The opportunity:
The Global Energy Management & Sales (GEMS) business unit is the fully integrated trading arm of the ENGIE Group. GEMS teams manage ENGIE’s highly diversified energy portfolio and provide a range of trading risk management solutions to all types of market participants in Europe, Asia Pacific and in the Americas.
You will be joining a relatively new local player in the Australian energy market, presenting an opportunity for you to be a part of a new team, that is building the foundations of our commercial franchise - driving our growth strategy and enhancing our market presence.

From contact to contracts:
The Origination team is responsible for securing high value structured power, renewable, carbon and environmental transactions, promoting risk management solutions and market access services to wholesale clients and counterparts.
The newly created position will suit a commercially savvy energy markets professional, with breadth of experience and knowledge around origination and end-to-end execution of bespoke and complex transactions.
The position reports to the Head of Origination, Engie GEMS ANZ. The Origination team works alongside the Trading and Supply teams. It enjoys a hybrid working environment and an inclusive and collaborative approach to doing business together, sharing ideas and knowledge.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Identifying and evaluate new business opportunities in the Australian energy markets (power, environmental and carbon sectors) that align with strategic goals and build a strong pipeline of deals
- Monitor market trends and competitor activities, complete thorough due diligence to support transactions and to broaden market access
- Managing client relationships and facilitate the boarding process of new counterparties.
- Structure and design innovative solutions for energy and decarbonisation transactions with due consideration for risk
- Lead contractual negotiations, and oversee their execution, in compliance with legal, regulatory and reporting requirements
About you:
- Excellent commercial management and negotiating skills
- Degree / masters qualified in Economics, actuarial studies, engineering, or related field
- Demonstrated experience as a trader, originator or structurer in energy markets, preferably within the National Electricity Market.
- Proven expertise trading, structuring or dealing in energy market, including a strong knowledge of energy market transaction structures, regulations, and Australian market participants
- Able to foster collaboration with colleagues across functions and business units in a complex matrix organisation
- Display respect for and value health, safety, ethical work practices and all applicable policies
