Report on the first two stages of the ENGIE Kite Tour!

The ENGIE Kite Tour makes its return to the French coasts for its 15th edition!

 

We are kicking off in June this year in Fréjus followed by Lorient. We will then be in Le Touquet and then La Grande-Motte in September.

To be able to kite surf, we need two key things – two things that allude to the Group's business: wind and sun. To harness these renewable energies and leverage the Group's Impact for positive technology policy, ENGIE sets up a solar tent in each one of the villages on the Tour. These tents are covered with Héliatech soft films so that competitors can use solar power to charge up their mobile phones on the beach.

Before the final stages this September when we will find out who the winners are, let's look back at the first two stages of this year’s Tour.

For its first stage, the ENGIE Kite Tour pulled into Fréjus from 31 May to 2 June. It was sunny, and the mistral wind was blowing… and the kite surfers who will be representing France were there: Lauriane NOLOT and Axel MAZELLA.  More than 110 competitors – professionals and amateurs alike – including 30 or so young people, all took part in the competitions.

On Friday, an event was organised involving six classes from primary schools in Fréjus. An event-packed programme and a day filled with smiles. Around 200 children learned about eco-friendly behaviour as part of the “J’Apprends l’Energie” (I'm learning about energy) programme; they also got to find out about marine biodiversity with the “Fondation de la Mer”; and “Nous Les ambitieuses” presented the “Préservons nos ressources” (let's conserve our resources) writing and drawing competition; and finally, they got to talk to Team ENGIE's two kite surfers: Axel MAZELLA and Alex CAIZERGUES.

For its second stage, the ENGIE Kite Tour stopped off in Lorient from 21 to 23 June. There was a good wind over the first couple of days – competitors were able to use kitefoils and wingfoils, as well as twin-tip and directional boards. Around a hundred people were there to enjoy time both in and around the water. The ENGIE Kite Tour has always been about sharing and having fun in a friendly atmosphere!
