Job Purpose/Mission
As part of the ENGIE Mozambique management team, the Head of Mini Grids and SBS Mozambique will be responsible for the overall strategic planning, financial management, and operational activities related to the Mini Grid activity in Mozambique. He or she will supervise the construction of new Mini Grid sites, technical operations, sales, credit, and stakeholder relations related to the Mini Grid activities. The head of Mini Grids has P&L responsibility for the Mini Grids and SBS activities in Mozambique. He / She will also contribute to the overall strategy and leadership of the Mini Grids operations.
The Head of Mini Grids and SBS will primarily be responsible for managing construction, operation, and maintenance of Mini Grids, ensuring health and safety is protected on all sites, and implementing initiatives to stimulate power demand and grow revenues at the Mini Grid sites.
Responsibilities
Strategy, planning, and execution: Develop and execute a strategy to make Mini Grids and SBS in Mozambique a success.
Set, curate, and communicate the vision for Mini Grids and SBS in Mozambique.
Lead and manage design and electrical engineering for solar projects throughout the lead creation and execution stages
Configure PV systems based on site conditions and customers’ needs and expectations.
Manage electrical work such as installation and maintenance of solar energy systems.
Schedule, coordinate, and inspect electrical installations and maintenance activities.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure the optimal performance of solar energy systems.
Train and support installation and maintenance technicians, promoting best practices, quality assurance checks, and continuous improvement.
Lead, iterate, support, and grow all Mini Grids and SBS activities in Mozambique.
Goal, target, and incentive setting: Ensure the team has clear goals, targets, and incentives to support growth in key areas.
Construction, operations, and maintenance of mini grid sites
Directly managing the construction of new mini grids across the country with adherence to health and safety, time, and budget.
Responsible for ensuring the commissioned sites are well managed, efficient, and well-maintained.
Oversee all operations on the mini grid sites.
Licensing and Regulation: Ensure that all regulatory approvals and applicable licenses are in place for EEA to conduct its business activities.
HSE
Responsible and accountable for Health, Safety, and Environment across all the Mini Grids sites.
Ensure all installation and maintenance activities comply with HSE regulations and company policies.
Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards
Promote a culture of safety within the team, ensuring all team members are aware of and adhere to HSE protocols.
Develop and implement HSE training programs for the team.
Investigate and report any HSE incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Team supervision
Supervise and build a mission-aligned, high-performing, and passionate mini grid team across the country.
Ensuring that EEA has the talent and skills we need to achieve our ambitious targets.
Recruitment and retention of top talent, training and mentorship, building mini grid knowledge and capacity within the team, promoting EEA values, and proactively addressing underperformance.
Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, encouraging innovation and high performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution and customer satisfaction.
Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and meetings.
Commercial and financial management
Oversee Mini Grids and SBS Mozambique’s financial performance at the highest level by providing support and strategic guidance to the finance team and departments to properly budget, forecast, and review expenses and revenues.
Create and develop the commercial activities in line with the investment committee-approved business plan.
Responsible for meeting revenue targets and for the mini-grid and SBS P&L.
Global best practices:
Collaborate with other Mini Grids and SBS teams & EEA Global team to leverage best practices, implement best practices from abroad, and brainstorm solutions to common challenges.
Responsible for ensuring compliance by all Mini Grid teams with EEA’s Health and Safety requirements.
Knowledge and skills
Experience:
Must have strong project management experience, particularly experience managing construction projects and Health and Safety regulations.
At least 5 years of leadership experience; at least 2 of which are in a multi-functional organization with large teams.
Ability to read, interpret, and take relevant and nimble action on P&L and financial statements.
Experience in cultivating strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, whether in a boardroom or a customer’s off-grid home.
Excellent judgement and ability to work autonomously with a team in pursuit of innovative and aggressive stretch goals.
Technical knowledge of solar energy systems and installation processes.
Registered & Certified with the DNE (Direcção Nacional de Energia) (mandatory).
Basic understanding of Health & Safety Requirements while dealing with High Voltage installations
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or a related field.
An MBA or master’s degree will be an added advantage.
Language(s):
Portuguese required.
English required.
