1.  JOB DETAILS:

Position Title:

Trainee Engineer – I&C

Reports to:

Lead Engineer – Instrumentation and Control

Department:

2.  JOB PURPOSE:

  • Assist to manage all I&C maintenance activities associated with defect and planned maintenance programmes, through a team of site based engineers, technicians and at times by external contract agencies.

 

  • Assist in development of the short and long term I&C maintenance strategy for the plant and the development of a capable engineering, planning and I&C maintenance team to support that strategy.

 

  • Learn & assist in dya to day I&C maintenance activities, according to good utility practice, company rules and procedures, legal, contractual and other requirements

 

  • Respects the O&M agreement with the Owner and the Contractual Services Agreement with Suez Services Saudi.

 

  • Ensure that the plant meets availability, reliability, efficiency, generation and cost targets, safely and within the environmental, legal and contractual requirements.

 

  • Learn & Assist to establish the appropriate procedures and computerized I&C maintenance management processes as applicable to a prudent management regime.

 

  • Assists in coordinating I&C maintenance activities with finance and accounting, administration, HSE and operations departments

 

 

3.  KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Description

 

Safety at Work

  • Ensures a safe working environment for himself and the I&C Technicians whilst working on any equipment;
  • Obtains a Permit to Work for each job as necessitated by the PP11 Power Plant HSE Procedures put in place;
  • Ensures all necessary precautions are taken by himself, the I&C Technicians and Contractors whilst undertaking any jobs in PP11 Power Plant;
  • Ensures that all necessary tools are available for the safe working on equipment and that are used during performance on all jobs within the Plant;
  • Monitors the I&C Technicians and Contractors to ensure they follow the guidelines of Safe Work Practices as per Plant HSE Standards;
  • Points out any unsafe conditions to Management.

 

Responsibilities

  • Works under the guidance of Instrument Engineers to perform all kinds of I&C activities at power plant.
  • Perform all work order maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of plant equipment as directed.
  • Learn and Help Instrument Engineers to evaluate the current and future instrumentation needs.
  • Learn & Assist Instrument Engineers in Maintenance Task Planning and Execution.
  • Performs troubleshooting activities as necessary to determine failure conditions and rectifies any defects found;
  • Generates reports on equipment failure.
  • Performs Root Cause Analysis of failures.
  • Works with Plant Operations Personnel to resolve problems encountered with I&C equipment.
  • Assumes ownership of plant I&C equipment and strives to maintain them in the best possible condition.
  • Assist Instrument Engineers for outage planning and execution.
  • Learn & Assists the Instrument Engineers in planning and budget preparation processes.
  • Assist Instrument Engineers in Spares, Consumables and Tools management.
  • Comply with all established procedures and guidelines related with instrument engineering.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Lead Engineer/ Engineer from time to time.

 

 

 

4.  HEALTH & SAFETY:

 

  • The Job Holder will work in a controlled hazardous environment.

 

Work Levels and Conditions and Risks:

  • Work Level 5 (OSHA scale 1 to 6): the tasks that he performs as part of their daily work activities represent risks and are controlled by means of procedures, supervision, safety devices and HSE Teams in such a way that its non-observance that could lead to a serious accident of even death.

 

Exposure to Risks:

  • Traffic/automobile accidents, ergonomic problems and accidents;
  • Risks inherent to the job of the I&C engineer while performing inspections, site visits, operations and maintenance activities, etc.

 

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Hard hat/safety helmet;
  • Ear protection (plugs or ear muffs);
  • Safety glasses;
  • Safety shoes;
  • Dust mask;
  • Cotton coveralls;
  • Safety Gloves;
  • Cotton vest;
  • Respiratory mask.

 

 

Recommended HPE (Health Protection Equipment):

  • Ergonomic office equipment;

 

Medical Exams/Laboratory Exams before Taking the Position:

  • Complete medical physical examination;
  • Visual acuity examination.
  • Color blindness test
  • PFT (lung capacity)
  • Audiometric test

 

Recommended for persons older than 45 years:

  • Laboratory tests: complete blood biometrics, blood chemistry: 3 elements (glucose, urea and creatine) and a general exam of urine;
  • Electrocardiogram;
  • X-ray PA of thorax.

 

Medical Criteria for the Position:

  • High Blood Pressure: not to present a TA greater than 135/85 in case of present alteration and individual monitoring program;
  • Obesity: in case of obesity, implement a monitoring and reduction of weight program.

 

5.  JOB CONTEXT:

  • Dhuruma O&M company Ltd operates a combined cycle power facility with 1729 MW of power capacity. The company has two shareholders: Kahrabel FZE, with Head Office in Dubai and Aljomaih Energy & Water Company Limited, with Head Office in Riyadh.
  • Dhuruma O&M company Ltd performs services through an O&M agreement for the Owner of the power facility: Dhuruma Electricity Company.
  • The project is a Greenfield IPP with a 20 year PPA with single off-taker (SEC) on BOO basis.
  • The Job Holder will be based at Dhuruma power plant (PP11), 125 km West of Riyadh;
  • The Job Holder works in the Power Plant under the supervision of the Head of I&C;
  • The Job Holder works closely with the Instrument Technicians to ensure the Plant routines are carried out efficiently and to high quality standards;
  • The Job Holder is required to understand and promptly act upon oral operational instructions, respond effectively in pressure situations, make quick decisions in the event of breakdown or failure to safeguard the plant, manage stress, assess and change operational parameters with minimal supervision, coordinate and follow up on maintenance activities, ensuring high levels of safety and compliance with procedures.

8.  QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • An accredited Engineering degree
  • Demonstrated competence at engineering level with adequate education and training supported

 

 

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a technical field would be an advantage
  • Leading and managing people experience would be an advantage.
  • Use of safety systems experience would be an advantage.
  • Engineering concepts and principles
