Director, Green Fuels Practice Lead

ENGIE Impact’s Directors are responsible for the expansion of our services in the Americas, and establishing and developing strong and trusted client relationships through high-level advisory focusing on delivery value for clients.

 

As a Director, you will be part of the Engie Impact Strategy and Implementation leadership team. This role focuses on providing support to our clients who are working to accelerate their transition to zero emission across a variety of capabilities. The role will focus on establishing and developing strong and trusted client relationships through high-level advisory focusing on value delivery for clients Our clients include Fortune 500 companies, including some of the most influential and innovative players in the world, as well as public agencies.

 

As a Green Fuels Practice Lead, you will the driving force behind both our regional Green Fuels growth and global cooperation through spearheading a robust commercialization and go-to-market strategy, crafting relevant offerings, and fostering collaboration within the Engie. Leading a talented team, this executive is responsible for developing a Go-to-market (GTM) strategy that is aligned with ENGIE Impact’s Sector/Practice model, not only driving RE specific strategies, but also ensuring deep collaboration with the multiple sectors to strengthen our overall decarbonization value proposition to clients

 

As a Director, you will help grow the business and leverage our network, vision and knowledge of Engie solutions shaping strategic orientations of its entity. We are seeking to grow our team with leaders who are equally passionate about achieving short-term real world impact and building the business structures to realize that objective.

 

This position requires strong project-delivery and client-facing experience, as well as a solid background in business development, stakeholder engagement, and people leadership. Professional experience in strategy advisory is critical, with special emphasis on green fuels, hydrogen, clean tech, technology, client markets, business models, policies and regulations.

 

Specifically, you will:

  • Lead the Americas Green Fuels Practice Area (PA) to drive regional growth and profitability
  • Directly manage senior staff to ensure complete and high-quality project deliverables to clients
  • Oversee the development and preparation of high-quality client-facing proposals, materials and deliverables across multiple workstreams; Design comprehensive solutions which ensure margin and deliverability
  • Ensure regional growth of Americas customer segment (solution design and implementation) through a strong go-to-market strategy and development of relevant offerings and thought leadership leveraging sales and marketing enablement
  • Lead expert analysis of client solutions to develop unique insights
  • Drive business development through strong collaboration with our commercial teams and other leaders throughout our global organization
  • Develop and manage shadow P&L of the Americas Green Fuels practice
  • Help establish business process designs internally and across the ENGIE organization
  • Lead internal and external communications activities related to practice offerings, capabilities, and successes
  • Manage and coach team to foster a collaborative working environment, encourage innovation, and support in professional development and career progression definition
  • Frequently collaborate with and receive coaching from our senior leadership team

 

Contribute to sales and business development efforts around implementation programs

  • Directly participate and lead business development efforts related to large implementation programs and participate in offer preparation
  • Build and maintain connections across ENGIE Impact Strategy and Implementation teams to support colleagues in integrating implementation best practices across their client portfolios

 

Build strong delivery networks and partnerships

  • Leverage a strong network of implementation partners within ENGIE and externally, including ENGIE global business units, EPCs, service providers, financing partners, etc.
  • Build credibility and develop cross-cutting relationships to foster collaboration, alignment, and efficient issue resolution

 

Promote ENGIE Impact

  • Build and develop a strong network to promote ENGIE Impact
  • Attend and present at key networking events
  • Be a promoter of ENGIE Impact’s solutions at events, fairs, etc.

 

Enhance Talent & Expertise

  • Ensure the development of a strong technical and market expertise within your team
  • Manage teams and grow our Green Fuels practice in the Americas

The pay range for this role is: $171,0000-254,000.

The listed salary range represents ENGIE’s good faith estimate and is based on a wide range of factors, including candidate’s experience, industry knowledge, qualifications, seniority, and location. This position is eligible for our comprehensive and competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Experience

  • Demonstrated passion for sustainability, green fuels, renewables, clean energy, and combating the global climate crisis
  • 10+ years of demonstrated professional experience; a minimum of five years of client-facing project delivery experience focusing on Scope 1 and green fuel challenges (e.g., with a competitive management consulting firm, a leading energy transition consulting organization or similar experience)
  • Graduate degree in business, applied sciences, engineering, environment or sustainability with a stellar record of academic achievement preferred; Bachelor’s degree required
  • Business development experience related to consulting and project delivery; Industrial, Manufacturing, Consumer Packaged Goods sector experience preferred
  • Superb consulting skillset – slide and report writing; issue-based problem solving; structured thinking and communication; translating data to insights; collaborative teaming and facilitation; competitive strategy and financial analysis
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage with senior stakeholders and drive strategic initiatives throughout complex organizations

Director of Interconnection - MISO

The Director of Interconnection will be responsible for managing the interconnection and grid integration process to support the company's overall development and operational goals across the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). Focus will be on the Company’s existing ~10 GW pipeline of utility scale stand-alone energy storage projects in MISO, as well as new project analysis. You will be responsible for transmission-related topics including tariffs, planning, technical evaluation, contract negotiations and the overall interconnection process through the full life cycle of development and construction of projects.

 

Every day in this role you will be responsible for managing the interconnection process and monitor key milestones throughout the lifecycle of the project from early-stage development to commercial operation.

  

  • Coordinate, review and interpret interconnection and transmission studies performed by utilities and outside consultants
  • Function as main liaison with project developers, and third-party consultants, on matters relating to interconnection to provide technical insight and business solutions to reduce interconnection cost and remove obstacles to project development
  • Perform/manage analysis to predict interconnection capacity, deliverability, and other key parameters to support project development and have experience with load flow modeling and analyses
  • Conduct due-diligence review for potential interconnection and transmission risks related to potential projects, portfolio acquisitions, and commercial transactions; provide recommendations to the acquisition team
  • Perform transmission assessments and policy reviews to forecast future system conditions and determine commercial viability to support development and construction activities
  • Negotiation of contractual agreements with utilities
  • Collaborate with engineering team in optimizing project’s engineering design in support of grid integration requirements 
  • Represent the Company to establish and maintain productive relationships with key utility and MISO personnel, industry groups, regulators and other stakeholders on issues related to transmission and interconnection
  • Monitor regional transmission planning process and interconnection policy changes; participate as stakeholder in transmission and market-related regulatory activities as necessary with collaboration with the Company’s regulatory and development teams
  • Review utility transmission planning reports and present findings to the Company
  • Provide technical support for project development and acquisition activities in the evaluation of transmission system and planning issues
  • Actively monitor the progress of required system upgrades and identify creative mitigation solutions to support development of projects

The Project Development Manager will be responsible for the development of utility scale battery storage projects across the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) market. In this role you will support the development of existing pipeline, new greenfield development, and project acquisition. Efficiently communicate complex development situations, and work through development issues from the start of development through construction.  Travel as necessary for siting, development and commercial activities as required to keep development on track.

  • Manage/analyze information flow relevant to project development from internal subject matter experts and external consultants/vendors

  • Manage project level progress, risks, opportunities, and economics while providing thoughtful analysis and risk evaluation
  • Drive decisions and prioritize allocation of resources based on a deep understanding of schedule dependencies and financial impacts
  • Maintain a rigorous understanding of the overall state of the energy storage market in CAISO, including regulatory and competitive matters, to inform development decisions
  • Track project progress through key development milestones, managing schedules and budgets, and coordinating across disciplines within the Company
  • Manage and/or support due diligence activities for acquisitions
  • Manage negotiation of lease/purchase options and agreements for site control
  • Coordinate engineering activities in pursuit of permits and as required for interconnection matters
  • Work closely with engineering team in support of design and EPC process

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Construction, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Science, Management, or another Analytical field required
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ relevant work experience and two (2) years of experience in energy storage or renewable energy development, preferably with experience in CAISO or other Independent System Operator (ISO), with experience in project management, permitting, offtake negotiation, interconnection, planning, real estate, and other matters critical to development
  • Demonstrated success and experience developing utility scale energy storage and/or renewable energy projects, within CAISO or other ISO
  • Familiarity with relevant state, county and city codes, procedures and regulations required by local planning and building departments
  • Experience preparing, negotiating, and closing commercial agreements including development agreements, site control agreements, consulting and service agreements, interconnection, and power sales agreements, etc.
  • Ability to manage a large workload across a large portfolio, while prioritizing tasks and effectively managing competing deadlines
  • Detailed understanding of the CAISO market or other ISO with particular focus on interconnection, regulatory and offtake matters
  • Ability to evaluate development status and efficiently inform critical decision making with management

The Development Director will be responsible for the development of utility scale battery storage projects across the Midcontinent Independent System Operator “MISO” market. In this role you will support the development of existing pipeline, new greenfield development, and project acquisition. Efficiently communicate complex development situations, and work through development issues from the start of development through construction. Travel as necessary for siting, development and commercial activities as required to keep development on track.

Every day in this role you will be responsible for managing and supporting permitting, site control, interconnection matters, power marketing, design/ Engineering, Procurement, Construction “EPC”, financing and other matters critical to the development of energy storage projects throughout MISO.

 

  • Manage/analyze information flow relevant to project development from internal subject matter experts and external consultants/vendors
  • Ownership of project inputs/assumptions and coordinating updates with respective internal groups
  • Manage project level progress, risks, opportunities, and economics while providing thoughtful analysis and risk evaluation
  • Drive decisions and prioritize allocation of resources based on a deep understanding of schedule dependencies and financial impacts
  • Maintain a rigorous understanding of the overall state of the energy storage market in MISO, including regulatory and competitive matters, to inform development decisions
  • Track project progress through key development milestones, managing schedules and budgets, and coordinating across disciplines within the Company
  • Manage and/or support due diligence activities for acquisitions
  • Manage negotiation of lease/purchase options and agreements for site control

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Construction, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Environmental, Science, Management, or another Analytical field required
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant work experience  and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in MISO or other Independent System Operator “ISO” with energy storage or renewable energy development, with experience in project management, permitting, offtake negotiation, interconnection, planning, real estate, and other matters critical to development
  • Demonstrated success and experience developing utility scale energy storage and/or renewable energy projects, within MISO or other ISO
  • Familiarity with relevant state, county and city codes, procedures and regulations required by local planning and building departments
  • Experience preparing, negotiating, and closing commercial agreements including development agreements, site control agreements, consulting and service agreements, interconnection, and power sales agreements
  • Ability to manage a large workload across a large portfolio, while prioritizing tasks and effectively managing competing deadlines
  • Detailed understanding of the MISO market or other ISO with particular focus on interconnection, regulatory and offtake matters
  • Ability to evaluate development status and efficiently inform critical decision making with management

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy; and can work remotely if in California until we open the San Francisco, CA office or work our hybrid work schedule if in Houston, TX. 
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 30% of the time with the need for some overnight trips
