The opportunity:
The Global Energy Management & Sales (GEMS) business unit is the fully integrated trading arm of the ENGIE Group. GEMS teams manage ENGIE’s highly diversified energy portfolio and provide a range of trading risk management solutions to all types of market participants in Europe, Asia Pacific and in the Americas.
You will be joining a relatively new local player in the Australian energy market, presenting an opportunity for you to be a part of a new team, that is building the foundations of our commercial franchise - driving our growth strategy and enhancing our market presence.

The Origination team is responsible for securing high value structured power, renewable, carbon and environmental transactions, promoting risk management solutions and market access services to wholesale clients and counterparts.
The newly created position reports to the Head of Origination GEMS ANZ, and will suit a senior analyst with extensive knowledge of Australian energy markets and its on-going transition.
The Senior Commercial Analyst is adept at telling a numbers led story; providing market insights to support the performance of the Originations team, contributing to strategic decision, by leveraging multiple data sources and insights and , supporting stakeholder management.
The Origination team works alongside the Trading and Supply teams. It enjoys a hybrid working environment and an inclusive and collaborative approach to doing business together, sharing ideas and knowledge.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
To provide critical analysis and insights to aid in the origination and structuring of new business opportunities within the Australian electricity market:
- Conduct in-depth market research on supply-demand dynamics, pricing, competitors’ behaviour and regulatory changes to inform commercial strategy with emerging insights
- Develop reports and dashboards to monitor market data and support origination activities
- Build and update financial models to evaluate new business opportunities, monitor deals performance, and assess risks / returns of different structuring options
- Provide accurate and timely data analysis for structuring and executing deals, and contribute in pre-transaction due diligence
- Monitor clients feedback, portfolio performance and market developments.
About you:
- Excellent commercial analytical skills, capable of finding a deal amongst lemons.
- Good storytelling aptitude to distill complex data into coherent narratives. Degree / masters qualified in Economics, actuarial studies, engineering, or related field
- Demonstrated experience as an Energy market or Trading analyst, preferably within the National Electricity Market.
- Proven expertise in energy market analysis, including knowledge of electricity market structures, regulations, and market participants
- Solid commercial acumen within the thermal, hybrid, renewable or storage sector; experience of PPA in BESS, Wind and Solar power stations is advantageous.
- Strong commercial skills with proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques
- Display respect for and value health, safety, ethical work practices and all applicable policies
