Substation Electrician

What You Can Expect

Our Substation Electrician, based at the University of Iowa campus, is responsible for installation, operation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repairs of electric utility substation, distribution and production plant electrical equipment including but not limited to medium voltage switchgear, protection and control systems, battery systems, instrumentation, motor starters and controls.

Daily, you will install, operate, troubleshoot, calibrate and maintain utility electrical systems including circuit breakers, switchgear, protection and control systems, battery systems, instrumentation, motor starters and controls conduit, cable and wiring systems up through 15kV.  As an experienced Substation Electrician, you will determine the jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required. You will procure materials, coordinate outages, complete work and place systems back into service as well as interpret and maintain wiring diagrams, schematics, system logs, drawings and documentation on utility systems. You will need to assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of program logic controller (PLC) based auxiliary systems,  design and implement control system changes or new control schemes and advises utility staff of changes and install and configure new modules, control stations, firmware and software revisions for the utility computer-based control systems. You monitor system performance, using system interfaces, and make recommendations for system improvements. You provide functional supervision including training and instructions to other staff.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • This role requires a minimum educational level of a High school diploma / GED or equivalent
  • An Iowa Class A or B Journeyman’s or Master Electrician License
  • A minimum of two (2) years at a Journeyman level in utility systems, industrial, process or power plants
  • Expertise in electric Motor controls, station power systems, and electronic control systems
  • Knowledgeable of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems, CAD systems and their associated database management systems
  • Ability to use tools and industry standard methods of troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and electronic utility equipment
  • Expertise in the principles, methods, and techniques used in the electrical, instrumentation and control trades including  the principles of electronics
  • Practice of safety  precautions and  mitigate trade occupational hazards while working in confined spaces, aerial or elevated locations, extreme temperatures, excavations, and other environmental caused conditions
  • Experience applying knowledge of electrical codes, utility standards, and safety programs as governed by rules, regulations and guidelines of local, state, and national electrical and safety codes, equipment manufacturers and others
  • Read and understand blueprints, schematics, control system drawings and repair manuals
  • Calibration of utility instrumentation and the  installation and configuration of control system hardware and software
  • Maintain records and system documentation,  analyze system problems, then recommend and implement system changes

  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; this role requires operating ENGIE owned vehicles and equipment

  • Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas, pipes and the like) as required
  • Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses
  • This position consist of 50% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range:  $32.79 – $48.76 USD hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate. Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

    • Elaborare soluții de inginerie pentru modificările de proiect ale sistemelor existente;
    • Coordonare activități de inginerie subcontractate cu organizațiile externe și avizarea lucrărilor acestora;
    • Bugetare execuție sisteme și supunerea spre aprobarea acestora șefului ierarhic;
    • Proiectare sisteme în limitele cerințelor de proiectare, codurilor, standardelor, autorizațiilor sau altor restricții impuse de legislația în vigoare;

Experiență, calificări, cunoștințe și abilități:

  • Studii tehnice superioare de lungă durata finalizate, de preferat în domeniul ingineriei;

As our Electrical Instrument Technician II, at The Ohio State University, in Columbus, OH, you will be responsible for the implementation, overall maintenance and troubleshooting of the campus wide energy metering and control system and you will report to the Electrical Instrument and Controls Supervisor and Electronics Systems Coordinator.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • You have a high school diploma

  • You need a minimum three (3) years’ experience, in instrumentation and controls
  • You can configure, troubleshoot, calibrate and repair issues with steam, chilled water, natural gas, electric and hot water instrumentation (analytical, pressure, differential pressure and temperature transmitters and RTD’s, steam meters, magnetic flow meters & ultrasonic flow meters)
  • You have experience with Modbus RTU and TCP, and can install and troubleshoot network communication equipment (Serial to Ethernet converters, Ethernet switches)
  • You will install, maintain and repair sensing lines, valves and fittings
  • You will ensure all new instrumentation is installed according to plans and specifications
  • You will maintain detailed maintenance and calibration records; work to fill calibration reports, work orders, update wiring schematics and update inventory

The Project Management, Advisor is also responsible for managing all cost components throughout project implementation, maintaining precise budget records, and promptly notifying supervisors of any necessary adjustments. Additionally, they work alongside the construction manager to establish a comprehensive project schedule with regular progress milestones, ensuring timely completion. Alongside these responsibilities, they actively engage with Accounting to facilitate monthly customer invoicing and address any payment delays or issues proactively. Finally, they ensure compliance with local labor regulations and oversee the timely completion of monitoring set-up packages and final job close-out information.

 

This position can sit in Oakland, San Jose, or Sacramento, CA and will report to the Director of Project Management.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

What You Can Expect

Our intern located at the University of Iowa campus in Iowa city will be learning how to safely treat drinking water at our Grade IV Water Treatment facility where we treat both surface and ground sourced water. The intern will learn to  perform clarification and lime softening methods and will  also utilize reverse osmosis and activated carbon treatment processes. The minimum certification required to independently operate the University of Iowa Water Plant is a Class II Water Operator Certification. The student employment program at the Water Plant will be aimed toward helping students achieve a Water Operator Certification.  As part of your training  you will learn how to properly test water, and to understand the results.  You will also learn the regulatory basis for water quality requirements, and effluent / by-product disposal requirements.

 

Every Day you will learn new tasks in our treatment process. You will take samples and learn to adjust chemicals (automated) based on  the chemical properties of the water. You will be monitoring SCADA screens and learning how the plant is supposed to operate. As well as troubleshooting equipment, while conducting walk-throughs of the plant checking on equipment and logging  testing results and findings from making your rounds.

 

We are very flexible during the school year you can come in and train during any of our operating shifts. to gain hours and operational experience.  You will work rotating shifts on assigned weekends ( we operate three shifts).
