THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The Operational Support Department “Responsible Designer” is responsible for:

  • Maintaining the specialized knowledge of the design and their competence in the design process of Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs);
  • Having a good knowledge of the plant designs in order to be able to offer its engineering products or services in the field of designing, building and modernization of NPPs;
  • The good working and animation (as process owner) of several nuclear safety processes, such as the Regulatory Watch process, the modification process, the Return of Experience (REX) process;
  • Delivering clear and independent advice(s) concerning potential safety issues, plant modifications and design reviews;
  • Promoting the Safety Culture and the correct application of rules and regulations.  

 

To perform her/his role, the Responsible Designer Engineer:

  • Will work closely with, but independently from the different technical disciplines of Tractebel;
  • Will work in close cooperation with the Design Authority of Engie Electrabel. 

 

your job

As a Responsible Designer Engineer, you will work in several of the following domains: 

  • Act as process owner for the following processes:
  • Modification files;
  • Regulation Watch;
  • REX;
  • Give independent advice(s) in several safety processes (Potential Safety Issues, Modifications Group, Design Reviews, REX,…). Organise and coordinate meetings with several experts from other technical disciplines if necessary;
  • Participate in Project Review meetings with Engie Electrabel;
  • Assist the Safety Officers for design aspects and confirm that nuclear safety requirements and standards are met;
  • Advice the Design Authority of Engie Electrabel in case of design issues and/or projects;
  • Assist the Design Authority of Engie Electrabel in case of meetings with the Authorities;
  • Draft Position Papers about design aspects of Engie Electrabel’s NPPs; 
  • Help management by identifying issues and their potential causes, and provide guidance on how these might be addressed, hereby also assessing the effectiveness of line management’s corrective actions;
  • Identify gaps with international best practices;
  • Take specific actions to assure that his/her knowledge of design is appropriately kept.

YOUR PROFILE

  • You have at least a master degree in Engineering. A degree in Nuclear Science constitutes an asset;
  • You are motivated by the field of nuclear engineering and eager to develop your knowledge of it;
  • You are a generalist, having knowledge of all technical disciplines to the extent enabling you to discuss on safety and design aspects related to these disciplines;
  • Experience in nuclear operation and/or maintenance, general nuclear safety approach, general nuclear design knowledge or one of the above mentioned domains constitutes a further asset;   
  • You have a good oral and written command of English and Dutch or French, willing to learn or improve your French or Dutch;
  • You have a critical and inquiring mind and are well-organized;
  • You are dynamic, rigorous and pragmatic;
  • You are able to write position papers and synthesis reports as well as clear and argumented safety positions;
  • You are a good listener and communicator, able to easily develop personal contacts;

Project description

You must be able to manage the various aspects relating to electrical power for construction or renovation projects at conventional and nuclear power stations.

 

Description de function

 

  • Take charge of design, use of calculation software’s, perform renovation and optimization studies for electrical systems, in compliance with local and international standards and regulations
  • Set out the ratings of equipment, technical specifications and the general design of electrical systems, including generators, generator protections, generator breakers, power transformers, MV and LV motors, AC and DC electrical boards, DC and Safe AC systems, emergency diesel generating sets, cabling,...
  • As Contract Owner take charge of the invitations to tender, the analysis and technical-commercial negotiation of bids as well as the awarding of contracts for the supply of electrical equipment or services
  • Oversee the management of interfaces relating to other technical disciplines or with the customer’s installation conduct a technical-commercial follow-up of contracts
  • Take part in factory tests, in the supervision of on-site assembly and in commissioning tests for electrical equipment or systems
  • Provide consulting in the field of electrical systems of nuclear and conventional generation units.
  • Keep an eye on changes on the market, best practices as well as advances in electrical/ nuclear standards and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in the improvement of methods used in the electrical engineering field for nuclear generation units

 

Your Profile

 

  • You have got a master of electrical or electromechanical engineering
  • Experience in the expertise domain, theorical understanding of stationary and transitory electrical laws and phenomena, deep knowledge of various electrical systems, ageing phenomena,…able to interpret interactions with mechanical aspects
  • You must have an interest in the analysis and research of solutions to a variety of technical problems in the area of electrical power systems
  • You have proficient knowledge of French/Dutch and a good grasp of English

In the context of the operation and lifetime extension of power plants (in Belgium and abroad), a lot of equipment have to be replaced and will be found obsolete. Suitable replacements have to be found and tested to conform to nuclear qualification requirements. Lifetime extension plans have to be defined to demonstrate the capacity of the equipment to go beyond their original lifetime. Furthermore, design upgrade projects required qualification of components to guarantee the safe operation of the plant.

Your job as Hardware Qualification Engineer will consist of:

  • Support to the utilities for the identification of obsolete components (through various methods including: contacts with the original supplier, stock analysis, etc.);
  • Managing contacts with the suppliers to evaluate alternative solutions;
  • Evaluating possible options for re-stocking; 
  • Research of substitute products for obsolete equipment;
  • Validate design changes between original and current equipment regarding nuclear safety;
  • Drafting of specifications and technical requisition files for purchasing of Instrumentation equipment;
  • Follow-up of factory acceptance test and examination of manufacturer records;
  • Meeting experts assigned by Suppliers, Client, Safety Authority...
  • Management of hardware qualification process of instrumentation equipment regarding nuclear safety;
  • Drafting of qualification programs and justifications according to current referential;
  • Evaluation and choice of test laboratories;
  • Placing of orders and follow up of the contract;
  • Follow-up of qualification tests;
  • Drafting and analysis of qualification reports;
  • Presenting and defending hardware qualification in front of the Client and the Belgian nuclear Safety Authority;
  • Performance of technical Audits of suppliers of qualified equipment in Belgium and abroad and draft audit reports;

Profile 

  • Civil/Industrial Engineer (electricity, electronics, electromechanics, …); 
  • Knowledge in electricity and/or instrumentation, quality assurance, standards,… is an asset;
  • Open to quality and safety cultures;
  • +4 years' Experience of professional experience in a similar job in a safety sector (nuclear / industry / railways / aeronautics, …..)
  • Knowledge/interest in the components composing the systems and how they operate;

THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The "Engineering Management" group, which is part of the “Technical Direction & Integration” Department of the Nuclear Global Business Area, provides engineering and consulting services in:

  • Technical Integration: issuing multidisciplinary synthesis reports and ensuring technical consistency of Nuclear project deliverables and technical excellence through coordination of the technical disciplines and  overall nuclear expertise, System Engineering;
  • Layout: integration of input from different technical disciplines and coordination of BIM Modellers / Draftsmen to achieve an optimum spatial arrangement for a new facility or modifications to existing plants, taking into account all project constraints including safety, constructability, economics, operations, maintenance, etc ;
  • Drafting: development of models and drawings of technical solutions (BIM/ CAD 3D model, 2D implantation drawings, Civil Works guide drawings, Site Plot Plans, isometrics, PID, etc).

The key competences of the “Plant Layout & Integration” Group are related to:

  • Design assessment of Small Modular Reactor (SMR), Generation III/III+ and Generation IV reactors;;
  • Engineering and Consulting services for Nuclear New Build projects (siting, licensing, design, layout, Owner requirements, Bid Invitation Specifications, EPC Contract Development, etc);
  • Design and construction of complex plant modifications and new facilities at operating Nuclear Power Plant units e.g. spent fuel storage facilities, waste management facilities, Long Term Operation and Post-Fukushima modifications, Containment Filter Venting System, new bunkerised facilities, etc;
  • Design and construction of miscellaneous complex facilities in the nuclear sector (e.g. D&D projects, proton therapy centers, research reactors);
  • Layout development and Drafting for:

Technical Integrator role on a project (sometimes called “Technical Coordinator”) mainly consists in ensuring the technical consistency of the project deliverables and the technical excellence of the solutions developed in line with the client expectations while respecting the budget and the planning. This responsibility is of course shared with the Project Manager and the Discipline Experts working on the project.

  • You act as a major technical interface between the Project Manager and the Discipline Experts ensuring the coordination and integration of multidisciplinary technical competences;
  • You are the technical interface for the client and you play a major role in the achievement of the key deliverables such as engineering, design studies, technical specifications, white book, etc;
  • You provide technical guidelines of the project for the disciplines involved. You introduce adequate hold points and design reviews within a project and perform technical review for ensuring the general consistency of project deliverables;
  • You anticipate problems and customer needs for the different disciplines; identifying and managing technical risks and non-conformities. You manage efficiently the technical interfaces between technical disciplines and contractual packages;

Senior Civil Works Site Engineer

 

 

to join our enthusiastic team in Doel.

You will address the technical follow-up of the civil works related to the different projects that are ongoing and will be realized in the frame of

  • Long Term Operations – namely the projects associated to the anticipated life time extension of Doel 4;
  • Decommissioning and Dismantling – namely both the new build and modifications associated to the final shutdown of Doel 1, 2 and 3;
  • Plant Operational Support – namely the civil works assistance we deliver to the operational power plants (e.g. from maintenance works for cooling towers or other important structures, to completely new build structures, as e.g. Spent Fuel Storage Facilities);

You will join the Site Team under the mentorship of the Site Lead.

 

Typical activities include:

  • interfacing between Tractebel’s back office, the Client and Contractors realizing the works;
  • inspecting the Contractors’ execution activities, verifying compliance with execution drawings and documents (erection methodology etc.);
  • verifying and monitoring of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) requirements;
  • management of the technical interfaces between Contractors;
  • management and follow up of main design modifications;
  • participation to regular meetings with the stakeholders: progress, challenges, interfaces, HSE, etc.;
  • drafting work orders and site orders, issuing notes on the execution and shortcomings, and checking the progress reports prepared by the Contractors;
  • continually exchanging information on developments in work, studies, etc.;

 

The successful candidate

  • Holds a Master degree in civil/structural engineering. Relevant professional experience in an engineering environment, including design assignments and erection follow-up, preferably in an industrial environment is an advantage;
  • Is fluent in Dutch and either French or English;
  • is a born team player

The working environment 

 

You will work as Project Manager for our department Buildings which is responsible for engineering and consultancy services related to the development and realization of Buildings, including Residential, Tertiary and Industrial Buildings, Sport Infrastructures and consultancy missions related to buildings. These projects cover feasibility, basic design, detailed design, technical assistance during construction and on-site construction follow-up. Our activity is mainly situated in Belgium, even though we have projects worldwide in specific market segments.

 

Your function

  • You lead, motivate and manage a project team of multidisciplinary engineers and draftsmen for your projects;
  • You are responsible for ensuring the respect of budget, the timing and the quality of our engineering services and the works on site. You will make sure that the projects assigned to you will be executed in accordance to our quality system and our H&S rules;
  • You are responsive and make the necessary decisions when it comes to MEP construction (HVAC, electrical systems, etc.)
  • You report progress for all your projects on a monthly basis;
  • You participate in the technical design of your projects (mainly in preliminary design);
  • You enhance an integrated design process by looking transversally over the different disciplines involved;
  • You prepare and submit tenders and contracts (assistance of our sales team);
  • You work together with external partners (such as architects, other design and engineering consultancies, subcontractors, contractors during the construction phase, etc.) in a constructive way;
  • Together with the client you are looking for the best solutions.

 

 

Your profile

  • You have a Master degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent;
  • You have a minimum of 10 years of experience with project management in MEP works;
  • You are rather a generalist than a specialist, with background in MEP or Architectural engineering;
  • The projects you worked on were preferably building projects with high environmental ambition;
  • You were ideally involved in all aspects and phases of your projects: competition, design, studies, tender, execution, management,…);
  • You have experience with competitive bidding (competitions): conceptual design, quick estimation of building cost, definition and negotiation of the fee, presentation to the client or authorities, etc.
  • You have experience in conducting multidisciplinary projects in Construction with multiple stakeholders, time and budget constraints;
  • You have and create good contacts with architects thanks to your communication skills;
  • You are familiar with project planning and management approaches and are project financials literate;
  • You are client oriented and flexible;
  • You are a team player;
  • You are Fluent in French and you have a professional level English.

Role:

 

As Renewables Trader in the RES Trading team we expect you to:

  • be able to perform pricing, develop/improve models and adapt hedging strategies for the Polish renewables market
  • assist in developing and monitoring performance measures  which will be instrumental to the expansion of our portfolio (cooperating with pricing, origination),
  • be Pnl driven, and respectful of your risk mandate,
  • be an excellent team player, within your own team and across others (Short term trading, pricing, origination, structuring, quants, IS, GMA…),
  • show a continuous drive to uncover profitable trading & hedging strategies ,
  • manage short term trading strategies across CWE markets (Day Ahead, Intraday, Curtailments),
  • assist in developing flexibility solutions to manage the intermittency of the portfolio in a cost-effective manner.

Hard skills:

  • Analytical and quantitative skills, combined with a hands-on approach,
  • Good knowledge of the Polish renewables power market,
  • Good knowledge of office tools as Excel as well as interest,
  • Strong understanding of information management tool and trading systems,
  • The capability and/or interest in code languages (Python etc),
  • A good understanding of accounting mechanisms (both industrial and trading), of market finance (hedging, derivatives, etc), of the power business and associated trading strategies are required,
  • The use of trading transaction systems will also be required.

Soft skills:

  • Assertive, inquisitive and stress resistant,
  • You also have a high level of integrity,
  • Well organized and pro-active,
  • Able to perform during specific reporting cycles with tight deadlines,

You have at least 2 years experiences in managing a renewables portfolio.
