Context:

Climate targets are becoming a very important point on the energy transition roadmap of our corporate clients, with many claims being made by 2030.

Role :

Within GEMS, the Carbon Desk, Environmental Market Access and BP Clients aim to develop upstream to downstream capabilities to originate high quality carbon offsets and deliver carbon contribution solutions to our customers. Your main tasks will be :

 

  • Take responsibility for achieving sales revenue targets for Carbon Offsets, developing a transaction pipeline and driving sales closures both on spot and forward contracts
  • Leverage on our existing customer portfolio to identify interests on Carbon offsets
  • Prospect, qualify and engage new carbon credit sales clients. Drive relationship from initial catch up through to the successful closing of sales, including structuration and negotiation of commercial conditions and contracts
  • Answer to RFPs from customers mobilizing the teams needed internally
  • Develop and present carbon credit sales proposals to clients
  • Collaborate with other teams (Carbon desk, EMA desk) to ensure successful project implementation
  • Follow risk and governance framework
  • Work collaboratively to refine our product offering and design new products and solutions to answer evolving needs of our customers and prospects
  • Analyse client needs, gather market intelligence and identify industry trends
  • Contribute to automate and digitalize operations, processes and reporting
  • Assist in helping to sell other environmental products when relevant

Hard skills:

  • Education: Master degree in Economics, Finance, Business admin or quantitative studies ideally with evidence of a focus on environmental or sustainability issues
  • Experience : a minimum of 7 years' experience in sales within the energy, commodities, or financial sectors, ideally targeting large multinational corporations
  • Industry knowledge : deep experience in carbon credit sales and understanding of the carbon markets and global carbon reporting standards (GHG protocol, SBTi...)
  • Track record: Proven success in meeting and exceeding sales targets and managing key client relationships. Proven B2B sales management skills. Capability to spot new opportunities
  • Significant experience in Business development/ structured sales with proven track record of closing deals and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers/clients; Preferably focus on energy/carbon markets
  • Strong knowledge of the carbon products and markets (project based carbon standards, technologies and project development processes and global carbon reporting standards (GHG protocol, SBTi...)
  • Taste for regulatory matters – and ability to link them to business opportunities
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Result-oriented hands-on approach and ability to manage multiple workflows.

The Gas Delivery and Physical business Platform is responsible within GEM for scheduling, dispatching and balancing ENGIE and affiliates gas portfolios round the clock, seven days a week. With the strong expansion of Europe’s spot gas market, new opportunities and challenges have arisen for the department. Gas Delivery and Operation participate to Short Term activities together with Asset Management and Delivery Oversights. These two teams manage the delivery of gas and the asset optimization on the European network.

  • Conduct of physical operations (balancing, nominations, control & follow-up of matching reports) arising from gas trading activities

Under the supervision of the ENGIE Energy Marketing North America Risk Director, as a Middle-Office Manager-Risk & Finance, you will manage all aspects of daily MtM (Mark-to-Market) reporting, Profit & Loss (P&L) validation, and sign-off monitoring. You will ensure the consistent and accurate publication of daily Risk & Performance Reports, oversee book structure management across multiple legal entities, and maintain strict adherence to trader risk mandates. By estimating and modeling various reserves (credit, liquidity, inception, model, intermittency, shape, volume), validating forward/settlement curves, and creating data-driven reports, you will play a crucial role in supporting the overall financial performance and risk management of the organization. You will lead a team of professionals tasked with providing robust Middle-Office support and enhancing reporting capabilities through tools like Power BI.

 

  • Daily MtM (Mark-to-Market) Reporting
    • Oversee the computation and validation of daily MtM values for all trading books and products
    • Ensure timely distribution and accuracy of MtM figures to key stakeholders
  • P&L Validation, Attribution, and Sign-Off
    • Validate daily P&L results and provide clear explanations by desk, KPI, and book
    • Monitor P&L sign-off, ensuring discrepancies are thoroughly investigated and resolved
  • Risk & Performance Reporting
    • Manage the publication of Daily Risk & Performance Reports, maintaining high data quality and consistency
    • Develop KPIs and dashboards using tools like Microsoft Power BI to enhance visibility into operational and financial performance
  • Book Structure Management (Multi-Legal Entity)
    • Coordinate and maintain book structures across multiple legal entities, ensuring all trades are accurately captured
    • Collaborate with Front Office, Back Office, and Accounting teams to keep book hierarchies aligned with organizational requirements
  • Trader Risk Mandate & Reserve Calculations
    • Enforce trader risk mandates, monitoring limit usage and escalating breaches when necessary
    • Estimate, model, and compute various reserves, including credit, liquidity, inception, model, intermittency, shape, and volume reserves
  • Forward and Settlement Curves Validation (Price Control)
    • Validate and benchmark forward and settlement curves, ensuring consistency with market data
    • Oversee exotic parameters such as hourly shape factors, scalar ratios, and B/A spreads for liquidity reserves
  • Process Automation & Reporting Improvements
    • Lead initiatives to automate Middle-Office processes, improving the accuracy and efficiency of data capture and reporting
    • Collaborate with IT to implement and maintain Power BI reports, ensuring user-friendly interfaces and reliable data sources
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with Front Office, Credit, Market Risk, and Operational Risk teams to manage exceptions and align on valuation methodologies
    • Work closely with Legal, Finance, and Accounting to maintain compliance with internal policies and external regulations
  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Manage a team of Middle-Office professionals, providing mentoring, training, and development opportunities
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, proactively identifying areas to enhance processes and reduce operational risk
  • Audit & Compliance
    • Coordinate with internal and external auditors on controls related to MtM, P&L, and reserve calculations

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in a Middle-Office environment within the energy or commodities sector (Gas and Power)
  • Proven track record in managing MtM reporting, P&L analysis, and risk metrics (e.g., VaR, stress testing)
  • Proficient in ETRM systems (e.g., FIS Aligne) and advanced Excel.
  • Familiarity with Power BI for reporting and data visualization
  • Strong understanding of forward curve validation, price control processes, and exotic parameter management (shape factors, scalars)

What You Can Expect

As a Power Congestion Analyst II, you will report to Director Congestion Trading and provide quantitative and fundamental analytics for US electricity markets to improve grid modeling and congestion analysis. Every day, you will perform cost modeling by using DAYZER to forecast nodal electricity price components and analyze weather patterns and fuel prices to predict the base electricity prices.

 

  • Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and Pennsylvania New Jersey Maryland Interconnection (PJM) Independent System Operator (ISO) congestion analysis
  • Execute production cost models (Dayzer preferred) by systematically analyzing and updating the inputs as appropriate
  • Develop and execute appropriate scenario studies pertinent to the period of study and systematically analyzing the results
  • Develop systematic and repeatable approach to form fundamental views with respect to congestion trading
  • Analyze and determine drivers of Day Ahead and Real Time congestion market outcomes based on macro-fundamentals (supply, demand, renewables) and micro-fundamentals (specific transmission and generation outage impacts, bids, facility limits).
  • Develop and test innovative trade ideas and strategies
  • Identify model gaps by calibrating the model results to market outcomes and determine appropriate solutions
  • Assist with ad-hoc fundamental analyses
  • Participate in ISO meetings as appropriate and assess commercial impacts
  • Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve trade tools
  • Develop and maintain dispatch and flow models, communicating fundamental developments and views to stakeholders
  • Build models to track market fundamentals and regularly benchmark against actualizations

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in which you completed courses in Engineering/Business/Finance or relevant disciplines
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in congestion markets analysis, power plant economics, price forecasting, trading, or a related discipline
  • Six (6) months of experience with production cost modeling, congestion analysis or wholesale electricity market experience in the relevant ISO
  • Experience in ERCOT or PJM ISO congestion market
  • Strong understanding of power grid optimization, powerflow shift factors, line-outage distribution factors and contingency analysis
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Willingness to engage in dialogue and debate with colleagues
  • Proficient in coding such as Structured Query Language (SQL)/ Python
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques

We are currently looking for a Real-Time Power Optimizer in Brussels to strengthen our team.  Your role will be to monitor and steer the ENGIE portfolio.

 

Your role  

  • Manage the contractual balance between the total power production and the real off-take of our clients; to keep this balance you will have to interact with the power plant responsible, the sales load forecasting team, and the power Transmission System Operator;
  • Optimize the portfolio positions and optionality in real time on the imbalance markets and maximize the value of the portfolio e.g. ancillary services contracts towards TSO, supporting the design of intraday strategies and provide real-time steering of flexible assets;
  • Intellectually challenging job with a mix of operations and project development;

Context:

Within GEMS, the Green Power Structuring & Origination desk is part of the structured power commercial activities within the BP Power Trading & Commercial (BP PT&C) operating across the full power value chain in Northwest Europe (NWE).

 

The main missions of the Green Power Structuring & Origination desk are:

  • Developing renewable power solutions that will address the needs of GEMS upstream and downstream clients (power purchase agreements (PPAs)), and ENGIE’s in-house renewable asset developer teams in NWE.
  • Developing lasting commercial relationships with renewable asset developers, expanding GEMS renewable asset portfolio under management to serve our downstream clients in their energy transition.

 

Responsibilities:

As a Green Power Originator you will be in charge of the Belgian market, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Develop a profitable external client business with renewable asset owners in Belgium (prospecting, building commercial pipeline and closing deals) and maintain existing client flow, focusing on:
    • Wind and PV power purchase agreements (PPAs)
    • Wind and PV guarantees of origin
  • Develop and maintain a professional network of renewable asset owners (from private owned companies to funds). This includes participating to industry conferences and representing the company on various events on renewables topics (both external and internal).
  • Assure timely response to requests for quotes coordinating with internal stakeholders (trading, structuring, legal, credit/KYC teams, etc.).
  • Negotiate contracts and assure timely implementation of contracts coordinating with internal stakeholders (operations, back office, etc.).
  • Follow up on any post-trade issues coordinating with internal stakeholders and liaising with the client, including managing conflicts.
  • Follow up on regulation and evolutions of the renewable energy sector in Belgium (market watch, market standards and products,... ).
  • Help GEMS to further grow its client business with renewable asset owners, pulling GEMS product catalogue and finding new value pockets for both GEMS and the client. This includes leading ad-hoc business cases to scale up GEMS renewable power solutions.
  • Contribute to the development/improvement of contract templates in close collaboration with legal and structuring.
  • Comply with GEMS internal procedures and compliance policies.

 

This is a front office role, working in a dynamic trading floor environment and in close collaboration with internal stakeholders.

Education and professional background:

  • 5-10 years of professional experience in business development in the renewable energy sector and/or energy markets.
