About the team

 

Laborelec’s Solar Team, part of the Renewables & Urban Department, performs technical consulting services for the ENGIE Group and external clients. The team has a broad range of activities, including:

  • Defining the research roadmap and leading research programs for ENGIE; this includes managing and monitoring advanced solar outdoor testing infrastructures in Linkebeek and in Northern Chile.
  • Testing and implementing innovative technologies to improve the design, operation and maintenance of solar farms and fleets.
  • Being a service provider for solar developers and operators by developing and implementing operational excellence strategies for solar assets and fleets, including digital tools, on-site inspection techniques, on-site measurement campaigns and integration of hardware solutions.
  • Developing solutions to increase the valorization of solar farms, including hybrid projects with storage and ancillary services.
  • Evaluating new emerging technologies for solar energy.

These projects are often multidisciplinary and so are executed with strong interaction between multiple teams within Laborelec.

 

 

 

What you’ll be doing

 

Your responsibilities as Solar Project Engineer

 

This role calls for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person with a passion for changing things and creating positive impact through technology, applied Research & Development and hands-on experience. Someone able to work well independently as well as part of a team, bringing strong interest in renewable energy and wind turbine technology specifically.

 

As a Solar Project Engineer, you will use your energy and talents to support the growing portfolio of R&I projects and operational activities of our Solar Lab, covering the following activities:

  • You lead the execution of performance measurement campaigns of solar assets and pilots including preparation of sensor architecture, procurement of sensors, configuration and calibration of sensors, installation, operation and maintenance of the complete measurement setup and analysis.
  • You lead on-site measurement campaigns and inspections.
  • You participate in the performance analysis of individual solar photovoltaics assets, mostly large-scale assets of hundreds of MW and occasionally those of industrial-size and even fleets of residential assets.
  • You lead and/or participate in the execution of Root-Cause-Analyses of performance issues, inverter failures, tracker failures, power plant control failures, etc. often involving on-site fact finding missions and laboratory works in collaboration with electrical equipment experts.
  • You take the lead in implementing performance improvement solutions where you are involved in the complete project cycle from design to implementation and monitoring.
  • You rely on your own expertise as well as coordinate transversally with experts within the Renewables & Urban Department and other departments.

  • Have proven experience in field interventions and troubleshooting on photovoltaic assets, including SCADA systems, data-logging, communication protocols, and user-interfaces for monitoring or control.
  • Have proven experience in the design, installation and operation of photovoltaics measurement equipment.
  • Have experience in solar technology testing in outdoor conditions.
  • Have programming skills.
  • Communicate fluently, ideally in English plus in Spanish to ensure fluid communication with field operators in Latin America in coordination with our branch office in Chile.
  • Show a strong sense of self-motivation and organizational skill.
