By Engie - 05 June 2024 - 10:23

stamp_societal_impact_V2Because we place people at the heart of our thinking, we support projects that aim to position each and everyone, particularly women and the younger generations, as decisive players in the energy transition. We contribute to a more resilient and inclusive society by protecting the most vulnerable, promoting sport and its values, raising awareness and educating new generations on environmental and energy challenges, and promoting impactful entrepreneurship.

We do this by way of several concrete undertakings:

Learning about energy

« J’apprends l’Énergie » is a free digital educational program created and developed by ENGIE under agreement with the French Ministry of National Education and Youth, in order to raise young people's awareness of the different sources of energy and environmental issues and to job orient them in the energy sector.

In parallel with the website and the resources available online, workshops have been organized throughout France to invite teachers and students from primary through high school to explore the world of energy.

Lighting up the future of young women

Thanks to the sponsorship system set up by Capital Filles, female ENGIE employees provide support to young women from working-class backgrounds and rural areas in high school and first year of university in their choice of career path while introducing them to scientific, technological and industrial fields. The association also intervenes as of high school to raise awareness of gender stereotypes.

When the passion of mentors accelerates careers in STEM

ENGIE is a partner of the « Elles bougent ! » ("Women on the move!") association, the aim of which is to attract high school girls and young women in university to scientific, technical, technological and engineering courses and careers, thanks to the interventions of female mentors.

Today, at ENGIE, more than 180 sponsors are mobilized to meet these students to share and transmit the passion of their profession, and to guide them on their journey. These exchanges aim to boost young women’s confidence in their skills and break down barriers to strengthen gender diversity in technology and industrial companies.

Giving young people the power to imagine the energy of the future

As a partner of Science Factor, ENGIE rewards the winners of this citizen innovation competition for middle and high school students, in the course of which the teams, led by a girl, develop a scientific or technical project with a positive impact. This annual competition involving around 20,000 teenagers highlights the importance of equal participation between girls and boys in the field of innovation.

The ENGIE Energy Prize rewards the solution that is most energy-efficient or most optimized in terms of energy production. The goal is to support them for a year, with a scientific committee, to develop their projects in the field of green energy.

Math bosses

ENGIE supports the Jeux Mathématiques, or mathematical games, an international championship that attracts 500 young people from 15 countries for the final. Thanks to ENGIE, two innovations were introduced in 2024: a competition for high school students in diverse and gender-equal teams, as well as a "math and girls" event called the Coupe de France des lycéennes (French high school girls cup). It focuses particularly on funding travel and accommodation for the participants living furthest away, in particular girls aged 14 to 16.

Towards a gender-balanced digital sector

Only 19% of people working in the field of digital technology are women. To address this imbalance, since 2020 ENGIE has been a partner of TechPourToutes, an event organized by École 42 to encourage women to enter tech.
