First Hydro Company operates 2 pumped storage power stations in North Wales. With a combined peak generating capacity of over 2000 MW these two power stations have reliably supported the UK’s national electricity supply network for decades. Now, the frequently changing demand for electricity with an increasing contribution from renewable sources makes reliable and flexible storage capacity key to delivering clean and reliable energy supplies for the future.

Alongside our generation commitments we are undertaking an exciting programme of major refurbishment at both our power stations to ensure that they continue to meet demand long into the future.

THE ROLE

Providing support and advice to all aspects of the business, including engineering and project works at all our locations.   The role will maintain and improve existing quality, environmental and health and safety (QEHS) management systems to ensure full compliance with all applicable statutory, regulatory and Company standards and targets.

To ensure that QEHS issues are incorporated into all business decisions. To develop a positive and proactive QEH&S culture and productive working relationships across the organisation.

There may be a requirement to provide QEHS supervision at weekends and nights during periods of high activity and high hazard potential.

ABOUT YOU

You will hold a Level 6 academically recognised qualification or above relating to health and safety and have, or be working towards Chartered membership of IOSH (CMIOSH).  You will also have an IEMA Foundation Certificate.

You will ideally knowledge in the following areas:

• In depth understanding of the principles of health, safety and wellbeing including a good understanding of effective management techniques;
• Demolition and construction methodologies;
• Knowledge of External Standards - ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001;
• Auditing experience;
• Managing conflicting and demanding priorities with excellent organisational skills;
• Excellent customer focus and delivery;
• Good influencing skills and able to deliver success through others. Ability to motivate and inspire others;
• Commercial awareness and judgement;
• Excellent IT and presentational skills;
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to share expectations and develop strong working relationships with internal and external customers;
• Challenge teams and individuals on issues relating to health and safety, the environment and quality;
• A good team player willing to work with all parts of the business, treating colleagues fairly and consistently;
• Strives for technical excellence in own area of expertise;
• Self-motivated and results orientated;

LOCATION

It is expected that the candidates would need to work at both Dinorwig andFfestiniog power stations, in addition to our warehouse facility at Parc Menai, all located in the Snowdonia (Eryri) region of Wales.

SECURITY CLEARANCE

First Hydro Company operate key infrastructure projects in the UK and may require successful applicant to undertake national security vetting
