What You Can Expect
As our Estimator Advisor, you will be the primary cost estimation expert, resource for capital improvement projects for campus energy systems and new business development related to new partnerships with universities or commercial and industrial entities. These energy systems encompass the production and distribution of electricity, chilled water, heating hot water, and steam, along with the distribution of natural gas.
- For business development projects or acquisitions, this role will coordinate with the Major Projects team composed of contracts managers, project managers, engineering, and project management office.
- For projects at existing partnerships, this role will liaise with the other members of the Local Capital Projects Team including, but not limited to, Georgetown University in Washington, DC, Iowa University in Iowa City, IA and Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.
Every day you will be critical in supporting our Major Projects team by delivering accurate and comprehensive cost estimates to drive successful planning and execution.
You will report to the Vice President of Major Projects & Industrial Project Oversight and Support (IPOS).
What You’ll Bring
- You possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, technical discipline, construction management, or a related field
- You have a minimum of 7 years of experience in utility and power infrastructure projects
- You have knowledge of cost estimation methodologies, tools, and software like, RSMeans
- You can develop detailed budgetary and indicative cost estimates for utility and power generation projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and other project-related expenses. Support project management team during all phases of the project from conceptual design through handover to Operations
- You will develop and maintain cost estimate template to support business development and major capital project opportunities. Develop and maintain a template library, like contingency calculator, and cost reporting to build best in class cost management function
- You can develop, update, and maintain historical pricing data base and estimation tools to reflect current market conditions and industry standards
- You will review and incorporate historical data from estimates, cost data, indexes, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures. Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures
- You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and develop accurate cost projections
- You have experience analyzing project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates
- You will review general contractor pricing proposals for accuracy and gaps, and challenge assumptions and rates
- You will conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans to address potential cost overruns
- You can provide cost analysis and value engineering recommendations to optimize project budgets and enhance cost efficiency
- You will prepare and present cost estimation reports to the Vice President of Major Capital Projects & IPOS and other senior management
- You will assist in the preparation of bid proposals and contract negotiations by providing accurate cost data and supporting documentation
- You will stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to utility and power generation projects

- This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
- Must be available to travel domestically up to 20% of the time
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license

Compensation
Salary Range: $128,400 – $196,765 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
