About the Role

 

We have a 12 month Maternity Cover opportunity for a legal counsel within ENGIE UK, with a focus on the Renewables and Storengy businesses. You will be required to provide timely and commercial legal advice, to assist in the negotiation and drafting of commercial and contractual matters such as tenders, projects, construction contracts, supply chain negotiations, variations and on-going contractual and operational matters and to deal with risk management, governance and compliance.

 

Consideration will be given to part-time applicants with the ability to work 3/4 days a week. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, and progress their own matter negotiations and projects. In addition, this role will assist the Country GC & Ethics Officer with UK Ethics compliance and implementation of Group Ethics policies.

 

This is a Hybrid role assigned to our Leeds office where the successful candidate would be based two days a week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package and the chance to make a difference in the energy transition.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for legal support on a broad range of complex commercial outsource transactions, supporting the ENGIE UK business;
  • Providing commercial legal advice;
  • Assisting in the governance of transactions at local and group level;
  • Working closely with colleagues including throughout the Group and with customers;
  • Management of external legal resource on particular projects;
  • Providing advice to operational teams on appropriate strategies in relation to disputes that have not yet been formalised;
  • Energy industry experience would be useful, but not essential;
  • Involvement in developing and delivering training on various issues for colleagues across the business;
  • Ability to take ownership of, and progress, own files and projects; and,
  • Supporting ENGIE UK Ethics policies compliance.

 

Knowledge and skills:

  • Good knowledge of relevant areas of law including outsourcing,  construction , and commercial contract.  Knowledge of the energy industry preferred but not essential.
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to deal with risk management, governance and compliance.
  • Ability to manage a sizeable workload in a fast paced environment.
  • Comfortable with stakeholder management but also able to work with colleagues at all levels of the business
  • UK (or common law equivalent) qualified solicitor or barrister with ideally   6 years or greater,  PQE.  We will be flexible depending on the quality of experience.

 

Experience:

  • Experience of construction transactions and supply chain negotiations.
  • Strong commercial contracts lifecycle experience.
  • Experience in advising on pre-litigation contract disputes.
  • Experience in leading on complex transactions.
  • Some experience of energy projects preferred.
  • Experience of managing own workload.
