 PRODUCTION DIRECTOR – AL HIDD POWER  

Al Hidd Power - Kingdom of Bahrain

Hidd Power Company (HPC) is a ‘Build, Own and operate’ power generation and water desalination plant with a total contracted capacity of 929 MW power and 90 MIGD of desalinated water located on the North East coast of Bahrain. In 2006, HPC was sold by the Government of Bahrain, via public tender to a consortium of International Power plc, GDF SUEZ Energy International and Sumitomo Corporation. HPC is amongst the largest independent water and power projects in Bahrain, providing approximately 30% and 40% of the Kingdom’s current power and water supply respectively. The entire power and water output of HPC is contracted until 2027 under a Power and Water Purchase Agreement with the Electricity and Water Authority of Bahrain. HPC is 40% owned by Malakoff, 30% by International Power and 30% by Sumitomo.

 

Area of Responsibility         

 

The Production Director is responsible to develop and manage the O&M process so as to maintain the assets HSE and availability. Assure that the site is organized to meet his production objectives, rated output and efficiency, maintenance needs, and legal and environmental constraints.

 

Reporting Line      

 

The Production Director will report to the CEO of the HPC Company and to the Chief Operating Officer - GCC (UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar). He will closely interact with the company’s shareholders to benefit from their long experience of sizeable and well diversified portfolio, huge pool of resources & expertise in related fields and strong presence in the Middle East.

 

Direct Reports

 

•             Maintenance Manager.

•             Operations Manager.

 

Principal Functions              

 

Develop, manage and administer operations and maintenance, thus in order to:  

 

•             Assure competitiveness of the power station in terms of availability, marginal costs and technical characteristics, 

•             Compliance with laws, consents and permits, and internal standards. 

•             Meet operational results of the Company in line with dispatching defined by the Grid Authority.

•             Ensure timely data collection for plant performance and optimization as well as invoicing.

•             Manage and administer fuel supply agreement.

•             Manage and administer the Power and Water Purchase Agreement.

•             Manage and administer the LTSA.

•             Responsible for managing and maintaining relationships with Governmental Organizations including but not limited to EWA, BAPCO, etc. and communications with Board of Directors

•             Manage the implementation of improvement projects in the assets after their commissioning in order to improve marginal costs, output, and availability and reduce safety and Environmental hazards in order to finally improve the operational results of the Company.

•             Meet project targets in terms of quality, schedule and costs so as to meet the general assumptions and basis of the business plan.

•             Manage and administer health and safety, and environmental matters of the Company in order to assure the compliance with quality, environmental and safety standards adhered to by the Company.

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

•             University Degree in an engineering discipline or a University Degree supported by a strong background in the energy sector with an MBA.

 

Language

 

•             Fluent English is mandatory.

•             Knowledge of Arabic is a plus.

 

Experience

 

•             Minimum 10 years relevant working experience in power generation facilities.

•             Experience with CCGT power plants is preferred. Experience with desalination plants is a plus.

•             Experience with a multi-national corporation in a cross-cultural environment is a plus.

•             Experience in Bahrain is a plus.

 

Competencies      

 

•             Develop and manage budgets.

•             Administer commercial contracts.

•             Resolve complex technical issues, plan and organize major overhauls.

•             Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication, negotiation, team management and coordination skills.

•             Work in a multicultural environment and multidisciplinary teams.

•             Work independently with minimal support. 

 

Technology

 

•             Proficiency in IT user (Windows, SAP) and intermediate applications (Office).

 

 

Location/travel      

 

•             Bahrain with travels inside and outside the GCC.
