Position Context:

The GEM Finance division is hiring a Business Controller for the “BP Clients” Business Platform in Paris. You will join a bi-localized team, the FinOps BP Clients team, composed of Business Controllers covering the Group’s key account activities in Europe.

The Finance and Operations (FinOps) “BP Clients” team is responsible for monitoring the P&L of the “BP Clients” Business Platform, part of the GEMS entity, and ensuring accurate end-of-month reporting (IFRS and local GAAP).

As part of GEMS, BP Clients guarantees the physical sourcing of gas and electricity for ENGIE’s key accounts. It also involves significant market access activities. This position primarily focuses on power-related activities in France, including purchasing and selling electricity contracts and managing power imbalances.

Role and Responsibilities:

This role encompasses two distinct responsibilities:

  1. Business Controller:

    • Monthly financial closures
    • Budget exercises
    • Results consolidation
    • Process optimization
    • Cash flow analysis and optimization
  2. Middle Officer:

    • Monitoring Front-Office generated P&L
    • Actively contributing to daily P&L reporting
    • Daily explanation and validation of P&L with Front-Office
    • Bridging accounting figures

Key Tasks:

  • Calculate turnover accruals with validation from the Customer Journey Team and work on automating this process
  • Manage the relationship with ATS, ensuring accurate integration of imbalance data into the S-P calculation and challenging ATS data based on S-P analysis
  • Understand and analyze the S-P, routing, and other aspects related to power activities, integrating data coherently into the P&L calculation
  • Track issues related to reference points and models impacting the scope and integrate these into the backlog

Monthly Account Closing:

  • Control postings sent to SAP by you or the accounting teams
  • Reconcile, investigate, and correct intercompany and intra-company breaks
  • Ensure consistency between economic P&L and accounting P&L by building an eco-accounting bridge and investigating unexplained differences with country referents
  • Provide reports to administration and auditors
  • Report and follow closing issues, offering transversal solutions and optimized tools
  • Collaborate closely with Belgian controllers to build backup solutions and standard processes
  • Monitor the cash position (BFR) and conduct analyses
  • Validate the consistency of figures through business understanding
  • Analyze C3S between costs and revenue as per contractual agreements
  • Maintain tracking of securitization costs, including EURIBOR/securitization costs/amount in securitization
  • Understand contracts in detail and challenge allocations with E&C to correctly attribute P&L to BP Clients
  • Manage CRM (Capacity Remuneration Mechanism) effectively, including accurate accounting, tracking, provisioning, P&L attribution, and comprehensive explanation

Preparation of Monthly Business Reviews:

  • Provide timely, accurate, validated, and relevant information and business reporting
  • Analyze YTD results, N-1 results, month-to-month variations, and best estimates using several Key Financial Indicators (S-P, Cash Flows, WCR) with contributions from Front-Office and digital tools (PBI)
  • Provide value-added analysis on the Margin P&L Breakdown using PBI
  • Ensure the quality of data in SAP and various PBIs related to your scope and the Deal to SAP process, including new contract setup
  • Conduct the Mid-Term Plan process, validating and challenging business assumptions

Digitalization and Change Management:

  • Support the standardization of BP Clients' closing processes
  • Propose process enhancements and tool automation where relevant
  • Provide deal-to-invoice support by assisting the invoicing team with new contract setup and follow-up
  • Support the development of new activities
  • Respond to all ad-hoc requests related to your scope of activity

Methodology and Collaboration:

  • Follow the Continuous Improvement methodology used by FinOps BP Clients, conducting root cause analysis for each problem, defining corrective actions, and following up on their implementation
  • Collaborate closely with Front-Office teams and maintain regular contact with Back-Office, Accounting, and Risk teams
  • Handle accounting topics related to market finance products such as hedges and options
  • Understand the energy supply chain for power
  • Work with trading-oriented systems (Orchestrade)
  • Engage deeply with SAP setup and any updates on the deal-to-invoice chain

Hard Skills:

  • Advanced Excel skills and an efficient IT mindset; eager to develop solutions easily shared across teams
  • Proficient in creating user-friendly tools in Excel
  • Knowledge of business analytics tools like Power BI is an asset
  • Experience with SAP is required; knowledge of consolidation software is an asset

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills
  • Rigorous yet pragmatic under critical deadlines
  • Proactive and curious
  • Interest in the energy sector and commodity markets

Education and Professional Background:

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or an Engineering background with a proven interest in finance

Languages:

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English and French
