TRACTEBEL is a key player for the detailed design of structures on the Nuclear Island at Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC), some of the world’s largest construction projects. The scope involves the design of steelwork and reinforced concrete structures. As well as our flagship projects, TRACTEBEL also has a pipeline of other projects in the nuclear industry to feed our expansion in 2024 and 2025.

The OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for motivated and innovative Structural or Civil Engineers, with experience in steelwork design, to work on the design of Hinkley Point C (HPC) nuclear powerplant, as well as our future pipeline of projects. You will provide your design expertise to successfully deliver our projects, in collaboration with clients, contractors, stakeholders and our project teams.

 

The key responsibilities will include a selection of the following points, depending on your technical experience and the position you take within our team:

 

  • Completing the structural design and steelwork integrity assessments on new build nuclear structures, including for accidental situations (e.g. seismic).
  • Perform or adapting the design of steel structural components, such a connection details and anchorages.
  • Coordinating and communicating on complex engineering problems between project stakeholders.
  • Providing technical review and responding to site queries and requested changes in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to support contractor activities on HPC site.
  • Coordination with the CAD team to finalise design packages for procurements and construction.
  • Checking and validation of steelwork designs produced by TRACTEBEL design offices.
  • Coordination with other disciplines (civils, HVAC, piping etc.) to ensure clash free and compliant designs.
  • Participating site visits to analyse specific issues or requests from the Contractor.  
  • Developing strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

 

 

Your Profile

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate would meet the following requirements and criteria:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Working towards or recently Chartered with the ICE, IStructE, or with equivalent experience.
  • Experience in steelworks calculation and design.
  • Working familiarity with relevant technical Codes of Practice and Industry Standards (Eurocodes, British Standard, and ETC-C the applicable code for HPC/SZC).
  • Proactive individual who can work collaboratively within a multicultural team.
  • Agile and self-motivated, with a focus on improving personal and team performance and able to generate innovative outcomes to challenges.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure projects and can demonstrate ability to deliver high quality work packages to schedule.
  • You enjoy new challenges and are keen to learn and willing to take responsibility whilst also wanting to support others within our team.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry based in the UK, e.g. nuclear.

 

The following experience is also beneficial:

  • Programming skills in one or several languages are a plus.
  • Experience in the use of Ansys or equivalent structural FEM software.

You will provide your FE expertise to successfully deliver our projects, in collaboration with our team of talented engineers and problem solvers.

 

The key responsibilities will include a selection of the following points, depending on your technical experience and the position you take within our team:

 

  • Conduct and review analysis of complex structures carried out in FEM packages (experience in using Ansys beneficial).
  • Analysing structures in dynamic scenarios, including for seismic and blast events.
  • Post-processing data and results to deliver reinforced concrete designs.
  • Contributing to the improvement of our engineering processes, including our in house programmed tools which are developed in a range of programming languages.
  • Coordinating and communicating on complex engineering problems between project teams.
  • Providing technical leadership and direction for teams of FE analysts
  • Aiding with the training and upskilling our current team of analysts.

 

 

Your Profile
