Context:

 

The Ammonia Trader position will be based in Singapore and will have responsibility for the global trade of ammonia. The primary focus of the role will be to lead, manage, and develop a physical ammonia trading book in the short term, while also working to build a long-term platform for the development of low-carbon fuels.

Key Responsibilities

Market Analysis:

  • Monitor the global ammonia markets to identify short term and long term trading opportunities
  • Analyse market trends, S-D balances, trade flows and pricing to inform trading strategies
  • Conduct market research and gather intelligence to stay updated on industry developments
  • Support and provide market inputs to the development of long term deal structures

 

Trading Operations:

  • Negotiate contracts, terms and conditions with counterparties
  • Execute trade orders for ammonia, ensure optimal timing and pricing
  • Monitor and manage trading positions and exposures, ensuring compliance with policies and risk limits
  • Monitor credit limits, manage working capital deployment to optimise capital deployed
  • Manage the carbon certification system / process necessary for low carbon ammonia
  • Ensure all trading activities are conducted in compliance with the regulations and internal policies applicable, including tax, trade compliance and health and safety
  • Develop and submit the annual business plan as per internal planning cycle timelines

 

Relationship management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, customers and other market participants
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as logistics, finance and compliance to ensure smooth trading operations

 

Logistics and supply chain

  • Coordinate with the operations and freight teams, logistics and transportation of ammonia in timely and cost effective manner
  • Manage inventory levels to meet market demands and contractual obligations
  • Ensure all vessels and terminals are vetted as per the company standards prior to use

 

Risk management:

  • Monitor changes in market conditions, volatility to adapt trading strategies to remain within risk limits
  • Develop hedging strategies and deploy as needed to optimise portfolio risk / return
  • Coordinate with the operations teams to ensure all periodic audits for safety and handling procedures are completed in due time

 

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Ensure all data related to trades are captured in the relevant system and are reflected accurately
  • Provide necessary inputs for regular reports on trading performance, market outlook and P & L
  • Provide insights and recommendation to senior managers on trading results and market outlooks

Required qualifications

Level of Education

 Bachelors degree in economics , Finance or related fields

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Analytical thinker, ability to deal with complex market arrangements and to understand and specify models and analysis required to support commercial decisions and understand market conditions
  • Strong decision-making skills – ability to make sound and timely business decisions even when working to very tight deadlines, including taking responsibility for decisions
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting priorities
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (verbal and written) and represent the company to external stakeholders

SPECIFIC BUSINESS UNDERSTANDING

  • Around 8 to 10 years with 3-5yrs of experience in commodities trading in ammonia, chemicals / fertiliser sector preferably. LPG , LNG experience can be considered if regional expertise are relevant
  • Strong track record and stake holder network in the relevant trading regions
  • Strong market knowledge, supply – demand balances, trade flows and macro fundamentals of the ammonia  industry
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret / analyse market data and trend to draw insights
  • Excellent knowledge on commodity contract structures and how to negotiate and operate them
  • Working knowledge of shipping and logistics management
  • Knowledge on emerging carbon standards and certification requirements for low carbon products preferred
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements for Ammonia trading
  • Understanding of risk management principles, regulatory and trade compliance requirements
