1.  JOB DETAILS:

Mechanical Engineer Trainee

Reports to:

Lead Mechanical Engineer

2.  JOB PURPOSE:

 

The Mechanical Engineer Trainee will manage all mechanical maintenance activities; developing short and long-term maintenance strategies, and ensuring day-to-day efficient plant management etc. under the supervision of Lead Mechanical Engineer. He will ensure the plant meets availability, reliability, efficiency, generation, and cost targets while adhering to company rules, legal, contractual, and environmental requirements. The candidate will also establish procedures and computerized maintenance management processes and coordinate with other departments.

 

3.  KEY Responsibilities:

Description

 

•     Plan and execute maintenance activities for mechanical systems and equipment in the power plant based on OEM recommendations, industry standards, or Best Practices.

•     Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain occupational safety standards in all maintenance activities.

•     Provide technical guidance and support to a team of 7 Mechanical Technicians to ensure smooth functioning of the power plant.

•     Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues and implement repairs as needed, ensuring minimal downtime.

•     Work with other engineers and technicians to ensure that mechanical systems are functioning effectively and efficiently.

•     Develop and implement maintenance schedules for mechanical systems and equipment, prioritizing maintenance activities to minimize downtime.

•     Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure the availability of necessary equipment and materials.

•     Ability to read and interpret technical drawings to identify maintenance requirements and execute repairs.

•     Coordinate with other maintenance and operations departments to ensure the smooth functioning of the power plant.

•     Maintain documentation related to maintenance activities.

 

4.  HEALTH & SAFETY:

 

  • The Job Holder will work in a controlled hazardous environment.

 

Work Levels and Conditions and Risks:

  • Work Level 5 (OSHA scale 1 to 6): the tasks that he performs as part of their daily work activities represent risks and are controlled by means of procedures, supervision, safety devices and HSE Teams in such a way that its non-observance that could lead to a serious accident of even death.

 

Exposure to Risks:

  • Traffic/automobile accidents, ergonomic problems and accidents;
  • Risks inherent to the job of the Mechanical Engineer while performing inspections, site visits, operations and maintenance activities, etc.

 

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Hard hat/safety helmet;
  • Ear protection (plugs or ear muffs);
  • Safety glasses;
  • Safety shoes;
  • Dust mask;
  • Cotton coveralls;
  • Safety Gloves;
  • Cotton vest;
  • Respiratory mask.

 

Recommended HPE (Health Protection Equipment):

  • Ergonomic office equipment;

 

Medical Exams/Laboratory Exams before Taking the Position:

  • Complete medical physical examination;
  • Visual acuity examination.
  • Color blindness test
  • PFT (lung capacity)
  • Audiometric test

 

Medical Criteria for the Position:

  • High Blood Pressure: not to present a TA greater than 135/85 in case of present alteration and individual monitoring program;
  • Obesity: in case of obesity, implement a monitoring and reduction of weight program.

 

5.  JOB CONTEXT:

  • Dhuruma O&M company Ltd operates a combined cycle power facility with 1729 MW of power capacity. The company has two shareholders: Kahrabel FZE, with Head Office in Dubai and Aljomaih Energy & Water Company Limited, with Head Office in Riyadh.
  • Dhuruma O&M company Ltd performs services through an O&M agreement for the Owner of the power facility: Dhuruma Electricity Company.
  • The project is a Greenfield IPP with a 20 year PPA with single off-taker (SEC) on BOO basis.
  • The Job Holder will be based at Dhuruma power plant (PP11), 125 km West of Riyadh;
  • The Job Holder works closely with the Mechanical Technicians to ensure the Plant Routines are actioned efficiently and to high quality standards;
  • The Job Holder is required to understand and promptly act upon oral operational instructions, respond effectively in pressure situations, make quick decisions in the event of breakdown or failure to safeguard the plant, manage stress, assess and change operational parameters with minimal supervision, coordinate and follow up on maintenance activities ensuring high levels of safety and compliance with procedures.

 

 

7.  COMMUNICATION, TRAINING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Job Holder will work and communicate with:

  • Internal: The Maintenance, Operation, Engineering, Administration, Finance and Accounting, HR, HSE.

The Job Holder will undergo training as below:

  • This is a self-learning and learning by doing process, guided by a mentor.

Evaluation

  • The trainee will undergo quarterly evaluation of the progress under certain set criteria.
  • The final evaluation will consist of a presentation of the summary of learnings during the traineeship.

 

8.  FRAMEWORKS, BOUNDARIES AND DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:

  • Operates within the approved budgetary limits;

 

9.  JOB DIMENSIONS:

Position Title of the Line Manager

  • Lead Mechanical Engineer

Approximate number of people supervised and their position titles:

  • 7 Mechanical Technicians

Designation after successful completion of Traineeship

  • Assistant Mechanical Engineer

 

10.  QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • An accredited Engineering degree
  • Demonstrated competence at graduate level with adequate exposure to the various concepts of Mechanical Engineering.

 

 

Experience:

  • Fresh graduate or up to 5 year of relevant experience in Mechanical Maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Power plant cycles would be an added advantage.

 

Skills:

 

Behavioral:

 

  • Ability to learn fast, and willingness to take initiative.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English.
  • Technical knowledge of gas turbines, boilers, steam turbines, pumps, and compressors.
  • Familiarity with the Permit to Work system.
  • Ability to handle a team of Technicians.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations related to mechanical systems and equipment.

 

Language:

 

  • English Language: excellent communication skills both written and verbal;

 

Computer:

 

  • Computer literate: must have a high degree of skill in Business Computing Applications such as Word Processors, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint;
