About the Role:

The Commercial Development Engineer delivers the technical detail required for National Grid (ESO) tenders for commercial market products for First Hydro. Example provided Mid-term Stability Product. Commercial products transform Pump / Turbine Unit capability and availability into income from market schemes proposed by National Grid.

These products are becoming increasingly technical as the ESO seeks confirmation of Unit capability, performance modelling under operational circumstance and compliance with Grid Code obligations. This delivery of technical detail requires the translation of tender requirements, confirmation that generators shall be compliant with product requirements and the submission of completed tenders to the ESO.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Capture and maintenance of export prospect and contract data in systems.
  • Support internal stakeholders (e.g. Pricing, Demand Forecasting, Retail Hedging) in delivering optimal service to the Commercial Team.
  • Understanding customer through data analysis and interaction and delivery of services that customers want and value. Using data and technical knowledge to drive improvements in understanding customers.
  • Understanding complex contractual arrangements and translating those into operable billing models, and being the main source of information about them should stakeholders need it.
  • Provide flows of data to internal and external stakeholders and influence them by using technical knowledge to provide compelling intelligence/insights.
  • Quotation preparation to respond to export requests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Correct use and maintenance of pricing models and documents to be used during the Pricing Process.
  • Correct use and maintenance of billing models and documents to be used during the Billing Process.
  • Support the monitoring and reporting on electricity Export activity and margin.
  • Support the development of new/amended export products.
  • Support the operation of existing customer contracts.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Continuous Improvement Processes for Export.
  • Support the delivery of excellent customer service to Export customers and the development of customer relationships and profitability. Understand and influence customers in a positive and compelling way.
  • Develop tools and processes to assist with current and new products.
  • Carry out analysis to improve knowledge and intelligence of market/customers.
  • Adherence to internal processes and risk frameworks.
  • Management and co-ordination of the Feed in Tariff process, including FiT Account Management, liaising with Ofgem for query resolution, development and generation of internal reports for compliance purposes, and assistance with internal and external audits of the Scheme.
  • Review and update operating procedures based on feedback from audits, incident reports, operational investigations and from those performing the tasks.

Skills/Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience in the UK energy (power and gas) market, specifically the renewable sector.
  • Experience of delivering high levels of customer service through efficient operations.
  • Highly numerate – this role will involve understanding, changing, and creating mathematical models to reflect complex contractual arrangements.
  • Analytical skills and the ability to turn data into intelligence.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well with others across the Retail business.
  • Able to demonstrate a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of export retail pricing and billing policies/methodologies and systems.
  • Knowledge of export market and products.
  • Knowledge of embedded benefits and regulations.
  • Microsoft Office proficient.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Feed in Tariff Scheme, legislation and regulatory framework.
  • Experience working with customers and/or renewables developers.
  • Demonstrable experience of effective communication.
  • Demonstrable numeracy and analytical skills.
