1.  KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Day to day efficient planning and management of all plant maintenance activities through a team of site based staff according to good utility practice, dispatch instructions, the company rules and procedures, OEM guidelines, legal, environmental, contractual and other requirements;
  • Lead a team of maintenance engineers and technicians. Exercise complete administrative control of maintenance team. Set individual and departmental objective,
  • Oversee planning process for daily activities and coordinate with operations department,
  • Develop short and long term maintenance strategy for the plant.
  • Develop and implement preventative and corrective maintenance program;
  • Drive use of Maximo asset management system for Preventative and corrective maintenance program;
  • Ensure the maintenance department staff is selected, mobilized and maintained as required;
  • Liaise with and provide support to local site based LTMC resident engineer(s) for day to day activities. Follow up on the activities long term maintenance contracts.
  • Promote safety culture, ensuring that all activities are carried out safely with proper hazard analysis and risk mitigation procedures in place.
  • Ensure that the plant meets safety, availability, reliability, efficiency, generation and budget target;
  • Ensures reporting as per contractual and business requirement;
  • Responsible for the maintenance QA/QC and local root cause analysis program;
  • Comply and input to the safe systems of work through a computerised management program;
  • Establish, implement and monitor the adherence to maintenance procedures and routines;
  • Develop, achieve and report maintenance KPI’s and objectives;
  • Efficient management of resources, supplies and consumables while controlling the risks to the business;
  • Key role in management of the plant maintenance contracts,
  • Prepare, control, analyse and report on the yearly and long term budget and business plan for the maintenance dept. to the various stakeholders through reporting KPI’s;
  • Ensure reporting to all stakeholders as required;
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with Administration, Operation, Finance, and SHEQ
  • Establish and facilitate training programs for maintenance team development and competence within the maintenance department;
  • Ensure skills transfer and the development of capable staff within the maintenance department
  • Execute scheduled outages through effective resource allocation.
  • Organize performance evaluation and succession planning for key staff in the maintenance department;
  • Adhere and participate in establishing, implementing and executing Quality, Health, Safety and Environment policies and standards;
  • Maintain high standards of management, ethics and leadership;
  • Continuously improve systems and procedures
  • Ensure compliance to change management procedure.
  • Suggest plant upgrade and modification proposals.
  • Produce, evaluate, analyze and transmit to relevant functions pertinent reports, relating to cost, progress on maintenance activities on the plant.

 

2.  QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Essential Qualifications:

  • An accredited Mechanical/Electrical/I&C Engineering degree
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) preferable, or must be willing to obtain once in the role.  
  • Demonstrated competence at engineering level supported by relevant education and training

 

Experience:

  • At least 10 year experience in the maintenance of a large power plant
  • Knowledge and experience of Gas Turbine maintenance schedule, v94.2 units preferred.
  • Leading and managing people

  • Use of computerized management system
  • Engineering concepts and principles
  • Interaction with Purchasing, Finance and Accounting, Maintenance, Administration
  • Budget control and reporting
