply & Energy Management Risk & Finance Group, you will work with Supply & Energy Management Front Office and Risk teams and other stakeholders to provide analytical, market intelligence and strategy support focused on evaluating various risk management strategies and optimizing Profit & Loss (P&L) within the risk mandates.

 

As a Market Risk Advisor in Houston, You will report to the Portfolio Analysis Director and you will work with Commercial and Risk teams to provide analytical, market insight and strategy support focused on evaluating various risk management strategies and optimizing Profit & Loss (P&L) within the risk mandates.

 

  • Propose, evaluate, and validate commercial strategies that manage the value / risk balance of the various retail supply / renewable energy portfolios (power, gas, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)) managed by Supply & Energy Management and other GBUs (Global Business Units) individually and collectively (e.g. reducing basis risk, managing intermittency, etc.) Perform periodic and ad-hoc analysis
  • Identify and develop appropriate cost/risk bricks to value PPAs and support investment analysis
  • Work with Commercial and Risk Teams to develop models for valuing complex structured transactions and perform post-processing modeling and analysis using Excel and other computing platforms
  • Research and analyze subjects including historical and forward market prices, market fundamentals, customer load analysis, financial forecast variances and advise internal stakeholders in terms of general structuring advice as well as optimization of returns throughout the transaction process
  • Develop, enhance and maintain tools, methodologies and reports that evaluate pricing and risk assessment of various commercial transactions  
  • Use benchmarking data to support valuation and competitive assessments, and create a benchmarking process to evaluate actions undertaken by front-office
  • Build, maintain and publish internal models for tracking and evaluating asset-specific performance metrics
  • Identify and recommend risk reducing offsets and efficiencies in avoided bid-ask spreads and credit across the ENGIE portfolio
  • Perform economic analyses of structured transactions (EVA) to support Origination & Structuring activities of Supply & Energy Management front-office and other business units
  • Collaborate and participate in knowledge sharing with various stakeholders and Expertise Centers (e.g. Risk, MAS - Markets, Assets & Supply); support Commercial, Origination  and Business Development activities, offering views on ISO’s market fundamentals (Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Pennsylvania New Jersey Maryland Interconnection (PJM), Southwest Power Pool (SPP), Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), ISO New England (ISO-NE)), Renewable Energy development and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) pricing opportunities, price vs. renewable production dynamics, etc.

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of four-year degree in which you completed courses in an analytical and quantitative (e.g., Engineering, Finance, Economics, Math) or other related discipline

You will ensure the consistent and accurate publication of daily Risk & Performance Reports, oversee book structure management across multiple legal entities, and maintain strict adherence to trader risk mandates. By estimating and modeling various reserves (credit, liquidity, inception, model, intermittency, shape, volume), validating forward/settlement curves, and creating data-driven reports, you will play a crucial role in supporting the overall financial performance and risk management of the organization. You will lead a team of professionals tasked with providing robust Middle-Office support and enhancing reporting capabilities through tools like Power BI.

 

  • Daily MtM (Mark-to-Market) Reporting
    • Oversee the computation and validation of daily MtM values for all trading books and products
    • Ensure timely distribution and accuracy of MtM figures to key stakeholders
  • P&L Validation, Attribution, and Sign-Off
    • Validate daily P&L results and provide clear explanations by desk, KPI, and book
    • Monitor P&L sign-off, ensuring discrepancies are thoroughly investigated and resolved

As a Power Congestion Analyst II, you will report to Director Congestion Trading and provide quantitative and fundamental analytics for US electricity markets to improve grid modeling and congestion analysis.   • Execute production cost models (Dayzer preferred) by systematically analyzing and updating the inputs as appropriate
  • Develop and execute appropriate scenario studies pertinent to the period of study and systematically analyzing the results
  • Develop systematic and repeatable approach to form fundamental views with respect to congestion trading
  • Analyze and determine drivers of Day Ahead and Real Time congestion market outcomes based on macro-fundamentals (supply, demand, renewables) and micro-fundamentals (specific transmission and generation outage impacts, bids, facility limits).
  • Develop and test innovative trade ideas and strategies
  • Identify model gaps by calibrating the model results to market outcomes and determine appropriate solutions
  • Assist with ad-hoc fundamental analyses
  • Participate in ISO meetings as appropriate and assess commercial impacts
  • Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve trade tools

Context

The GEMS Legal & Regulation department (85+ lawyers worldwide) is composed of 1) several client focused teams with lawyers embedded into different parts of the business based on line of business or geography and 2) a functional central legal team covering several legal functional areas which are transversal throughout GEMS (the Transversal Team). The Transversal Team (15+ lawyers in Paris and Brussels) is looking for a regulation and market conduct lawyer to accompany GEMS’s activities in the day-to-day energy optimization and trading operations in compliance with the applicable regulatory framework. The position is a great opportunity to work hand-in-hand with operational teams and be associated with a range of activities (incl. optimization of the asset portfolio and wholesale energy markets re physical and financial products, both short-term and long-term).

YOUR Role

You will:

  • Provide regulatory guidance to the business on regulations impacting GEMS’s activities (energy and trading) via comprehensive legal, regulatory and market conduct analyses that identify risks, issues and mitigating measures;
  • Develop strategies, internal policies and solutions to facilitate market activities/ business development/ regulatory compliance, and develop - together with other support functions and operational teams - best practices in relation to market conduct topics and wholesale energy market regulations;
  • Maintain a deep understanding of market conduct, wholesale and financial market regulations and the regulatory activities of regional and national regulators impacting the GEMS activities, incl. training operational teams on regulations impacting GEMS activities;
  • Lead, coordinate and advise on investigations (both internal and external) and regulatory inquiries in relation to energy market conduct topics in respect of GEMS activities such as from energy and financial regulators, market exchanges, and transport system operators;
  • Contribute to GEMS’ public affairs position and lobbying strategy towards public authorities and regulators to build favorable market design in respect of market conduct issues and energy market regulation topics, incl. coordinating GEMS’s contribution to national and European consultation papers on relevant market conduct and energy market regulation topics;
  • Further GEMS’ interest by attending and participating in trade associations committees (e.g. EFET, EURELECTRIC, EUROGAS) and liaise with relevant competent regional and national stakeholders; and
  • Contribute to other Transversal topics.

About YOU

You meet all (or most of) the following criteria:

  • Qualified lawyer (preferably in Belgium or France);
  • At least 4 years of professional experience;
  • Prior experience in the energy sector;
  • Prior experience in regulatory topics and/or energy law and/or public law and/or competition law within the EU is preferred. Experience with MAR and REMIT is a plus;
  • Prior experience in litigation/investigations is a plus;
  • Strong legal reasoning skills;
  • Excellent presentation, analytical and drafting skills;
  • Ability to understand in details complex products and how the business functions from a legal and economical point of view;
  • Effective manager of one’s time and external resources;
  • Ability to work closely with internal stakeholders;
