Tractebel is part of a consortium in charge of the design and detailing of the reinforced concrete structures of the Nuclear Island of Hinkley Point C (HPC) Nuclear Power Plant, currently one of the world’s largest construction projects. HPC is set to be the benchmark for future construction of similar projects in the UK such as Sizewell C (SZC).

Your role

As ‘Junior Fire Safety Engineer’, you will be in charge of the following activities, in close relation with the Project Managers, the Fire Experts, the Client (external & internal): 

  • participate to feasibility studies, design studies, modification studies of fire, explosion and internal flooding protection installations, following applicable regulations and standards or in house methodologies; 

  • participation to audits and diagnostic of fire, explosion and internal flooding protection installations; 

  • with the support of a Senior Fire Safety Engineer, perform internal fire, explosion and flooding calculation and simulation studies: 

  • perform risk analysis following applicable methods and determine suitable and pragmatic recommendations that cope with the project and client’s objectives/constraints; 

  • perform risk analysis defining scenario and identifying assumptions, choice of the correct model, collection and implementation of the data into the model, calculations, analysis of the results, drafting the synthesis; 

  • validate the coherence between the required and existing protection/detection means. 

  • include requirements from other competence centres, project safety referential, plant safety report, insurer, codes, norms, standards and regulations; 

  • check study compliance with on-site situation (walk-downs), include the Return of Experience (REX) and draft the reports; 

  • determine and recommend suitable on site adaptations (protection/detection means); 

  • present and share analyses with the client; 

  • ensure budget, planning and studies scope are compliant with project and client requirements; 

  • participate to equipment and services procurement with the support of a buyer and a Senior Fire Engineer: 

  • writing technical specifications; 

  • preparation of the call For tenders: Technical Requisition File (TRF), Design Review with the Client, Draft Purchase Order, sourcing strategy; 

  • launch the call for tenders and review of the supplier’s bids; 

  • perform the technical clarifications/bid alignment, and support the procurement stakeholders during the commercial negotiations with the suppliers; 

  • award Purchase Orders (PO); 

  • contract Management: follow-up of the contractor’s activities including associated reporting: review studies, manufacturing in close cooperation with the quality monitoring stakeholders and with the client, installation on-site and start-up, follow-up of the payment schedule and prospective variation orders; 

  • perform contract closure activities: provisional acceptance, punch list, contractor’s evaluation, after action review and REX. 

 

You will collaborate actively with your colleagues from Project Management and Competence Centre departments, and build a close relationship while working for the same goal, actively developing cross department projects for your Clients.

Your profile

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements: 

  • you have the drive to become a technical expert in this field; 

  • you recently graduated from university holding a relevant master level engineering degree (Mechanical engineer, Fire safety Engineer, Nuclear Engineer is an asset); 

  • you are familiar with fire safety and/or fluid mechanics modelling; 

  • you are proficient with calculation & simulation software (Magic, Sylvia, FDS/Pyrosim, Flashcat, or equivalent); 

  • you master the English language (any knowledge of French, though not required, would be a plus); 

  • you hold or are eligible to hold BPSS level clearance; 

  • you possess good computer and data processing skills; 

  • you are able to draft reports, technical papers, and synthesis documents; 

  • you have the ability to work autonomously, but are not afraid to ask questions; 

  • you have an inquisitive and critical mind; 

  • you are flexible and creative in finding technical solutions; 

  • you are methodical, conscientious, organized, team-player, innovative, client-oriented.

Your job

 

As a Civil Engineer and steelworks specialist, you will ensure the technical coordination between all the stakeholders involved in the Steelworks design and construction (the designers, the client and the contractors):

  • You manage the structural integrity assessment activity of the Steelworks for new build nuclear power plants;
  • You deal with the requests raised by the contractors during the nuclear plant construction (i.e., requests for information, field change requests and non-conformance reports) with the support of the back-office or senior team member if necessary;
  • You prepare the technical response document to the requests, ensuring the respect of quality and deadlines;
  • You assist the client in meetings and technical discussions;
  • You perform or adapt the design of steel structure components and connexions such as anchorage;
  • You coordinate with CAD designer to finalise the detail design package for procurement and construction;
  • You check and validate SW deliverables (calculation reports, drawings) produced by the back-office;
  • You ensure the coordination with other disciplines (civils, layout, piping, etc.);
  • You may participate to site visits in order to analyse potential issues or requests;
  • You will be a member of an integrated team to work on the project;
  • You will report to the area pilot.

 

Your profile

 

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution);
  • Working towards or have chartership status with either the ICE or the IStructE;
  • Experience of the Design of seismically classified steelworks structures from concept to detailed design delivery;
  • Experience in reinforced concrete calculation and design is a significant plus;
  • Experience in nuclear or complex industrial projects;
  • Working familiarity with relevant technical Codes of Practice and industry Standards (Eurocodes and British Standard, ETC-C);
  • Knowledge of the design of anchorages;
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant health and safety regulations;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

You will work within a team in charge of the engineering and design of the metallic structures (PTLS: pools, tanks, liners and sumps) necessary to the leak tightness and containment of the nuclear island systems and structures, in the framework of the construction of new nuclear power plants (Hinkley Point C).

 

 

Job profile

As a PTLS Mechanical Engineer you will ensure the technical direction and coordination between all the stakeholders involved in the PTLS design and construction (the designers, the client and the contractors):

 

  • You manage the structural integrity assessment activity of PTLS for new build nuclear power plants.
  • You deal with the requests raised by the contractors during the nuclear plant construction (i.e., requests for information, field change requests and non-conformance reports) with the support of the back-office if necessary.
  • You prepare the technical response document to the requests, ensuring the respect of quality and delays.
  • You assist the client in meetings and technical discussions.
  • You conduct the technical and commercial follow-up of the back-offices and act as a SPOC between the client and the back-office.
  • You check and validate all the PTLS deliverables (calculation reports, drawings) produced by the back-office.
  • You ensure the coordination with other disciplines (civils, layout, equipment, etc.).
  • You report to the PTLS team leader.
  • You perform possible temporary missions in France and/or Belgium or assignments to our client’s integrated team.

 

 

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Education: A mechanical engineering degree (MSc/ MEng) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; Achieved or working towards Chartership (CEng).
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in structural analysis and design of mechanical components, preferably within metallic structures in the nuclear industry.

 

  • Skills:

o You are familiar with international codes and standards (Eurocodes, RCC-M, ASME).

o You are experienced in general purpose finite element and structural design software (such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, SYSTUS...) for static or dynamic loading, linear or non-linear analysis.

o You have a sound knowledge of steel structures and connection design (welds), material behaviour, finite elements analysis and general mechanical design.

o You are able to understand and interpret calculation reports and mechanical design drawings.

o You have notions of reinforced concrete behaviour/design.

o You are proficient in drafting technical documents.

o You are proficient in English language. Knowledge of French is a plus.

Your job

We are looking for a motivated Civil Engineer to work on the design and construction of the Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC) nuclear powerplants.

Your responsibilities will include analysing the input data received from the Client, investigating previous calculations, performing structural calculation on ANSYS software, preparation or updating of the associated reports.

Depending on the project you will be affected (HPC or SZC), you will be involved in the activities undertaken by our local team, which will include:

 

 

HPC project:

  • Respond to civil works contractor’s queries related to the design packages released by the Back-Office;
  • Analyse Request For Information (RFI) and provide clarification to the site;
  • Analyse Field Change Requests (FCR) from the site and assess their feasibility;
  • Analyse Non-Conformance Report (NCR) from the civil works contractor and assess the proposed repair solution or propose additional measures;
  • Provide quick assessment on reinforcement concrete issues (hand calculations);
  • Perform or adapt Ansys Finite Element Models (FEM) in response to FCR and NCR.

 

 

SZC project

  • Analyse the input received from the SZC Client,
  • Liaise with the SZC Client to obtain the clarification needed,
  • Liaise with the Tractebel HPC France Office to understand the previous calculations performed on HPC,
  • Perform (or adapt) Ansys Finite Element Models (FEM) calculation on SZC project;
  • Write down the SZC associated reports.
  • Keep an interrogative attitude during all the process and be able to challenge the input and the results, based on your engineering judgement.

 

 

 

Your profile

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

The ‘Radioprotection, Radwaste and Decommissioning’ Competence Centre, which is part of the DECOM Department, is responsible for all Engineering aspects in the field of:

  • Radiation Protection;
  • Radiation Monitoring;
  • Radiological Characterization;
  • Radioactive Waste Management (both waste from operational and from dismantling activities);
  • Decommissioning Concepts (Dismantling Tools & Techniques, Conceptual Design Studies, …).

 

The team ‘Radiological Characterization’ is in charge of all activities related to:

  • the radiological characterization of building, structure and equipment in a nuclear installation through measurements and sampling campaigns;
  • the final radiological characterization of operational and dismantling waste (packages) produced during operation, post-operation and dismantling phases of a nuclear installation. This including, among others, the set-up of strategies/methodologies for the characterization processes, the selection and procurement of measurement systems to characterize radioactive and (un)conditional release waste (packages), the definition of scaling factors/activities for different waste streams.

 

You will be part of the development of the D&D activity in the UK supporting local projects and clients. In parallel you will contribute to back office activities carried out for Engie Electrabel (Belgium) and other national and international Clients. It provides high-level engineering and consultancy services. The team interacts with the other teams of the Competence Centre (CC), with the other CC’s and the other Products of the Global Business Area Nuclear. Its members work in close relationship with the final Client and interact with the Safety Authorities and the radioactive Waste Management Agencies.

 

Because of the strong increase of the business activity, we are looking for motivated Engineers to contribute in our day-to-day challenges as well as in our long-term objectives.

 

Your job

As ‘Design Engineer Radiological Characterization’, you are responsible for the sound roll-out of all the projects, tasks and responsibilities entrusted to you. In close collaboration with your colleagues and your team lead, you contribute to the preparation of bids, the Engineering Studies and the projects in the field of Radiological Characterization.

 

Your responsibilities are:

  • conducting radiological characterization studies according to the needs and the expertise level expected by the dedicated authorities;
  • developing and applying strong capabilities with computer codes such as MicroShield, MCNP or RayXpert but also in-house Python calculation codes;
  • writing technical specifications and follow-up of orders for the procurement of measurement systems and radiological campaigns;
  • developing a strong expertise in the field of the radiological characterization based on national and international references;
  • share your knowledge and experience with Clients and colleagues to ensure alignment concerning the work to be realized and setting the right expectations;
  • maintaining the knowledge, expertise and methodologies required to accomplish your missions;
  • delivering ‘quality on time’: in order to achieve this objective, you will get all support required in terms of technical training, coaching and availability of (IT) resources;
  • verifying work performed by your colleagues guarantying the expected high quality level;
  • correctly applying the Integrated Management System (IMS) procedures;
  • providing regular feedback concerning ongoing activities to your team lead and your hierarchy, while working autonomously towards the goals defined for you;
  • identifying and implementing possible synergies with other teams and/or CC’s;
  • contributing to the preparation of technical bids;
  • providing (internal) presentations and trainings;
